SEC was terrible?? They were 5-2 in bowl games and played well during the season against OOC BCS opponents.
The were the best conference from top to bottom as usual.
Them winning bowl games doesn't mean much to me.The bowl games aren't evenly matched sometimes try again.
Because clearly bowl games mean nothing...smdh. As far as the games not being evenly matched, generally favors other conferences. Most SEC bowl games are against higher seeded teams from other conferences.
2011 bowl matchups with conference seedings in ()
Miss. St. (8) vs WF (4) = win
Vandy (9) vs Cincy (2) = loss
AU (6) vs UVA (3) = win
USCe (5) vs Neb (5) = win
UGA (3) vs Mich St. (2) = loss
UF (7) vs Ohio St (7) = win
Arky (4) vs KSU (2) = win
I'm always going to be biased when it comes to the U of A. If I could somehow be impartial, I could see the potential for a couple losses. LSU is obviously a hell of an assignment in their house. I've personally even predicted UT to be better than the media predicts, but I just don't see that one. AU isn't going to beat Bama. The stretch after the bye week would be tough on anyone. All that said, I just think this is one of the better teams in the last few years for Bama. The offense, IMO, will be a lot better, primarily because of the combined talent/experience of the OLine, but also because without Trent we'll be more likely to mix it up a lot with a QB and WR's that I think are much better than advertised. The D will NOT be as good as last year, but it will be top 5 nationally. Team speed will be better this year. I can't see 9-3, but it's very possible that 10-2 happens. In most years, you could take the top 5 teams, in terms of talent, put the names in a hat, and draw them out. I say that because we can't predict chemistry, injuries, etc. But if you ask me, Bama goes 13-0 and faces USC in the national championship game.
Still doesn't prove that the SEC didn't suck last year aside from UF and LSU.The offenses in your conference were trash last year aside from 3 or 4 teams.Come on man.Like I said,Bama had a stout defense and I'm perfectly fine with them winning the game but calm down.
Wow you're a tool. SEC offenses averaged more OOC vs bcs teams than in conference, so that is a stupid theory and quite unfactual.
The butthurt is strong with you.....feelsgoodman
you must not watch college football.
Bama & LSU were clearly the best two teams in 2011 . Okie State would have gotten ragdolled by either of them .
most logical people laid that pipe dream down after LSU (managed to cross midfield only once) got mugged in Nawlins'.
The '11 Bama defense is the best I've ever seen. The #s back it up. Clemson gave up more defensive TDs in their bowl game did Bama did all season.
And anybody who legitimately thinks OSU deserved to be in the game over Bama is either (a) not being honest with themselves, (b) a Bama hater/OSU fan, or (c) knows nothing about football. Alabama and LSU both would have beaten OSU by 20+.
no way that team loses 3 games this year : 1 game maybe to LSU at LSU at night , dont see anyone else sneaking up on them unless Ark plays lights out
No point in arguing with this trojanglory guy. His butthurt over the dominance of the SEC clearly runs deep. Last years Bama D is at least in the convo for best D of the modern era. The numbers posted ITT back it up.
Trojanglory, why don't you post an argument supporting the Ds you think have been better and back it up with numbers instead of saying "that can't be true because the SEC dominance has me butthurt beyond repair"?
I know that everyone is on the Tennessee bandwagon, but Bama is not going to lose to the Vols.
I agree. I think Tennessee has a chance to be much better this year, but they just don't have it up front on either side for teams like Bama or LSU in the SEC. They don't play LSU this year and I could see them going 9-3 if everything works out for them. They could have an outside chance of picking off UGA or South Carolina, but Miss St and Florida will also be tough for them as well. 7-5 or 8-4 is probably more likely for them.
As far as Bama goes, I would say the order of the games in which they could lose are:
all before Tennessee.
hopefully no one is saying anything like that - just dont see UT being able to stay with Alabama this year
What does the SEC's dominance have to do with Bama not having the best defense of the modern era? When did I ever allude to not liking the SEC?I've been talking specifically to Bama fans so where is this SEC stuff coming from anyway?
Provide an argument for a better defense and back it up with facts. Otherwise, you are just wanting to be argumentative without bringing anything to the discussion.
Have you read your responses in this thread? "SEC was weak and the offenses were terrible, blah, blah". There is no doubt you have a slanted view of the SEC because your sweet little Trojans are no longer the media darlings.
2011 LSU played 5 teams ranked in the top 50 of total offense.3rd ranked Oregon,17th ranked WVU,27th ranked UGA,28th ranked Arkansas and 30th Bama.
LSU played 5 teams ranked in the top 50 of points per game.3rd ranked Oregon,13th ranked WVU,15th ranked Arkansas,20th ranked Bama and 33rd ranked UGA.
LSU gave up 11 points per game.Allowing 261 yards per game.
2011 Bama played one team ranked in the top 50 of total offense last year and that was 28th ranked Arkansas.
Bama played 2 teams ranked in the top 50 of point's per game.15th ranked Arkansas and 17th ranked LSU.
Bama gave up 8 points per game.Allowing 183 yards a game.
2008 USC played five teams ranked in the top 50 of total offense.8th ranked Oregon,15th ranked PSU,28th ranked Oregon State,31st ranked Arizona and 42nd ranked Cal.
USC played 6 teams ranked in the top 50 of point's per game.7th ranked Oregon,11th ranked PSU,16th ranked Arizona,27th ranked Cal,32 ranked Oregon State and 45th ranked Ohio State.
USC gave up 9 points per game.Allowing 221 yards a game.
I omitted yards per game because they were virtually the same as total yards.I couldn't find the stats for 01 Miami or the FSU/Nebraska teams either. The stats don't go back that far for some reason.I'll have to keep looking after work.Have at it though.
The SEC does have weak offenses and that's a known fact.Doesn't mean I'm butt hurt gtfoh.Would you be butt hurt if you said most defenses in the Pac-12 suck?A Bama fan brought up the whole greatest defense of the modern era thing and that's when I said the SEC was not that good last year. Before that comment I was mainly talking about UM deserving a rematch just like Bama did.I think you should reread the ENTIRE thread again my friend.
So, you think LSU's D last year was on par against Bama's? Wow, grasping for straws my friend.
The teams you mentioned are all IN THE DEBATE, as is the 2011 Bama D. That was my point from the beginning, they are definitely in the discussion.
Since you brought up the 2008 USC team, which had a great defense, I did about the best comparison that I could come up with. I figured how much each team held the opponent under their PPG and YPG.
In 2008 USC held teams 17.2 points under their average and 120.96 yard under their average per game.
In 2011 Alabama held teams 18.1 points below their average and their opponents averaged 172.06 yards per game less than their average.
No team that Alabama played came within 8.3 points of their average or 91.38 yards of their average in 2011, where 2 teams came within 4 points of their average against USC in 2008 and 5 teams were within 67.08 yards of their average with one team having more yards than they averaged.
Give me some time and I will add LSU's numbers from last year as well.

LSU's numbers in 2011 were 16.8 points below their opponent's average and 103.99 yards below their average.
Don't bring facts and crap to this thread.
Great research. That settles the 2011 bama D versus USC 08 debate. Be prepared for the "nuh uh! that's not true because i don't like bama or the sec" defense.
