Anyone else hate watching the first half? Like it's nothing but a complete waste of time?
That would make the first half of any other sport irrelevant too.
I watch entire Michigan games. I can't remember the last time I watched an NBA game.
Not in football. You can pretty much tell from the first few drives who is going to be the aggressor. In our case, it's all about wearing the other team down by running the football. It sets up our entire 2nd half. Then there are halftime adjustments that make all the difference. In basketball, it's all about runs and who gets hot. It's like playing two different games with the first one not counting at all.
The game this Saturday can't come soon enough.
I know! I am so nervous though. It'll be so tough to win in Assembly Hall.
The first half still matters though
Fouls, maybe? I don't know, being up by 10 really doesn't make much of a difference.
Yeah, I'm nervous too. And not just about Indiana but about this brutal 4 games stretch. These next four games could be the difference in obtaining a Big Ten championship and a #1 seed.
Does being up 10 in football at the half really matter?
If we all had to watch Alabama basketball, I'm sure most of us would feel the same way.
You make adjustments in any sports. Basketball's different since there is a limited time of possession, so you can collapse or come back easily.
Football is more about physicality. Or at least on our team it is. If we ran the ball and controlled the clock, then a 10 point lead going into halftime is huge. You better have a Heisman QB to come back from something like that. If we can run the football in the first half, the game is usually over.
If the best basketball team in the country has a 10 point lead at half, they most likely aren't going to lose. 10 points in basketball also isn't a huge amount though considering how many possessions each team gets. The first half definitely is important though and doesn't mean nothing. Teams make adjustments in all sports and if one team adjusts really well whether it be basketball or football, they will come back.
We were up at halftime by about 10, now we are losing. I'm telling you, the first half doesn't matter in basketball.
You were up 7 against a team with the same record as you and now its tied. 7 in basketball is not a lot especially when you are playing a team that is at the same level as you. Just because Bama football which is the best team in the nation can hold a lead at halftime and Bama basketball which is average can't doesn't mean that the first half in football matters and in basketball it doesn't.
Yeah, comparing the best team in one respective sport to an average one in another is pretty bad. Teams like Michigan, Kansas, Indiana take advantage of the 1st half and don't blow leads. It's what good teams do in any sport.
First half? Heck, my motto is it doesn't matter till the 4th quarter.
Dumb sport. I've completely lost interest in it unless my college team is playing (we suck).

Like that makes any difference. But fine, for 5 teams the first half matters. For the 100's of others, the first half doesn't have any bearing on the outcome of the game. All you need to play is the last 3-5 minutes.
Ridiculous. Each component of the game matters in the final score in any sport, I guess in baseball the home team should only play the bottom of the ninth.
No, it's spot on. Basketball is a pointless sport to watch outside of the last 3-5 minutes. Baseball is so bad I don't know anyone who can watch a regular season game. But they play 180 games in baseball so you can go on a 30 game losing streak and still make the playoffs. lol.
You boys are gonna get smashed
It's not pointless, you just don't like the sport and root for a crappy team.
You just don't get it.
Yup, felt this way my whole life
Probably your best thread ever, congrats... you made it
fsufsu said... I've got about 10 great stories on Lane but all you need to know is he will never be a loser, that's for sure.
Bama up by 12 at halftime....now we are going to lose by 15. Told you guys, the first half is worthless in this game.
