Now the third highest paid coach in the big. Gotta keep this man happy.
Gotta keep him extra happy. There can't be too many other coaches who would a) be willing to even coach at PSU now and b) have the talent to continue recruiting (and hopefully playing) at such a high clip even with the sanctions.
throw him all the money he wants, but for gods sake, dont throw him any defenseless kids
He's the second best coach in the Big Ten, yet only make the the third most money. Good deal Penn State.

Dude, all of those responsible are gone.
Lulz at butthurt Michigan fans with the downvote for you. I got yo back tho
Damn you are a moron.
If now were January 2012 I'd agree with everything you said.
Meyer4Prez "This is wut happens when ur team site analyst are huge homers glad Bill K+Alex G keep it real instead of getting our hopes up."
Out of curiosity, why don't you agree with it now? The sanctions haven't really started to take their toll on PSU, so the product on the field hasn't been really substantially affected yet. We'll see what happens over the coming years, but I can't imagine too many high-profile coaches would sign up for what could potentially be an unmitigated trainwreck with a couple of inopportune injuries.
Played with 67 scholarships last year, push there. Bowl ban will be halfway done (assuming a new coach would come in this offseason).Recruiting has gotten easier telling a kid you get this many bowl games and possibly another if they redshirt (assuming they even care about bowl games). No damning news during the course of the regular season/recruiting season. Wont have Emmert spewing sanctions this July and guys jump ship. Recruits know what they are signing up for when they decide to commit up front. Freeh Agency will be over. Guys that you will count can't leave for another school ala Silas Redd, Justin Brown. And most importantly BOB has proven what we all know that even with our hands tied we can still get it done. University, academics, facilities, fanbase sell themselves in spite of "crippling sanctions." BOB used to do it on Sundays with 53 guys im sure he can manage with 65. So yeah, now or Jan 14' (when a new coach would come) is better than Jan 12'.
I guess we just see it differently. Keep in mind, I'm complimenting BOB here, it just seems like a situation that many people would pass on.
I certainly wish you guys well, but I gotta agree with CMXI here. The real toll is paid when your first 2 years of reduced scholarships represent your jr/sr classes. With the way kids come ready to play earlier these days, maybe soph/jr. It affects everything. Even if you could assemble 44 great starters and a handfull of serviceable backups, you don't get much practice fodder for them. Walk-ons, sure, but quality practice dummies, no. Like I said, I really do wish you well, but it's going to get worse before it gets better, and it won't be over soon. Apologize in advance about the picture...
The sanctions will hurt us and all PSU fans really believe that. Its just isn't going to be to the extent most people thought. If O'Brien sticks around through the sanctions we will be more than fine. We still will probably win 7-8 games through the sanction years.
I mean, no offense, but I'm sure USC fans thought that they'd weather the storm too, and they had years for Pete Carroll to prepare for sanctions. Even with that, they were still lucky to go 7-6 last year. All it takes is one or two injuries and suddenly you might not even have a QB to play. Remember what happened to Maryland last year?
If an unimaginable trainwreck is 7 wins I'll take it.
Well, Maryland went 4-8 last year with their rash of QB injuries, so I'm thinking much worse than USC, given that USC had an extra 10 scholarships to work with beyond what PSU does and that still happened.
When you lose 4 qbs for the season in the same year you can have 165 schollies and it wouldn't matter.
Yeah, but I'm just saying - PSU doesn't have 4 capable QBs to lose. It remains to be seen whether they even have one capable QB to lose this season.
A lot of USC's trouble came on the DL, but they were still winning games with a high-flying offense that only scored under 24 once - until Barkley got injured, then the offense didn't score more than 13 for the rest of the year and they didn't win another game. Lack of schollies can ground a team in a lot more ways than one.
Again, I guess we just see things differently. I'd be a pessimist in this situation, and I think it's very, very optimistic to assume that PSU can stick it out for 7-8 wins/year for the remainder of their time on sanctions. You clearly think differently, and that's perfectly fine. FWIW, I'm rooting for PSU to win every game except the Michigan game.
Maybe so. We've been there before and it was rough. Then again, we had the succession of clowns named Mike running things ... with a Fran on the side.
As long as BOB stays away from strip clubs, he can at least avoid one of the more embarrassing incidents of the succession of clowns named Mike.
Unfortunately, he was probably the least embarrassing Mike.
I hope PSU does well to spite the NCAA, but with the scholly reductions that are going to hit really hard in the next 2-3 years, I just don't see how.
He deserves every penny of it. Considering what he accomplished in his first year even with everything negative that was going on is pretty impressive IMO. He's gonna continue to get that program in the right direction and will be winning even more games in the future.
"Give him six" "We don't give a damn about the whole state of Alabama" "Grit N Grind"
Going to be tough to keep him from the NFL if he continues to coach well. Hope he stays though.
Difference between USC and PSU is Bill O'Brien vs Lane Kiffin and we win that in a landslide.
If Hack pans out, we'll survive. 8 wins a year is the goal.
