I saw a list on the internet about best college towns. Got me thinking about my favorite college towns (or big cities w/ major universities) that I've visited. What's your top 10? Here's mine:
1. Auburn, AL (I'm biased)
2. Oxford, MS
3. Austin, TX
4. Baton Rouge, LA
5. Athens, GA
6. Nashville, TN
7. Stillwater, OK
8. Tempe, AZ
9. Knoxville, TN
10. Columbia, SC
99. College Station, TX (it sucks)
5- Charleston, South Carolina
6- UNC at Wilmington
7- UVA ( aside from the jerks that go there )
8- South Carolina was cool but was only there for one night
That is all i can think of
The two worst by far were Maryland and VT, just terrible places
fsufsu said... I've got about 10 great stories on Lane but all you need to know is he will never be a loser, that's for sure.
I am biased, but Tallahassee is the shit if you're between 18-30.
Austin isn't a college town... are you stupid? Oh.. I see you are a Texas fan
I'd say Tempe is # 1. If you have never been to Tempe on a game weekend, then make plans for next season. Tempe is awesome without a game but it's even more fun when there is a game going on. Great college town.
Honorable Mention: Nashville, Athens
Austin is a city, a city of liberal hippies. Just because it houses a college doesn't make it a "college town."
By that logic then Fort Worth is a college town because it has TCU and Dallas is a college town because of SMU.
Please see my original post. I made sure to put "(or big cities w/ major universities)." Actually, I'm not a Texas fan. I grew up in Texas and went to Auburn. I root for Texas over aTm, however, b/c I don't believe in cults.
If it makes you feel better, I'll take Austin out. Congrats, now College Station ranks number 98 on my list of true college towns.
Yea. If this is going to be about college "towns" then big cities shouldn't be mentioned. I would even have to say Tallahassee classifies as a big city as compared to small towns like Auburn or Oxford.
Oh no he didn't
My completely unbiased opinion is that Ann Arbor, MI is the greatest place on Earth.

I had a great time in Lincoln NE. Lots of good bars, it was hopping the friday night before the game.
Fayetteville was fun but mainly because of the culture shock.
#1,000: Pullman Wash, maybe Corvallis. I got shot at there. South Bend is an armpit too.
Looks like another perfect day.
Oxford is one of the tops for sure
Auburn is a terrible college town. Only like 3 bars and the town is crap. The campus has all mismatched buildings...not a great college town.
Tuscaloosa has a great campus and a couple bars on the Strip right off campus, then a mile away there are another dozen bars downtown.
Oxford, MS and Athens, GA take the cake.
How people can consider Nashville a college town is beyond me. It's a major metropolitan.
College towns center around the college.
both are okay but not in same league with Oxford , pepperdine , Athens , Tempe , South Bend and maybe Nashville
south bend? Do they even have girls at Notre Dame?
As in the Pepperdine University in Malibu? If so,
My unbiased view... I think alot of people are confusing college cities w/ college towns. Yes, Tempe is awesome, but it doesn't thrive on the University alone. Contrary to many Bama fans, I think AU has a cool set up for their University in terms of a college "town". I don't think FSU should be on the list. It has a really cool campus, but doesn't give you that small town college feel at all.
A true college town thrives because of a college. Tuscaloosa would be a rest stop on the free way if it weren't for the University. Auburn would be a grazing territory for cows if it weren't for the University. So... my view in no particular order:
South Carolina is roughly 109th on the list. If you've been there... you know what I mean.
My girlfriend goes to Auburn. Talk about BORING! The campus is nice, but it's the worst place to go out in. The girls dress so conservative there's nothing to look at and southern guys look like carbon copies of each other. You don't fit in if you're not wearing a Ralph Lauren polo and some gay Costa sunglasses with a neckband.

he wouldn't let his players pose in the Playboy All-American magazine edition, he said, "Cause you can't play football with an erection."
I plan on moving close soon and honestly i think its cool if older too
I can't wait to attend every home game
^^ Lived in a Nashville and loved it. Not a college town. If you don't say Athens, GA #1, you haven't been there. Love me some Ttown, but Athens is da bomb.
Whats the deal with Tuscaloosa. My brothers a freshman and he goes there, my parents said there's basically nothing there. My dad even called Whataburger and tried to open a franchise there. I thought College Station was pretty small but apparently Tuscaloosa would make up only a fraction of it.
