Is Orlando cold during the winter months? Also, Should I get tickets to the Epcot theme park or just Disney world? Finally, what is a great resort that is not chezzy. I am looking at early January as a time frame for going.

I took my kids a few years ago in early Dec. It was perfect weather for the first 2 days then it was in the low 30's for the low and mid 50's for the high. We were not prepared for that type weather and had to go buy some cooler weather gear while we was there. It wasnt real cold to me but our kids at ages 7 and 3 got really cold. I dont think that is typical weather for Florida but nevertheless it did get chilly. As for Epcot I have 2 girls and they really didnt like it that well. Hope this helps...
Avoid Epcot, it's awful
“If you remember me, then I don't care if everyone else forgets.” ― Haruki Murakami
went early last december and it felt amazing.
Weather: The norm is around 65/45 that time of year.
Parks: Depends what your looking for. Magic Kingdom has the most rides. Epcot has some restaurants. Animal Kingdom has well animals. MGM is mehhh. Check out park hopper passes.
Hotels: Couldn't tell you I live here
First question: How long are you staying in Orlando?
I enjoy Epcot, but it's my least favorite of the DW theme parks. You can do everything Epcot has to offer in a day. Probably quicker in the winter months because it's the off season.
Florida weather is weird. Right now it is 80 in Orlando but it can be 50 in two weeks, last year I didn't even have to wear a jacket except for 3 days so it is a toss up on whether it will be 70 degrees or 4o degrees in January. For the most part the weather doesn't get too cold. EPCOT is alright, it doesn't really have too many rides so you can get through the park fast. A lot of people go to EPCOT on the day they leave because they will go to the park in the morning and get done around 2 or 3 and catch their flight or drive back home. EPCOT is a cool place for adults because they have a whole bunch of different countries so you can go get beer and wine from all over and get different kinds of food from all over the world. Disney World and Animal Kingdom are cooler than EPCOT imo. No clue on resorts though because when ever I go it's either just for the day or I stay in a regular hotel.
does bama have a shot at capital one? hmm
Also make sure you ride Splash mountain first. No true theme park experience without being soaking wet, uncomfortable and cold forcing you to buy $50 tshirts. Good Stuff
PS yes people really do this
Went last monday with son, got dam cold but not really the norm Dont care for Epcot, Magic Kingdom is good. Get the fast passes when you can, just have to plan out but better then standing in crazy long lines.
Stay at the safari hotel. The rest of the Disney hotels suck. But the back balcony of the safari one opens up to where they keep the giraffe. You can feed them from your back door. Your kids will love that. Magic Kingdom is the best bc of the rides. Animal Kingdom is a zoo. The rest suck, IMO. Busch Gardens in Tampa is the best theme park in Florida. Then Islands of Adventure/Universal Studios.
Epcot stinks. Period. I was bored as a kid, and an adult. It's TERRIBLE. Zero reason to go there. The other parks all have at least a couple of cool things to see... but not Epcot.
We went last Christmas and had a blast, weather was nice. The parks get very crowded during December so January should be perfect. I have a child with special needs so lines were never an issue. The only rides at Epcot that are worth anything are soaring and test track.
It's the weed capital of the world. Long dreads. Girls with hairy armpits. Where there's hippies, there's weed - Oregon Duck Reuben Droughns
Just go to Universal, disney is horrible, avoid Epcot at all costs. You'd have a better time the Holy Land Experience
Not guilty y'all got to feel me
Stay at the Port Orleans on the grounds! Orlando is nice during the day and chilly at night.
Illuminations, Soaring, Innovations, the Country Walk (Especially the Wine Tasting), Nemo says otherwise ...
Thanks for all of the knowledge.
Get to the parks when they first open in the morning. That way you get through everything you want in a few hours. Then you can go back to the hotel for a nap and head back to the parks at night.
Went this past summer and we did exactly that. In the morning do the rides you want to the most for 2-3 hours then go back at night and just ride whatever doesn't have long lines.
No, its not cold. A hand full of days get in the low forties. It's a laugh to anyone who has lived above the mason dixie.

You should prepare yourself to live with the consequences of your decisions, whatever they may be.
Congrats you did it like a pro. I live 5 mins from universal so i would do this all the time with my dad. Some good schadenfreude watching people be miserable in a theme park because they had been there all day and are exhausted
No idea why people don't pay extra for fast passes. I almost felt guilty passing by hundreds of people on rides where I'd wait 5 min and they'd wait a hour but that guilty feeling went away pretty quickly because anyone has that option and chose wrongly.
haha i love that feeling. My group of friends had VIP treatment at Grad Night (High school seniors from all over go theme park in the middle of the night) because a neighbor works there. Walked past a 2hr line for space mountain 3 times in a row. we got cursed out a lot.
Been to Disney many times.
1st - I really like EPCOT... great place to relax and they have some really good rides. We did the world booze tour. Get the speciality drink in each country
Our favorite place to stay is The Wilderness Lodge. Not cheap (nothing at Disney is), but a nice place.
You are going at a time when the crowds will be the smallest, so that is good...however park hours will be the shortest.
A lot depends on who is going with you... kids, ages??? If you have little kids stick to the magic kingdom and stay close (grand floridian, Poly, contemp, wilderness lodge)
If no kids, I would stay at the beach club (stayed there once, really nice) you can walk to epcot
The animal kingdom lodge is out on the boonies. It is nice, but it takes forever to get to the other parks.
The best advice for a disney trip is to plan ahead for everything. The more organized, the better off you are.

Unless something has changed... haven't been in 2 years. Fast Passes aren't for sale. You get them on a 1st come 1st serve basis when you get to the ride line. You go to space mtn, get a fast pass and it states to come back between 11-12. You go do other things and come back. Also, you can only hold 1 at a time.
