I thought it was pretty good. Denzel was the only thing that made it good. If another actor had done it I would say it would have been a mediocre to bad film.
its the movie where denzel lands the plane right?
“If you remember me, then I don't care if everyone else forgets.” ― Haruki Murakami
Entertaining. I thought at one point he would get his act together. At the same time I've never had an addiction like that. Kinda made me wonder about the airplane crew the next time I flew
Yup, you got me. I'm trying to say (or meant to say) is that his character is typically the same. Meaning... He acts the same. He plays the "save the day" hero most of the time. There isn't a huge range of emotion. I like his movies, but I think most decent actors can pull his roles off. Now, obviously he has some diversity because he's been around so long but his standard is fairly typical. I compare him to a Tom Cruise type. It's jmo.
Good movie, but possibly the most depressing shit I've ever seen.
Out of all the Oscar nominees, Silver Linings Playbook is still my favorite by far.
Columbus 'Til I Die.
Come on man, Denzel is a really good actor. He has plenty of different roles and has done really well in pretty much every single one.
Silver Linings Playbooks was a great movie. My second favorite of the year behind Zero Dark Thirty
Possibly one of the best first scenes in a movie I've ever seen. As an ATC'er though, I really enjoyed the movie.
The only thing enjoyable about battleship was how hot Brooklyn Decker was in it.
Everything else, God awful
Glory and Much Ado About Nothing- two departures. Also Training Day. I think he's great but you are right that his roles have similarities.

The thing with Flight is that if you saw the previews you thought the movie was about a plane crash, survival, the perils of instant celebrity, etc.
But the movie was actually about substance abuse.
This was a damn good post.
I like some of his movies, just not a fan of him. I don't dislike him... I just don't necessarily like him. If that makes sense.
As for the movie, it was far better than I expected it to be.
That part where he told Cheadle and the union rep to call "Harlan Mays," was gold.
Because of some movies? Or something more personal?
That part was hilarious. They walk in the hotel room is a complete shithole. He's passed out in his underwear on the bathroom floor. He cracked his head on the shitter.
Here comes the banana boats.
Haha the funniest part!
''That banana boat's comin' you hang in there you're the champ''
Yeah John Goodman had me rolling during that part, lol.
Then Cheadle was scared to hand him the $500 bucks, lol.
I think I might buy the movie just for that scene
Nothing personal at all. I just don't think he's in the upper echelon of actors at there. My wife and all of her friends are the artsy type so I probably read too much into it, but it's just what I think.
On the other hand, I'm the type that likes movies to be entertained and I'm not highly critical. Rarely do I walk away from a movie not entertained... Including ones that Denzel is in.
90% of Denzel movies suck because he ruins them. Don't expect much of this one
