Barcelona will have a truly remarkable summer transfer season one way or another. I anticipate being out:
G -- V. Valdes, must be sold this summer to avoid walk out in 2014
LB -- Adriano, just resigned so they will get more $ for him
CM -- T.Alcantara, they should have two year loaned him for 2012-2014 but will get him a year starting this summer
W -- I.Affelay
W/F -- I. Cuenca
One of Villa, Alexis, Pedro most likely goes to Arsenal -- I'd guess Alexis
My dream team coming in:
G - Marc Andre ter Stegen, proven shot stopper, will be a monster for the next 12-15 years
CB - Mats Hummels, pairs well with countryman Stegen, he and Pique answer all Qs asked of Barca's backline. Puyol becomes crucial third CB and almost a player/coach
W/F - Neymar, it will take 80-90M to get him but he will make that back for you in year one. Barca desperately needs another creator/scorer up top as Villa and Pedro have been less than reliable and Alexis can't score a goal to save his life. He's ready, he's mostly spectacular.
All other depth can be filled in by La Masia and they will need that to remain cheap after shelling out likely 140M for Stegen, Hummels, and Neymar. Delofeu can back up Neymar, Dos Santos and Rafinha fill in at creative midfield, and Tello remains up top to spell Villa.
That team would be insatiable. Basically for the last 2 years teams have known that Barca is vulnerable in central defense to pace and Mascherano's consistently egregious positioning as well as Barca's goal scoring being WAY too heavily reliant on the G.O.A.T.. Pique + Hummels = world's best pairing most nights and Neymar would be comparable (not equal in anyway) to Messi on the LW. My goodness what a team.
No I did not lose a sig bet, but I am really really really ridiculously good looking.
Hummels and Subotic might already be the worlds best pairing. And just to be a dick....football*
Three W's In My Life: Ward, Weinke, and Winston
So do we have any chance of getting better athletes on the NT anytime soon?
You know I couldn't have typed it that way and not gotten hammered.
No. The USMNT has lost my entire fanship over the last few months. Their work rate against Mexico was deplorable.
That would just make the team worse.
I think the goal keeping is in good hands after Howard, and the future of the centerback position looks bright, but we have nothing on offense.
? We're too white and not enough SEC speed.
Going by size/strength/and speed we already dominate the world even without our "best athletes". Only thing that will ever make us better is getting kids in Europe before they get to HS or the MLS academies developing at a decent turn out...which honestly seems to be working
Yea.... so hummels/subotic? Anybody better and why would they leave?
so why are we still sucking?
Barcelona is the most relevant soccer team in the world today. He would play in more huge matches his first year there than the rest of his career in the Bayern......der, I mean Bundesliga.
Pep Guardiola is a savant. He's not a good coach or a great coach, it's like the soccer gods whisper in his ears continually. Bayern will destroy that league mercilessly going forward.
Because we suck. We can't seem to teach instincts or creativity, Dempsey picked it up along the way somewhere and that's why he's made the best transition to Europe. All we can do is hope the 12-18yr olds that are already in Europe learn to play a more flowing game because the MLS players are always too robotic to compete internationally.
Barca and Madrid are but Bundesliga>la liga every say of the week. Especially if it was my home country, I'd team up with Boeteng or Badstuber at Bayern before I went to Spain. Dortmund has a squad though, Gotze will be top 5-10 in the world during the next WC cycle.
Imagine if Chris Rainey, DAT, etc spent their entire life looking for opportunity no place other than soccer. Playing 3 hours most afternoons and 5 hours on Saturday and Sunday. That's what we need. And we need good soccer players marrying good soccer players and having a bunch of kids.
You can tell me all day I am wrong but you look up great soccer players in Europe and I bet 65% of them's dad played professionally. Muscle memory is genetic to an extent, it gives you a great base.
It's not like you arent making good points but LOL at Dortmund vs Barca. He will say YES if Dortmund pull him in their office and say, "The money is right if you want to go"
If those type athletes grew up playing soccer they wouldn't be those type of athletes, you're either fast twitch or not. Take Usain Bolt and train him to run 7-8 miles a game and he's not running those blazing 100s anymore.
Lol. It's the same reason England has been in the shitter(by the standards of their talent) we're both playing long ball out of a 442 while the world is playing possession football now.
So you're saying by playing soccer instead of football those two guys wouldn't be amazingly quick anymore? You're point with UB is valid, using that as an example to your initial point was tangential. JMO
We need to develop way better technical ability. Something that will take years and years of work and pretty much a total overhaul of how we develop youth players. Klinsman coming in has started that, but its a very long process.

I think overall explosiveness would decrease but it's not universal, if you take 100 people that athletic in football or basketball and start them over in soccer I'd say only maybe 10 would be able to pick up the game and keep a similar level of athleticism and that would take a major shift in our culture to find those gems.
I thought we would go more towards German style since Klinsman came in?
It's been well publicized that Klinsman knows next to nothing tactically, the thing he does bring is a commitment to train the youth teams in more technical manner.
