So the consensus is that it's a good idea to start the books?
Haha, we are probably in the same spot. I think I'm around page 500 or so.
Now knowing what 1995 is like all over again! Thank you 247 technology!!
I would say yes. As good as the show is the books are much better IMO.
I'm on pg 695 to be exact. It's just moving in slow motion with no real exciting parts. Pretty frustrating.
Keep going, book 5 is great. Makes up for it.
This is the day that the Lord has made, let us rejoice and be glad in it!
It would be cool if they would release the books again all in order instead of splitting up the fourth and fifth book.
My fear is that GRRM will have something happen that prevents him from finishing the story. He doesn't look to be in the best of health. It would stink to not know how the story ends and which Stark will rule the world. :-)
The show is definitely changing things from the book but teh basic premise is the same. It is epic to be honest.
The scene with Amory Lorch was awesome. Did NOT expect that.
Also, as gruesome as it was, the scene where Theon cut Sir Rodrick's head off was epic. They sometimes mention that in the book - where you don't cut the head of clean in the first swipe. It's odd/disturbing to see it happen in the show.
It disturbed Theon, I can tell you that
FINAL EDIT: Osha is f-cking hot as hell (the wildling captive that hooked up wiht Theon). I want to do things to that woman.

Books way better, but the changes keep distracting me. I need to try and forget about the books, instead i'm trying to match it up and remember if things happened that way in the book. 1st season followed the book alot closer.
Ok. I just bought the first one. My only concern is the whole "point or view" storytelling. I can't recall reading many books that have used that style. Is it a big deal or not?
Yeah, I agree with everything you said. 150%. Just got a lil carried away bc the show is awesome. I'm the same way. I need to stop trying to compare bc they're going their own way with a bunch of things. And yes, season one followed the books almost to the T.
the show is still going in the same direction as the books, just taking shortcuts to get there. Book probably has too much detail for TV so they cut parts out and cut characters out and have to tie up the loose ends differently. Still ends up in the same place so far though.
No, it's cool. Helps you understand more bc you're getting different POVs. You get people's motives and understanding and backgrounds and way of thinking, etc. WoT does it that way, too. Another must read series.

Round 2 baby
fsufsu said... I've got about 10 great stories on Lane but all you need to know is he will never be a loser, that's for sure.
The problem here is book 4 and 5 were originally intended to be one book split, then book four came out and GRRM wasn't happy with how everything was going and scrapped the whole idea and restarted book 5. Biggest concern is his health as he is on the wrong side of 60 and the wrong side of 300lbs.
I have heard that he has told the producers how he wants the show to end in case he dies before he finishes the books.
and is it just me or is Dany much more of a spoiled brat in the show as opposed to the books?
I have also heard he said he hasn't told anybody because he doesn't want anybody to finish the story if he dies.
Interesting. Who knows what the truth is. I am going to be pissed if that SOB dies before he finshes the books either way.
Just watched it and thought it was a great episode. Ygritte is hot and I love that. They are changing stuff from the book a lot but I think it will be for the better. Seems really good for the tv so far. BTW I'm on the third book but hit a snag and haven't finished the last couple hundred pages.
BTW Arrya ruined that kill man, freaking waste that she ended up having to use it on that nobody dickface
I got confused trying to distinguish from what I thought was in the book and what the TV show did. None of it was bad, but I did think Arya's second kill was weak and not how I pictured it from the book at all. The last scene really threw me off, but I think I got what they are going with that.
That red head is a babe
Dany is a pretty stubborn and obviously feels owed what shes got coming to her. It's her predominant theme in the movie and the books.
