There Will Be Blood
The story behind Gangs of New York is pretty basic....
It's about European immigrants (mainly focused on Irish) coming to America.... there were a group that had been there for a few generations that kind of forgot how they came to be, and started oppressing the 'new' immigrants that were arriving. So the two sides basically all came from the same place but ended up fighting each other over politics. I didn't take it to be some kind of pushy moral story, but that's just me.
I just enjoyed the battles out on the Five Points common area
Daniel Day Lewis kicked much @$$ in each. Both good films but I liked Gangs better because of some of the historical events that were thrown in with the plot.
There will be blood by a long shot. It is a pretty solid story line with a definite Oscar worthy acting by DDL.
Oh wait he did win for that role didn't he.
Love both but Ill take Gangs. So many great characters. The ending was very unsatisying though.

Gangs of New York all day. DDL kicked ass in There Will Be Blood, but the movie was just mediocre to me.
Huddles are for rookies.
There Will Be Blood all day long. I remember walking out of the theater out of the theater and just being like "Damn. That was awesome." The build up to the showdown between Eli & Daniel is ridiculously intense, and it doesn't disappoint.

He is one of the greatest actors of all time IMO. It's rare company to be in 21 movies and receive so much critical acclaim. The guy picks and chooses his roles, because he can.
PS - He is slated to be in Lincoln which promises to be ridiculous as well.

There will be blood...and it isn't close.
I'm pretty excited about Lincoln, does that come out any time soon?
nice, good winter movie
Im shocked, I think its GoNY by a land slide.
Critical ratings obviously aren't the only way to evaluate a movie, but they are one way.
TWBB: 8.2 rating
GONY: 7.4 rating
Academy Awards (also not the only way to judge a movie obviously):
Won: 2 Oscars
Other awards: Another 65 wins & 57 nominations
Won: 0 Oscars
Other awards: Another 37 wins & 60 nominations

I think this interview kind of puts things into perspective on how "into character" he gets
Interview with a great actor
Gangs of New York > the other one
Best actor in the biz right now as far as I'm concerned. I absolutely can't wait for his Abraham Lincoln movie. It's pretty ridiculous how similar he looks to Lincoln for this part.
Yeah right, you want to fight about it?
