1) different municipalities have different laws, but in Alabama you are not allowed to carry a firearm in or around an establisment that serves alchohol, nor are you allowed to carry one while consuming alchohol. Bad example
2) It is very true that you don't "need" an AR to protect yourself, and that argument shouldn't ne made. However, I don't think it should be the governments job to decide what that need is. On the flip side, it is the governments job to keep the public safe. To do so, they quite simply can't be out gunned, and that is why you see bans on military grade equipment i.e. fully automatic rifles, explosives, etc. AR's that you can buy without a class 3 license do not fit that bill. In fact they only shoot a .223 round, and people freak out because you can get large magazines and they look scary.
3) That is why most people want one to be honest, and there is no reason to ban them. People make the assumption that taking away these weapons would stop people like Adam Lanza. He broke 4 federal laws to do what he did, and he would have found a way to do something just as terrible.
If you want to reduce gun crime require individuals possing firearms to be licensed. Without that license you cannot purchase ammo, gun parts, or anything even close to being gun related. Make it illegal to purchase any of the aforementoned for someone without a license. There will always be a black market, but it will make it misserable for those trying to acquire those things illegally. You could insert different levels of scrutiny to different levels of licensing allowing you to possesses higher grade firearms. This whole let's just ban everything that looks scary is effing stupid.
God, give me patience today. If given strength I may beat someone to death.
Not enough room with all the ammo.
No, in the safe.
No, just my pistol. Since i have a kid, it's put away as soon as we/she wakes up. However, I do keep it readily available in case I ever need it and it stays loaded at all times. The rest of my firearms are locked up, but the clips are loaded. The clips are not in the guns nor a round chambered.
^^^^^this^^^^^. We don't need more laws, just enforce the ones we have.
I may be on my own here, but it bothers me that it takes less effort to get a concealed carry license than it does a drivers license. On top of that, finding up to date gun laws can be a pain in the ass. Gun laws should be published, a written test should be issued in conjunction with a background check to get a CCL, and you should have to be re-tested ever so many years to ensure you are current on gun laws. Additionally, you should be required to at least take some kind of firearm safety and training course when your initial CCL is issued. I take gun safety and my CCL very seriously and it scares me to know all you have to do is not be a tard to get one.
How much is the CCL in Alabama?
IF THE GUN DOESN'T FIRE OUR RIGHTS CANNOT EXPIRE

Wow, $75 in Georgia.
Feel ya man. It's ridiculous the amount of paper and proof you need for a DL. But gun permits are easy obtain. I've been a hunters safety instructor since 95. I think it would be a great idea for first time gun owners and people who apply for conceal to carry permits, take a similar course.
Damn. Initially it's $20 and 20 minutes of your life. After that you receive your renewal in the mail annually and just return it with another $20 check. I'm assuming your $75 is annual.
They now take your pic and fingerprint all ten fingers along with filling out the federal questionnaire. The new card looks just like your drivers license. I think it's good for 5 years.
We have to do something like that initially. After that its pretty much gimme your money and don't be an idiot.
There was a home invasion in my town the other month. Four thugs high on bath salts broke in to a couples house(doctors that just moved from Japan to North Alabama). How would Biden's double barrel shotgun help them against four people? Luckily they were able to jump from a second story window. I don't use an AR15 for home defense but Biden's advice was dangerous. Shooting a gun in the air outside is no help when an armed intruder is in your home. And BTW my wife is 115 pounds soaking wet. A double barrel shotgun would knock her on her ass probably causing her to miss. Hardly Darwinism.
In SC it's a written test and a range skills test and right now in Charleston it's a 1-2 month waiting list.
Also .223 is an excellent home defense round because it won't over penetrate. ARs are also easy to mount lights and optics on making them even better.
Idiots leading idiots.
2 points... If you live in the south, you would be surprised as to how many people are carrying guns. If you do not, you are certainly the minority I assure you.
Second, as far as assault rifles as protection, we'll they are the ultimate protection weapon. Whether people need that protection or not is a different story, in which I stand on the side of who am I to say what they need and don't need. But your "stop trying to justify assault weapons as protection" is very comical as you would be hard pressed to find a more efficient self defense weapon for most situations.
I wish Sean Taylor had one instead of a baseball bat.
I'm with you on that, but not on the premise of this particular thread. If I were going to recommend a weapon for a female, who also has no clue about guns and how to handle recoil, this is what i would probably go with.
The Smith internal, exposed and shrouded.
Is this a serious response? Just in case, I'll tell you. After you blow the head off the two guys who run into your room, the others would get the point. This isn't Vietnam, you are not going to have a shot out with a platoon of home invaders. Once they hear the shotgun and see bits of their friends skull all over the wall, I doubt they will charge in after your wife. lol. I mean, some of you.....just....what world do you live in? I swear, some of you just need to set up sandbags and 50 caliber machine guns backed with mortar rounds on the 2nd floor just in case the North Korean Army invades your home. Hopefully you can defend your wife from their wave after wave of men with rapist eyes. At least until the air strike gets there IMO. lol
Tank > Machine gun
50 caliber machine gun > AR15
Man with courage > Pussy with gun
You don't need any of those things to protect your family. There is a much better chance of you shooting yourself or your child shooting himself than protection from a wild west shootout with home invaders.
"Merica'!!!!!!!! Cuz' we done need dem sheen guns to protects our wives. I know a guy, who knows a guy, that had his TV stolen. If he had dat sheen gun he cood til be watchin' Duck Dynasty. He no watch it no more. Dey took are TV shows!!!!!!"
Here's my theory on home protection. Not a gun guy and have 4 small kids. Get an alarm on your house. If someone breaks in and said alarm is blaring and waking up the neighborhood, and the intruders don't run, they continue up the steps to my BR, they aren't there to rob me. They are there to kill me. If that's the case so be it. I'll take my chances with my bat. I live in a nice house in a nice neighborhood. If I lived elsewhere maybe I would feel different. I'm not against people having guns you can do as you please. I dont think they are bad and dont think the govt should take them. I just don't buy the "I need it to protect my family". It's not the 1800s on the Lincoln trail.
Agreed. A dog and a alarm will squash a lot of attacks before they happen. If you are a home invader, why not just move to the next house over without a security sign outside and a dog barking?
Also, I'm of the opinion that if your wife needs to kill more than 3 men she is in trouble regardless. Men who are willing to run in a room with bits of their friends lying all over the place are going to get you regardless. If they are that willing to die to get to your wife, she's done. 3:1 is a good ratio for a special ops guy to have. If your wife has to beat that and take out wannabe medal of honor winners braving a shotgun blast a close range too, it's over bro. Some of you need to come to terms with the fact you can't protect your family from everything.
