I live in Ellicott City! Where did you go?
Damn even more Ellicott City love! Houses here aren't that expensive, ours is probably worth around 600k in a nice neighborhood with a resort hotel 2 minutes away.

I'm about to move to the Raleigh/Durham area, would love to know how much bank I'm about to spend on a house if someone on the board lives in that area.
No I did not lose a sig bet, but I am really really really ridiculously good looking.
Yeah, it's crazy there. My parents bought their home for 350K or something in the 70's when they were in their early 30s. Total stretch for them. Mid 2000's it was appraised for sale at about 5 mil. The prices have come down significantly since the bubble burst tho.
They're obviously not all like this but you get the idea
For a measly 1.75 million this bad boy in Santa Rosa Beach, FL can be yours. Do want
Whaaaa? Where is Santa Rosa Beach?
Edit: Found it. FL is so money. Underrated imo. Unfairly maligned

Between Destin and Panama City. I've been lucky enough to travel to a lot of beaches and stay in a lot of different places. And after all that travel, all those visits, the best place I've been is the stretch of beach between Destin and PC. Santa Rosa Beach, Seaside, Miramar, Crystal Beach, Rosemary Beach, Carillon Beach, etc...are all the places we don't want the tourists to know about. It's what Destin and PC used to be before MTV and college Spring Break got a hold of it. It's where we all go. If you ever get the chance to take a visit to this area, don't miss it. It's an amazing drive and the best beaches I've ever been on anywhere.

if you want an nice house with everything you could ever want in auburn, al. with not like 5+ acres 250,000
Actually heading to a wedding at Rosemary Beach in the fall. Friend of mine's fiance grew up going to Destin and that's the place she chose. He was telling me the town was Truman Show esque. Not sure if accurate...
Yeah, that's where they shot it. I think it was at Seaside specifically. But they are all right next to each other anyway. Fall is a great time if it's pre November. Most of the tourists are gone and the waters and temp is still warm.
I like watching that show "selling New York ". Pretty interesting what you get for your money there, which as you said isn't much.
I liked it there. Went to the old Irish pub (dont remember name) in old Ellicott City to have a couple local brews while the women hit the antique stores. Raging Bitch is some good brew.
Building a 4bedroom 3.5 bath, 3500 SQ FT house with pool/hot tub outside of Orlando for 330K....Life is good.
We did kind of a blitz because we'd never visited the area. I don't remember the street they lived on, but you turn off Montgomery onto Brampton Pkwy and they live back in there a ways.
In order, we went to:
Annapolis and had crabcake sandwiches by the harbor. I love old architecture, so that was cool for me. Want to go stay in the Maryland Inn someday.
DC and hit the Smithsonian. Wind was rough and friend has a 9 month old, so we didn't stay more than a few hours. Hit the metro back and I raged in the back seat cause she wouldn't use anything but the left lane at 5:30 rush traffic.
Old Ellicott City and had Raging Bitch brews while they shopped.
Inner Harbor and ate at Pazo (hated that place). Piddled around a while, then went to the 13th floor bar in top of the Belvedere. That was cool. Went downstairs to the Owl Bar and had more brews. Liked that. They were filming Veep in there, so we tried to sneak in but got rejected.
Woke up Sat am with stomach flu, projectile vomiting, water squirts....flew home with it.
We really didn't have a lot of time, so it was sort of an overview trip and chance for wife to catch up with her old friend.
Well, you did get to see a ton of the area and the best tourist cities so that's pretty good. I know where Brampton is, it's the outer edge of Ellicott City next to the Long Gate plaza, some nice houses out there. Annapolis is such a great city, I wish I could visit more often.
I've been to Old Ellicott City a million times but still love the feel of the place every time I go, even though I can't enjoy any of the bars (underage). Pazos is usually pretty good but as a descendant of a Spaniard there are better out there. Amazing that you talked about the Beleverde because I remember going there once and really liking it, but never got the name. Thanks for reminding me about it lol.
In a short amount of time, that's a pretty good look at what Maryland/DC has to offer. Hope you found Baltimore to be nicer that the reputation it gets.
Much nicer than the reputation. If you go to any large city, there are areas you just don't go unless you are looking for trouble. I can tell you, when we left to go back, they pointed out a couple blocks we passed through that they said weren't safe.... When they come here, I'm going to take them to the worst parts of Birmingham and scare them to death. Baltimore didn't intimidate me at all. Of course, they prob didn't take me through the worst areas, but I'm here to tell you I've been places in B'ham and ATL that would scare the people I saw in the "dangerous" blocks we passed through.
We really liked Inner Harbor. We want to go back and go to Little Italy and have some good grub.
Regarding Pazo, 3/4 of us were open to just eating whatever the server recommended. My wife is plain Jane with food, so she just wanted plain salad or plain rice and then get a snack later. The server was a condescending little bastard about it and treated us like we were something he stepped in just for asking. They had a rice dish...we asked for plain rice...he said they didn't have it. I asked him if they import from that special part of China where they have mutated rice paddies that grow with all the ingredients already in them. Then, as I was hurling my brains out the next morning, I re-tasted the clams.
Wish I could help ... I can't.
Do you know where Ilchester Road is?
And TheT12, was the pub called The Phoenix?
The most dangerous neighborhoods in the city are really hard to get to, so it's basically impossible to get stuck in. There's been a lot of development going on that's really turned the city around and it keeps spreading to new neighborhoods everyday, and it's no longer an industrial town/ the wire everywhere.
Pazo definitely has a thing of it's own, so they specialize in a certain area of cuisine. I can understand a professional waiter disliking a certain choice, but your job is to please the customer so you've got to give them what they want. That's usually not normal here.
Little Italy is great, I've popped into a random restaurant before and have gotten a good meal, but I know there's some very respected places there.
Yeah, I've been past there. It's way out there, I'm on the other side of Ellicott City in Turf Valley. Do you go to Howard?
Are you an alum of any HoCo school?
I don't know the road...I never got to drive, so it was hard getting my bearings sometimes. Plus, I was playing with the kid in his seat so he stayed happy lol.
I just can't remember the bar name, but I just looked at a map and it might have been Diamondback, but it doesn't sound right.
I'm a senior at Marriotts Ridge.
