Not in his current state. He's in no position to demand a high paying salary right now. We could probably get him initially for 1.5 or less and then tell him if he can keep it in his pants and actually win games (eh em Chizik) then we will start paying him a real salary.
I was going to put a witty joke here, but I forgot bama fans still use picture books. So I thought I'd expedite the process for you...
He's said that Auburn is his dream job. Of course he could just be saying that because he knows it's the highest profile program that could use him right now. I mean I know you guys love to hate on Auburn, but come on....Auburn or UK? Not even close.
Sorry, but I cant support this hire, because I still believe Auburn is God's chosen school and could never support a heathen sinner like Petrino
^^^^^Doesnt actually pay attention to bammers on the tBB, because they make comments daily or even hourly that are the same or worse than the guy you just called out
Without self-knowledge there is no individuality
Definitely. Auburn should be the highest profile job looking for a HC, assuming Mack Brown is still at Texas, IMO. Not saying it because of not trusting Petrino, but coaches saying things about dream jobs seem like agent talk to me. He's saying things to make sure that people have him on the radar. If Auburn remains the highest profile job, I'd take my time and not rush into a hire at this point. The top coaches will wait. The only way Petrino wouldn't take it is if he just doesn't want to return to the SEC and that's just off of my thinking and nothing I have heard. Would be less scrutiny for him, but he doesn't seem like the guy that really cares about having to deal with that.
Of course, we all say this like Chizik has already been fired. I do think it happens and a loss this weekend could lead to it happening next week, but the team is talented enough to finish 4-2 for a 5-7 season. I don't know if that saves his job or not, but a win against Vandy and Texas A&M would be a start.
If Petrino does come, he should be forced to share his ho's with the players. It would probably improve his recruiting.
Petrino's recruiting likely sucked at Arkansas, because he was keeping all the ho's for himself and not sharing with the players. This must change
Sooooo if there was any doubt of your sanity before, you definitely just removed all doubt. God's chosen school? What is wrong with you. Seek help. This isn't the crusades, this is college football and you need medication.
Not going to happen. Possibly Vandy, but A&M is going to teabag us. I say we finish the season 4-8 and Chizik will remain until then, but the uproar from the fanbase is even too much for that dipshit Jay Jacobs to ignore. I'd be all for Petrino because he is a disciplinarian and that's what we need. Chizik wanted to be everyone's friend while he was recruiting and then treat everyone like a child when they got here...including his assistant coaches. Chiz is a joke and he will get to the end of the season, but nothing beyond that. If Petrino can keep BVG around I think we can be a contender again soon. The longer Chizik is here the longer it will take for our program to recover.
I see Petrino as too established of a coach to keep BVG just because. It could happen as they did coach together for a little while in Atlanta when Petrino was HC. There is no telling what their relationship is like though with how Petrino left though.
Then again, Petrino has never had great defenses so he could be open to trying something other than bringing in one of his Arkansas guys. I do think that where ever he ends up, the staff is going to be basically the same guys he had at Arkansas. He owes it to them seeing as how he is basically responsible for them getting canned after this season as well.
I don't think so. I understand your line of thinking, but honestly, Petrino is in no position to make any kind of demands. I say we throw him 1 mil for the first year and a couple of sororstitutes a semester and tell him his contract will be based on performance from there on out. ....No, but really I would say 1 mil first year and a clause on him keeping his dick in his pants. I think that if he and BVG could build up some chemistry that it would be a nice combination. While our defense hasn't been spectacular this year, it is lightyears ahead of last year and I think BVG will get them into shape.....and we all know what Petrino could do on offense...especially with the talent Auburn can bring in.
I think it will cost way more than a million dollars to get Petrino. I understand your line of thinking, but there will be other programs, that may not be on Auburn's level as far as having a chance to win, but could be attractive enough that will go up to 3 million for him I am sure. There will be a character clause in his contract anywhere he goes that will give the team a free out if something like this happens again, but he is going to demand somewhere in the neighborhood of 3 million anywhere he goes, IMO....especially if it is a big time program that he knows can afford it.
You may certainly be right, but if he really wants Auburn I think we can afford to underpay him at least for one season. He knows he can build a good program here. I'm all for Petrino. Everyone wants to talk about him being this and that and Auburn selling out, but I'm sorry, college football is a bottom line business. It is about wins and losses. Yes, you want a guy who is a positive image for your university, but again, the bottom line is wins. I don't think there's any way in hell Petrino screws up again. He knows what he has done to his reputation and knows he can't afford another fvck up. I'm all for the Petrino train rolling into Auburn.....Mostly because I have forgotten what it was like to score multiple touchdowns in a game.
What the hell are you talking about?
I don't even think that makes it a bottom line business. It just makes it a business. You have to have a coach that makes a difference in these kids' lives for the better and for a lot of them, that means giving them a chance to go to the next level. For the rest, it means giving them a great experience while they get a degree. If a coach can keep a kid focused on what their goal is, it will trickle down into wins on the field, IMO.
I know that sounds very politically correct in a business in which the goal is winning games, but that's where it starts. The players have to start with doing things the right way. Then you have a blank slate to develop on the field. I think Chizik's problem right now has nothing to do with on the field. It is completely off the field. Just go down the list of players that are no longer on this team that could be making a big difference right now if their head had been on straight day one. I know one in Mike Dyer that would probably be one of the top 5 backs in all of college football. Him alone, would have won probably 2 more games this year, IMO. Then look at all the kids that could be doing more than what they are right now. Not every player is like Lutz, Blake, and some of the others that are going to get everything out of themselves without being given the direction they need.
Petrino gets this, as does our guy right now. Petrino is a SOB that is probably worse to deal with than Saban, but he makes sure that his players do what it takes to get on the field before worrying about what they do on the field.
Auburn fans need to seriously give up their heathen dreams of bringing in Bobby Petrino. As God's chosen school, we should go out and hire somebody like Benny Hinn as our athletic director.
Benny Hinn lays hands on the blind and they can instantly see, lays hands on the deaf and they can instantly hear, and lays hands on the cripple and they can instantly walk. I am confident Kiehl Frazier could become a competent quarterback with a little touch from him
Please tell me this is a troll... You can't be serious...
Why So Serious?
Saban left LSU because his wife was going to go public about an affair between him and his secretary if he did not take the Miami Dolphins job. Fact.
First I have ever even heard this and I was on the message boards back then. Never saw it mentioned by anyone.
Saban gets all the b!tches. This is old news.
I didnt hear anything about his wife going public, but Saban having an affair was mentioned a lot by LSU fans on tigerdroppings. I believe it was the governor's wife or former's governor's wife. bammer clearly wouldnt have a problem with it even if it was true, because they kept DuBose after he was screwing his secretary
Idk if any of that is true, but it was my understanding that the reason saban took the job at bama (apart from money) was because his wife didn't want their kids growing up in Miami or something to that effect...
It's fact. Nobody other than Auburn fans have heard of it, but it is a fact.
Eat clean. Train Hard.
I don't that had much to do with it. His kids were basically grown up by the time they moved to Alabama. His daughter was already close to graduating from high school and his son was older. His son just got married this past summer.
I think they just realized that they liked the college environment better. If he could have gone back and done it, he would have never left LSU, IMO.
And I'm certainly not condoning the rest of the students responsibilities be put to the wayside. I'm saying as a head coach you are not paid millions and millions of dollars a year to be the team chaplain, you are there to guide the kids and to win football games. Again, I simply don't think even Petrino is stupid enough to make the same mistakes again. He knows he has to have a big turn around here.
