I never hear anyone ever mention hockey outside of the Olympics. Is it popular on the west coast? I'm guessing guys up north may watch it some and Canadians, but who cares about Canadians.
I couldn't name who won the Stanley Cup last year or any year for that matter. Am I missing something?
Not even a good troll. (Ready for the "This is serious, not a troll, who cares about hockey" response even though you know it is a troll).
Hockey some could argue has a cult following.
As a hockey fan I will say that once you really get into hockey, you're into it. Love watching hockey, not only are the players the most respectful, selfless unselfish professional athletes you'll ever see, but the sport itself never gets boring. Always flying up and down the ice the action never stops during a game, extremely exciting at times.
Hockey is very underrated IMO.
But to answer your OP, of course people would care.
We never hear anything about it down here. I don't know anything about hockey anymore. I can't even name you one player or coach. I would just be able to name a few from years ago and hope they still played. I don't even know when hockey season is. So, no, it's not anywhere on my radar.
"Because Bama now sucks just like FSU used to suck when we were getting dominated by OU. Does it make sense now?"- Sliger (FSU Fan)
People need to give it a good shot. They'll love it

Didn't notice the issues this year if that tells you anything.

Yeah, sadly this is the majority regarding the NHL.
The problem with the NHL is that it's not marketed properly. Their marketing dept. is waaay behind the times. NHL playoffs can be the most exciting post season of any sport. Any team can beat any other team any given series. It's not like the NBA where certain teams just don't have a shot in hell. 8 seed LA Kings won it all last year...
I have watched more NHL games this year than NBA games...by far.
Scored 4 touchdowns...in a single game. Polk High!
NHL fans. dV the OP to show him how many fans we have
Danielle Hunter, Jamario Rasco, Anthony FREAK Johnson.. DL wrecking crew of 2013.
I wouldn't care
Go ahead and cancel the NBA while you're at it

I'm all out of upvotes, which apparently means they take away your downvotes to. But yeah I'm with you, this dumb thread definitely deserves a DV.
We're here to kick ass and give out upvotes, and we're all out of upvotes
I've watched more postseason hockey this year than any NBA/MLB/NASCAR/soccer/tennis/golf combined. Hell, the same can be said for regular season.
I think hockey is kind of like country music. The cult following is growing. I've got friends who just a few years ago claimed they HATED country music. Now they go to "country concert" every summer.
Solid point. Truly don't care about figure skating.
When I was about 13 we watched NHL games every week. I think it was a Wednesday night that they came on ESPN. Erik Lindross, Jager, the entire Red Wings lineup, and the Avalanche's goalie were all great. We ALWAYS watched it. But like a few in this thread have said, their marketing has gone to crap. There used to be some big time rivalries that were fun to watch. But now, now I didn't even know it was hockey season.
Same. I tend to watch more hockey than basketball even when the Kings are terrible and the Lakers are contending.
I would be worried if you did tbh.
I think it was Wednesday nights. Gary Thorne called those games, iirc.
Grew up in Alabama, didn't give a damn. Moved to Indiana I love hockey. Some message boards in Indianapolis could read "If they canceled CFB season who'd care.

When you spell all 3 of the names mentioned wrong (ok, two names, but one is first and last misspelled) and you don't know Patrick Roy's name off the top of your head, I don't think you could call yourself even a casual hockey fan at any point in your life and claim the marketing fell off. You clearly only had a passing interest in it in the '90s, and grew out of it. It happens.
That, or the fact that it was 17 years ago. It's hard to remember the SPELLING of the names of Russians and Canadians. lol. Wut?
You clearly didn't have more than a passing interest. You picked arguably the best goalie ever with an easy name of "Patrick Roy." Any casual hockey fan would remember him. That's like saying you forget Magic Johnson's name to a casual basketball fan or Cal Ripken to a casual baseball fan.
You clearly had a marginal interest in hockey and it passed. Like I said, it happens, but if it was because of "poor marketing" or "lack of rivalries," you clearly were not a fan before.

Unfortunately this thread should be dedicated to the NBA. Couldn't imagine caring about a sport so corrupt and easily influenced through officiating. Not to mention the NBA doesn't even matter until the last 5 minutes of the game pretty much.
