to be confirmed within hours probably. I like it. Might would have liked us to just hire Elliot but apparently Bama fans thing Pruitt is an elite young coach. We'll see.
Honestly he's a hell of a recruiter and I knew him back in his HS coaching days. Can't blame a guy for taking a DC position over a position coach position, especially at a school like FSU. Saban always says that he encourages his coaches to move up if they have the right opportunity. I would think that DC at FSU is one of those opportunities that was just to good to pass up. Wish him the best.
Golic to ND
No flame, but he was a DB coach and didn't Saban coach the corners himself?
Actually Saban and Smart pay most of their attention to the DB's. Not sure why he was listed as DB coach. Pretty sure he started as LB coach.
So what position did this guy coach LB's?
Yes, he mostly just recruits. But Smart was also the DB coach before he was DC and he has turned out well. Risky hire that will define Jimbo's tenure at FSU.
Thanks, I was hoping the Bama guys that said he was good wouldnt bail when it was announced.
This is a HUGE risk for FSU. I am a big Pruitt fan but he's not ready for this gig IMHO. He's an outstanding recruiter and maybe I'm wrong, but Sal Sunseri was much more proven/ready to be a DC and we all saw how that turned out.

I could be wrong but I think he began at Alabama as an OLB coach. Like others have said though, he's mainly on the staff for recruiting. Think Lance Thompson.
Unproven but amazing recruiter
UT doesn't have the talent to work with that FSU does though.

I hope Sunseri comes in as LBs coach or DEs. Give us two guys with the same vision speaking the same language and Sunseri could help him adjust maybe. You can over-blame Sunseri for the Vols easily. The team quit on Dooley.
I think it's a B hire that could be an A- if he lands the right guys and gets the right position coaches.
Not excited at all. Should have just kept Elliot if you werent going to get an established coordinator
Not guilty y'all got to feel me
So FSU got a guy that is a recruiter to be their DC? No flame but that's been said a few times ITT.

Danielle Hunter, Jamario Rasco, Anthony FREAK Johnson.. DL wrecking crew of 2013.
Boom or bust pick-up as a coordinator. Risky to have a guy with no play-calling experience calling plays on the side of the ball where the HC didn't cut his teeth. Definitely an elite recruiter though...
We'll see how he fills out his staff.

Stoops barely called plays at Arizona before we hired him since his brother Mikes speciality was defense.
Sounds like I might get my wish. Sunseri may be a Nole. Like I said, very good position coach that got paid to take a fall at UTk.

Good coach and would help recruiting in the DC and Carolina's area.
We're aiming to do major damage in the DMV going forward it seems. I have heard a couple of times we lead for Damian Prince, Deandre Payne and 1-2 others.
he has always coached db's.
I mean Saban's high on him, so that probably played a huge part in this... but it feels like a recruiting hire all the way at this point. FSU shouldn't be a place where you learn to call plays, which is what he'll be doing at first.
Can't say I'm overly excited about hiring a DC that's last real DC job was for a high school on some stupid ass MTV reality show. Would have preferred someone with some real experience.
You get Sunseri with him and FSU has a homerun.
This is also surprising, but in a different way. I honestly thought we'd bring Sal back in his place, especially with Vinnie here... wonder who Saban has in mind.
