To AU??? Will Saban allow this
Not a chance IMHO... I love Kirby now but he'd be hated by the entire state... UA would hate him for being there and AU would hate him for coming from UA... I fully expect him to stay one more year with us. (Wishful thinking I know)
Who cares. If Auburn offers that job, you take it. Simple as that.
I highly doubt Auburn would hate their new HC if they hired Smart.
No they'd love him and he'd instantly become the equivalent of a defensive genius and he would never have really been Saban's puppet.
I also doubt he would turn down a job making 2, 3, or even 4 times as much money as he makes now just because Alabama fans would no longer like him. Whether he would take the job depends on if he would want to compete that close with Saban.
Auburn fans would love to have Smart IMO. Much better than that chode from Louisville.
I'd be okay with it. Not like Saban doesn't have a pretty strong record against his former assistants turned head coaches.
Everybody has a good record against Derek Dooley. A lot of people beat Wll Muschamp in his first year at Florida as well
I'm not saying he SHOULDN'T take it... I'm saying he WOULDN'T because I doubt it will ever be an option... Hell, I'd double or triple my salary any day if I had the option... I just feel like Kirby goes somewhere a little farther away that AU...

If it happens and he wants it good for him!
at least the rivalry will be more exciting on the football field versus off field entertainment.
Surely Auburn wouldnt be stupid enough to hire a guy w no HC experience?
You have money that most programs would kill for. Either hire Petrino or Tubbs back, or get James Franklin.
Auburn is no place for OJT.
Why would any SEC school want Smart? His Defense is in full exposure.
FSU Hired Jimbo, UF hired Muschamp. Can't be that bad of a mistake. Smart would be a good HC imo
I have never been high on Smart. Seems like a Saban puppet but I have heard Saban lets him run the defense and doesn't hover. So he may be good.
Agree. If Smart can get a job at a program like Auburn for his first job, no way you can turn that down. I also doubt most Bama fans would hate him for it either. Alabama fans still love Sal and he left for Tennessee.
Florida St was stupid enough to. I guess you are implying that Auburn is a better job. I would probably agree with that.

To me the best way to go is getting an assistant and gambling with him.
Mississippi State, Louisville, Oregon, Washington, and Florida are all reaping the rewards of it. Chizik was a HC before how good is he doing now?
No one is saying to go hire a failure of a HC this time. That was the mistake in hiring Chizik. You wither take a chance with a top assistant or you hire someone that has been successful at least at some level as a HC.
Little Nicky won't be able to keep Smart from taking a HC position.
Why would he want to?
I know it is tough to imagine Assistant coaches leaving since they are usually fired in place of finding a new HC in Athens.
If we did, it would be eerily similar to the hiring of Pat Fitzgerald Dye.
I'm not saying hiring a experienced HC is wrong. I just feel giving an assistant a shot IMO is better.
Well he blocked Smart from taking the DC job at Georgia.
Wrong. He said he'd never take that job while Mark Richt was there. Also that would be a dumb move.
