That's the word this morning. bobby Petrino seems to have slipped down the board. That is, if the people writing the info are correct and it's not just a smoke screen.
Kirby would be a great hire IMO but Gus will cost you at lest 5-7 more years. Just say no to Gus if you are an AU fan.
It will be Petrino. If not there will be a barner revolt.

Jay Jacobs went rogue again,,, that retard deserves to be strung up by his toes and caned
Who does Jacobs want?
Kirby sucks, can't coach, and doesn't look like a NASCAR driver.
Phillip Marshall saying this morning that it's down to Smart and Gus and will be over by tonight. Wow
4 AU to suck as bad as himself
lulz @ not hiring Petrino. SMH @ Jay Jacobs. People talk mad shat about AU anyway. Quit worrying about AU's image, and make the best hire.
NO, let's hire the man with the crazy, big mouthed wife or the pumpkin pie haircutted freak.
TURDS ALL UP IN THIS MUG. /// "2010 Auburn Tigers, my favorite team. Unbeaten in all ways." -- Dan Wetzel, April 4, 2013, 6:29 p.m.
at least we will have hot 1st daughters
This stuff sucks so bad it almost comical. Only Auburn would fire a coach that went 3-9, leak out information that the coach was having discipline problems beyond what everybody knew about, and then hire a guy who was part of his coaching staff.
This is the main reason
My sources tell me it's Greg Stud, OC for LSU. Thanks AU
Kind of funny that Auburn fans hate Bama, but are strongly considering hiring their paper DC. I am not a bama or auburn fan, fwiw.
Auburn fans obviously have no "say so" in this hire. The Jays have weighed the wishes of the fans and decided that we want the exact opposite.
I don't mind hiring waterhead
Could be gus... I mean worse
Petrino was never going to be the coach at Auburn.
I never thought Petrino was going to come in and take Auburn back to the top but I thought he'd win 8-10 a season and be very competitive. Defenses would still suck though.
If AU hires Kirby or Gus, I'll be pretty excited. Either way you're putting an unproven coach into a program that is down in the dumps and possibly facing NCAA issues. Pretty tough task especially when competing with the Saban.
I agree with you. Gus would not be a good hire IMO. It seems like it's between Patterson, Smart, and Malzahn though.
I don't know how Kirby will do as a head coach. In time, I suspect very well. But hiring him would be the best recruiting decision you ever make. He owns the state of Georgia, and he doesn't have to pay churches and stuff.
Please god don't give Auburn Kirby!!!! They don't deserve him!! I would have to start rooting for Auburn except against Bama if that were to happen.. I think if Auburn was to get Smart they would be happy they did get him in about 3 years from now.. He will be a great coach that I was hoping would stay at Bama until Saban retired so he could take over..
If I was an Auburn fan I would be begging for smart over any other coach.
Think about it.'.
Great recruiter he could hang with Saban in recruiting.
Great with coaching defense
Great at half time adjustments
THIS IS HUGE!!!!
Learned under Saban and didn't stop anywhere in between. Like muschamp and Texas or fisher and Florida State. Saban philosophy is still fresh on his mind..
He would own the state of Georgia in recruiting.
He would toughen up your team and kick the weak links off your team.
He would tell pat dye and the other boosters to get the F away form the football team or else.
He would win a MNC within 5 years at Auburn!!!!!! I would bet lots of money on this!!
The Bama Auburn rivalry would be awesome for years to come until Saban retired then Smart would win most of the time unles we found another coach that could match Kirby!!
God I am happy for Kirby but I don't know if I want Auburn to have a great coach..

Kirby would have his work cut out at Auburn. Posters on several other boards dont want him and they are basically melting down just at the possibility of him becoming Auburn's coach. He probably has a few more supporters, but it is not far off the reaction Chizik got when he was first hired. In fact, I would not be surprised to see a few Auburn fans greet him at the airport if he comes to Auburn by plane
FWIW our guys think it's Gus not Kirby. TIFWIW
The only negative I could think about hiring Smart (outside of the hiring a Bama guy you guys keep talking about) is him switching to a 3-4. It will take a complete overhaul of your defense to do that. 2 years at least of recruiting before he could get his players in there. Your DE's will have to move to OLB and learn how to play in space. Your DT's will have to move to DE and learn to rush the passer. You will need to go get a 320+ pound NG that is ready to play next year. And your DB's will need to be upgraded so they can play man-to-man because he will blitz a lot. Like I said, it will take a complete overhaul...
I know he didn't have a ton of success at UT this season, but Kirby would be smart to go get Sal Sunseri as his DC. He's available, has experience running that system, is a good recruiter, and they have worked well together in the past. He failed this year like I think Smarts defense might fail next year at AU because he did not have the players for his system. Like I said above, it will take a few years to get said players in there and you guys will have to be patient with him. He's a great defensive mind but he's not a miracle worker. You run a 3-4 if your school is capable of recruiting amazing athletes This is especially true at the JACK, Mike, and NG position. You can't run one if you have sub par talent and LB's and DL who are undersized won't get it done.
Thats simply not true. He doesn't own the state of Georgia.
He doesn't own it but he does a phenomenal job recruiting GA from outside the state. If he were the coach at AU he could do even better since Auburn is in Georgia.
