Dude is an obvious homer. No surprise here, the author is from Chicago and grew up during Jordan's prime years. This one line made me laugh out loud:
"This again, suggests the conclusion that Bryant has benefitted from the rule change. If mere mortals result from the rule change it stands to reason that the nearly immortal would too."
The empirical data has nothing to do with being a homer their facts. The amount of MVP's that are perimeter players b4 the hand check rule and after is substantial, Joe Dumars said the only way I could guard him was to grab him if the rules were like today I would have no chance..

Michael Jordan averaged 41 points per game in the 1993 NBa finals, Lebron JAmes couldn't even score a bucket in the 4th quarter against the Dallas Mavericks LMAOOOOOOO, and people compare him to Jordan you can't even make this stuff up..
Yep, Kobe is still better than Jordan at 34 years old.
Hope you're not serious?
I'm not saying he is better. He hasn't proven that yet.
I just think its ridiculous to say "He will NEVER EVER EVER EVER be as good as MJ". It makes no sense because LBJ is maybe halfway through his career and - lets be honest - is ahead of the pace that Jordan set.
I wouldn't post it if I wasn't.
Have you ever seen MJ play and how old were you?
Explain to me how he is better?
I read the stats.
I did, I was born in 1991. Let me guess, you were born sometime between 1975-1990 and thus grew up watching MJ??
I'm not saying Jordan isn't the best. In fact, I think he is, but I also think Kobe (who I hate) is in the conversation and I think LBJ is in position to get to that level.
The lovefest was/is just over the top. He was on a fantastic team, had the best coach ever, and got tons of publicity from Nike. He had a lot going for him.
I really don't get why people are so emotionally attached to MJ. The guy was a cheater, a gambler, a womanizer, selfish, and cold to others. MJ thinks people like you are dirt. He hates those who can't do what he did and is all around terrible at just about everything outside of selling shoes and playing basketball.
There's lies damn lies and statisitics, the article above will explain how the handcheck rule pre and post has exagerrated stats. When MJ played you can actually put your hands on the defender, if MJ played in this era he would average at least 50 points..
In today's NBa you can't play physical defense, in MJ's era they would destroy you Rick Mahorn, Bill Lambeer, and John Salley would injure people. I don't love MJ as a person but as a player there is no person in any sport that can match his greatness.
You give players from that era way too much credit. They were great and physical players, but guys like that have always existed.
The NBA as a league is just as good and competitive right now as it has ever been. But I get it, you have your mythical "golden age" view of the NBA from 1985-1998 and nothing I can say will change that.
FWIW Lebron averaged 21 ppg as an 18 year old with the old rules. He would have been fine either way
Lebron is all-time great he's just not MJ that's all I'm trying to explain to you, Lebron cries to the ref if you sneeze on him imagine if he got an elbow from Rick Mahorn or Lambeer?
All I am saying is LBJ could be. His game is off the charts and he has the oppurtunity to win several more titles. If he does that, then he is in the conversation without a doubt.
Also, Lebron only pleads for fouls because it works.
LBJ weighs more than either of those two, so it's not as if he couldn't handle it.
LBJ needs to win at least 5 more titles to be in the discussion if he does that and dominates playoff basketball like MJ than I'll listen but right now he has 1 title while MJ has 6..
At least you are admitting there is a threshold. Some people won't do that.
I will eat my own words if LBJ doesn't live up to his billing. I think he can do it though.
I agree about Lebron not deserving to be compared to him, because it is way too early. However, according to your own argument, Lebron will never get the chance to be compared to Jordan, because he's also already lost 2 NBA finals appearances. And I won't argue about the finals wins and losses for Kobe, but to say Kobe "isn't in the same stratosphere" as Jordan is just silly. I'll never say Kobe is better than Jordan, I don't think he is. But he might be the closest thing we'll ever see.
"A good burn is like good sex. It's simple, to the point, and leaves your victim totally destroyed."--Kenny Drebsen
He had one of the most dominating big man of all-time on his team i think if you put any superstar with Shaq in his prime you will win a title..
And then he went on to repeat as a champion after Shaq left. The last 2 NBA teams to repeat, Kobe played on. He was also the one on those Lakers teams to have the ball in his hands down the stretch of clutch games because of Shaqs free throw shooting. And please don't act like Jordan single handedly won 6 titles, he had that little wing man that was also known was one of the best defensive players ever/top 50 all time player in Mr. Pippen.
The year MJ ditched his teammates to go chase a MLB pipe dream, the Bulls won 55 games and were 1 egregious call away from making the finals again. Take away Kobe from any of those Laker championship teams, and the Lakers win NOTHING. Jordan played with one the greatest rebounders to ever play the game (HOFer Rodman) and the greatest perimeter defender to ever play the game (HOFer Pippen)....he also played with the greatest 3 point shooter in NBA history (Kerr).
It's an absolute FACT that MJ has never made it past the 1st round of the playoffs without Scottie Pippen.
The hand check rule is nothing, compared to the league now allowing zone defenses.
