Why does it matter? Because the goal of this country is to advance technologically, intellectually, and physically. It would be pretty tough to do that when everyone is smoking marijuana on a regular basis and doing whatever other drugs they feel like doing.
Forgot about the prisons, thanks.
People don't do what they want anyway. That's a ridiculous statement.
Are you going to go and drive your car 110 mph down the road because you want to? Or will you be stopped by the police?
You are right, the government is here to serve the people, but by it serving you, you have to give up your "perfect freedom."
Less than 2% of people are in the prison system for marijuana charges alone.
This country has a goal? Says who? You?
Alone is the keyword there.
Yeah they don't have a goal. That's why there is no educational system or anything like that. What was I thinking.
Yeah, very rarely is a person in jail for marijuana alone. There are usually other crimes that they have committed which leads to the reason they are in prison.
I'll be back in around 15 minutes, I gotta go grab some food real quick.
Yeah they do. It's not a ridiculous statement. You are the ridiculous one.
What's the speed limit? 50? I'm late. I'm going to go 60. Just did what I want.
I will drive 110mph if I want to. I know there are risks involved, but dammit... I have the FREEDOM to take that risk.
And no, I don't have to give up my freedom for any reason whatsoever.
You sound like a fascist.
Which means one can easily contend that even the law enforcement officers don't follow the letter of the "law" to a "T" when it comes to marijuana. Probably because unlike you, some of them don't see it as something as dangerous as abusing prescription drugs. But that's just a thought. I damn sure would like my chances much better if I got stopped by a cop and had some marijuana on my person than a single solitary prescription drug pill.
Dude.... this is just silly. Enjoy your snacks. I won't be here when you get back.
where in the hell did you get these goals? link please
What is happiness? The feeling that power is growing, that resistance is overcome.--Friedrich Wilhelm Nietzsche
You're smarter then that starement.
So lets ban everything that has POTENTIAL to be harmful.
No more booze because EVERYONE will be drinking on a regular basis
No more guns because EVERYONE will be shooting people on a regular basis
No more cell phones because EVERYONE will be texting and driving on a regular basis.

and basically you want a totalitarian state with no personal freedoms except those prescribed by a majority or supermajority of people?
so do you think drinking more than two servings of alcohol in a sitting should be illegal?
have you ever considered that marijuana (especially the sativa strain) can improve one's intellectual capacity? look into it. i'm sure many people here can vouch for that
Depends on your body size and tolerance to alcohol.
I have not considered it, but if it was 100% proven that marijuana improved one's intellectual capacity, I'm pretty sure it wouldn't be illegal.
You hear that story about the gooks putting chemicals in the grass, so we don't fight, so we become pacifists?
No, I want a state where I don't have to fear the irrational people any more than I currently do. By allowing each person to do what they want as long as they don't believe they are intruding on another's rights, you are taking a huge risk that a person won't intrude on anther's right and leave too much up to interpretation on what a person's "life, liberty, and pursuit of happiness" is.
but you agree that getting drunk should be illegal because it's not productive?
do you think mcdonald's should be illegal because it's not good for you?
Link to the goals? You don't think by having an education system, health care system, and research system like we do that those aren't the goals of the country? Pretty sure it isn't even the countries goal alone, it's the goal of mankind to advance in every aspect it can.
i'm confused. is it irrationality you dislike or nonproductivity?
every man makes his own goals.
i think when there is a conflict between domestic tranquility and freedom, we must errror on the side of freedom. but i understand you point of view
Not productive? There are far more things that are unproductive than productive, so I'm not going to argue that.
Do I think getting drunk should be illegal? No. And while not every person acts rationally while in possession of alcohol, it doesn't mean every person who drinks is getting plastered and committing an act that is detrimental to their health as the human body is meant to metabolize alcohol.
Marijuana is not meant to be metabolized and stays in the brain when consumed, leading to early onsets on different mental diseases and can cut down the brain's growth and maturity.
