I'm sick? Wars happen for all kinds of reason all the time, for as far back as we can trace civilization. Countries that do it well are fascinating to watch. That's really what I meant.

No one should want a World War in the nuclear age. That's just silly.
We need to just sit and wait right now. If the N. Koreans attack, then we talk to China before doing anything. It is in both China's and our own best interest to not let this thing escalate.

Pretty much. Just shovel more chit on top of the already huge mountain of chit.
This x 10000.
I don't know if we could win that war. People in charge are too "nice" to win a war like that. This is a quote from General Sherman (may he rot in hell for burning the South) "
War is cruelty. There is no use trying to reform it. The crueler it is, the sooner it will be over. ". A war like that would require some very tough decisions than I don't think the pansies in Washington could make.
Agree. Send them a message right now that we intend to nuke their capital, pyongyang, and wipe it off the face of the earth if they do anything. Everything and everyone of significance in that country is in pyongyang. Their elite class and military will understand exactly what that means.
A demand like this is what should be done, but as I stated above, the pansies in Washington will not give an ultimatum like this.
Real wars help the economy. Little proxy wars where we don't gain much don't.
You think? That was proved true in WW2 but lets be honest....This country doesn't produce anything or manufacture anything like it did back then that would seriously help te economy.
Wars do help part of the economy. I work for a company that manufactures commercial and military support items such as aerospace parts, etc. A war would be a huge boost to companies in that line of work, but I don't know if the gains to that sector of the economy would outweigh the debt it would cause.

Does north Korea have oil?
If NK attacks they will massacre tens of thousands of UN troops (mostly American) and hundreds of thousands of civilians in hours. They have 14,000+ artillery batteries within range of military bases and Seoul. They have the subs and aircraft to get 10,000+ special forces into SK in the initial attack. They have been trained their entire lives to blend into SK population and carry out sabotage and suicide attacks.
NK has the food to fight for 500 days and the fuel to operate their war machines for 100.
After the initial air droop and sub insertions of troops they would fall back into potentially millions of hidden bases and tunnels they have been building for 50 years+ it would make Vietnam look like a cake walk.
NK knows they are technologically inferior to the USA and SK. That is why instead of building air craft carries and the such they have focused of biological, chemical, and electronic warfare. They would have EMPS and jammers set up in strategic areas for the impending invasion.
Also besides unreliable B2 bombers and other stealth aircraft the USA would have to rely on missiles as the only air support. B-52s and other conventional bombers would be at the mercy of 15,000+ AA emplacements and 10,000 MANPADs.
North Korea has been building up and preparing for a invasion for 50 years. We could never win without nuking the hell out of the country and we could never occupy the country. They have millions of weapons (multiple guns per a civilian) and have tons of hidden weapon caches and factories.
None of this matters. Pyongyang would be vaporized in the first 90 minutes. Game over. Just send them a crystal clear message of our planned response to any attack and no attack will ever happen. This is exactly why we have nuclear weapons ... to scare the bejeesus out of even the craziest countries.
I don't see us nuking a city in this day and age. Unless they used nukes first I see us trying to invade and fight via conventional warfare. We would already be handicapped up the asses with all the treaties and conventions we have signed limiting our arms.
we would bomb them into oblivion. no nukes
If you send the message, it will not come down to that. China, Russia and the U.S. are not going to allow N. Korea to start WWIII. And if the only way to stop them is to wipe their capital city (command and control) off the face of the earth, don't think for a second it won't happen. Too much is at stake. Send the message and N. Korea will back down. Crisis averted.
Unfortunately I believe the days of the US being the badass on the block are gone. Someone on DC should get out a history book and look at how we dealt with these types in the past. They wouldn't be a threat anymore by Monday.
besides we have anti jamming radar, x ray infared vision, and bunker busters... they will burn.
if you don't think we won't bomb north korea into oblivion if the massacre 50K US troops you are clueless. I don't care how little our president's pecker is, he would be forced to retaliate if that shit happened.
We could only use Tomahawks and similar missiles. Until the AA emplacements and MANPADs are taken out we won't have air superiority. The Nighthawk being shot down in Yugoslavia in 1999 is a example of how exaggerated our stealth technology is. It would require 10k+ missiles to clean out the emplacements. We shot under 500 tomahawks in Libya and ran low in just days even with all of the bases and military installations in Europe and the Middle East.
This isn't Iraq, they are 100x prepared and they have know for years what they are up against.
I hope your right , but I will believe it when I see it.
Edit. I was hoping for action before 50k Americans lost their life

total war would be declared if the massacred 50K UN and US troops. sorry, but China will not side with them unless they want to lose 90% of their export.
Golden is better then Jimbo... I feared it was true. He is going to hoist a crystal ball there - fsufsu
