Braves have signed BJ Upton to a 5yr to $70/$75 million contract pending physical.
I really like this signing!
Very Solid pick up.. Glad they're making some moves and spending money. Upton is still young and still has room to improve his game.
Danielle Hunter, Jamario Rasco, Anthony FREAK Johnson.. DL wrecking crew of 2013.
He will be happy to be so close to FSU, good for him
I like Upton

Really love that he's a RH power bat that plays an elite caliber CF.
He really, really needs to work on his strikeouts.. We had to much of that last season.
Upton had 167 strikeouts last season which must improve.
I do like the 28 HR's and 31 Stolen Bases though
Very good news
Good news for y'all. Most of the time in free agency you get screwed and have to pay for past production for a declining player but five years for a 28 year old you'll get peak years.
"People always ask me if I wish I were bigger. I tell them no. I always wanted to be a miniature badass." Dustin Pedroia
I can't wait until Uggla & Upton are both hitting under .230 batting 5th & 6th in the same lineup.

This is BJ not Justin....
He strikes out. But his OBP is typically better than last lear's .298. I think he was swinging for the fence a few more times in a contract year. Everyone forgets Bourn struck out 155 times last year, probably with 154 of those coming in the second half. BJ is a legit 30/30 guy who plays a great CF. Nice to watch the Bravos spend a little. See who they get for left field but it's good to know that with this signing they should remain in the thick of the playoff hunt
Real Braves fans should know all about Bourne's strikeouts... If they so much as watched the playoffs. I think the NL will help him with those K numbers.. Way more beasts in the East, well, more SO pitchers.
We'll see, a change of scenery helps too.

This isn't even that big of a sign, and its still better than anything the Reds have done so far this off-season. Signing Broxton to a 3 year extension is the big news out of Cincinnati
Never mind needing to replace Ludwick in the outfield and trying to get someone better than the worst hitting OF in the league Drew Stubbs. The big need for a lead off hitter, which they ignored last year near the trade deadline.
Sorry, just venting a bit.
You have to look at his career numbers. And he is just getting to his prime. On top of that with Longo out last year he was the Rays only real source of power last season. He won't have to be with JHey, Freddie, Uggla (still is a homer threat, even if that is all he is)
Heyward sucks, dude. I can't wait until he gets up to bat, because its usually comedy hour with what he swings at.
Gold Glove caliber RF
At 23 years old, wouldn't say that "sucks." He isn't a superstar, but you would be hard pressed to find experts who don't think he'll be great and he's already damn good
Yeah his 2012 stats really suck!

Glad to see the Braves make a solid FA pick-up.
I don't follow BB like I used to but as a GA native, ill always love the Braves.
Been through some great and some horrible times with them.
Plus the fans would do the chop like another team I'm partial to.
Heyward REALLY turned it on when he was fully healthy. There was a stretch where he was making great plays in the outfield, stealing bases, clutch hits and that's when we saw his real potential. Pretty impressive doing all of that at 6'5''. He's getting a better "eye" at the plate and his plate discipline has always been good, almost to patient to a fault and he's improved all of that.
He's a FSU fan? Dang. I might become a big fan of Bossman Junior now: Brave and a Nole!!
Another Braves FA that will suck for years...
I MISS FRED MCGRIFF
Probably...and you can't even say this one is a great clubhouse guy.
This lineup is going to put up 0-1 or 6-7 runs every game.
hahahahahahahhaahahaha Rays fan here and you guys are gonna be pissed. Best Center Fielder defensively baseball but his hitting is horrendous. The strike outs between him and Uggla alone will be comical. Over Paid is an understatement, plus he is a complete a hole.
unfortunately business as usual for this team
