Girl was bitten in half while snorkeling in Reunion (an island off Madagascar) in front of her sister. They were swimming in a restricted zone closed due to high numbers of sharks. The shark carried away the bottom half of her torso. You guys want to take a guess as to what species did this?
- A 15-year-old girl was killed by a shark on Monday while swimming just metres from the shore of Reunion Island in the Indian Ocean. The horrifying attack, which happened in…
"Because Bama now sucks just like FSU used to suck when we were getting dominated by OU. Does it make sense now?"- Sliger (FSU Fan)
What was the weather conditions? Can't rule out a sharknado without more information.
without clicking on the link first i would say oceanic white tip
"Officials said the two girls were swimming in an unsupervised area where bathing is forbidden due to the high number of sharks."
If they would have followed rules this probably wouldn't have happened.
Biting a human in half is no easy task. Sure, plenty are capable, but most don't go about it like that. It's like if we were to cram a huge sandwich in our mouth. We could do it, but it makes more sense to eat a piece of it first. This was a big shark. I would have to think in that shallow water it had to be a Great White or a huge Tiger. Since it's in that part of the world, I would say Great White. But the shallow water makes me think there's a solid chance it was a huge Tiger. And when I say huge, I mean huge. The Tiger below was caught on the other side on the continent but the same one. Biggest Tiger I've ever seen a pic of.
Whale shark. Mistook her for one big ass piece of plankton
Reunion Island = Bull Shark.
Reunion is the hairiest, most deadly insane surf spot in the world right now.
Place is effing nuts
Ten shark attacks on surfers in the past two years, three of them fatal. Now the surfers are biting back. Bucky McMahon paddles straight into the insanely unsafe waters of Reunion island and reports on a raging turf war between man and beast
When deadly bull sharks started terrorizing R desperate residents turned to a renowned free-diver for a solution. The Shark Whisperer
Nailed it. Bull shark for sure.
No way to determine which did it until they find remains, if they even do.
Tiger Shark. Has to be one of these 3 species.
It's possible it was a Bull, but it would have to be one of the bigger Bulls ever seen. 99 out of 100 times they grab a leg or arm. To cut a human in half, even a 15 year old girl, takes one hell of a big mouth. And Bulls generally start to grow fatter after they reach a length of around 10 feet. Not saying it couldn't have happened, but I would think a shark over 15 feet would have done something like this. JMO
From the artcle Bremm posted, it seems that Bulls are the most likely candidate.
Also, I wonder if the poor victim was truly bitten "in half" or is the media sensationalizing a bit.
It's not possible it was a bull, it's 99% probable. They own the island. Multiple attacks and 5 fatalities since 2011. That's almost unheard of... A 12-14 ft bull could easily bite a small girl in half.
If you're interested in sharks read those articles I posted about Reunion. I got sucked down the rabbit hole on the place after that honeymooner was eaten there a few months back.
Agreed. And also it could have been more than one Bull involved
I can't find where they said that.
No, there's not a 99% chance. If she was bitten in half there is a very poor chance it was a Bull. Do you know how rare a 14 foot Bull is? Like I said, they don't go for the torso either.
agree...one of these sharks needs to do the right thing and come forward IMO
A 10 foot Bull is around 1,000 pounds. The largest (weight) Bull recorded was only 10 feet.
99 is hyperbole, obv. It could have been a tiger. They obv grow bigger. But tigers are actually rarer than bulls. The island is swarming with them because of the preserve. And if IIRC they are responsible for all of the recent attacks there.
I've seen Bulls rip a 6-7 foot tarpon (150-200 lb fish) clear in half on numerous occassions.. (as you probably have) I don't think they'd have any trouble ripping open a 15 year old girl.
Agree on it being big, whatever it is.
LOSCANES >>> LOSNOLES
Both articles heavily infer a high population of bull sharks. Not quite sure how how one can miss this.
They go into water get scared and want the wildlife killed.
I bet they are the same type of people that demand lifeguards at dangerous surf spots because they want to go in there but don't want to die. But they want to endanger other people.
When you are doing a pure recreational activity that is dangerous the world shouldn't change for you.
Maybe I'm just missing it. But the attacks they referenced are all of swimmers and fisherman getting bit in the extremities which does infer a Bull. This attack is different.
As for there being multiple sharks, it's possible. But it would have to be a feeding frenzy type of thing. Bull Sharks are extremely territorial. They defend their kill to the death. Many humans have been attacked by Bulls after trying to drag the original victim to safety. They do not let other swoop in. GW's and Tigers usually bow to the larger fish.
