Cabin in the Woods was scary for a little while until you realized how utterly insane the whole thing was. Then it turned into a comedy.
I don't know about just a trilogy cause the story I was more interested in was the post 1/2 rather than the 3 prequel.
I love horror movies but the new ones suck for the most part. If you want to watch good horror movies watch the older ones.

I see nobody listed pumpkin head 1/2. Back then that ish was scary. As of now or recently... Nothing. Closest thing to it would probly be the mist but that don't fall under horror.
My wife and i usually go to the movies pretty often and the best horror movie we have seen in the last few years has been the possession with Robert downey Jr. Very good movie. My wife cried and couldn't watch some of it she was so scared. Other than that i would say pet cemetery and exorism of Emily rose was great. I can't wait for sinister to come out. When we went to see the possession we seen the preview for sinister and it looks like its gonna be bad ass.
If I remember correctly, Cabin in the Woods still had something like 90% positive reviews from the critics on rotten tomatoes
I considered going to this movie, but I was scared away by the generally horrible reviews it received
Fire in the sky freaked me out when I was a kid.
IT the clown scared the crap out of me when i was little. long movie but i like it
That one made me laugh, I saw it when I was younger and it didn't do much for me.
Another one that hasn't been posted yet is Misery. Anyone remember this scene?
Good lord, Kathy Bates is creepy in that movie.
If God dwells inside us, like some people say, I sure hope He likes enchiladas, because that's what He's getting
nirvanabama has a good list. I would add Invasion of the Body Snatchers, Event Horizon, Pandorum, Trick 'r Treat, House on Haunted Hill (original), Let the Right One In, 30 Days of Night, An American Werewolf in London, all Alfred Hitchcock films. I am a huge fan of Stephen King's books and most of his earlier movies (Carrie, Cujo, Christine, Creepshow, Salem's Lot, The Shining, Silver Bullet, Needful Things, ect.). I am also a big fan of Clive Barker and loved Hellraisers and The Midnight Meat Train.
watched the midnight meat train this weekend and it was god awful...
not going to lie but the horror genre has been terrible in the US for the last 10 years outside of the rob zombie films, remake of dawn of the dead, and the first saw.
If you are looking for a great scare there are a bunch of foreign horror films that arent held back as they are here. Seems like every horror movie now is pg13 unless its from outside the states.
Whatever happened to good ole american rated R horror flicks!?
