Lulz at your first part
Second part, start a thread when a big ten team competes with an sec team. The playoff will hurt our chances for a one game shot. As far as MSU goes, I agree they aren't ready for a NC run. They are good enough to beat Michigan though, so I don't get where you think Michigan will be good enough to go through a playoff. Unless you're counting on high school kids in the future
That's cute and romantic, just like we thought about the Tigers in spring ball. Now if we can just get LSU, USC, and Bama to stop recruiting and coaching.
Your "Coaches strategy" is to make the call at the line. Less than 6 in the box vs. the Michigan Spread and Denard will call a run. (If your linemen aren't getting off the line and downfield, you guys really suck) But, wait, you knew that, you know all the new techniques. I'm sorry if I'm going over every thing you already knew.
If denard has seen a cover zeor he's also going to call run 60% of the time unless he sees something quick and a match up he likes and the ball is going to be out in about 2 seconds. If it's cover 1 with man under or one extra man deep, he's 50/50 at calling a run at the line of scrimage. If it's cove 2 or more, he's 70% or greater looking to pass first, but I've went through his prgressions in the other thread, and what the heck, you know all this stuff. Just old crap, from an old dog.
On your running plays, I've actually seen you guys option a tackle and block an end which Oregon has done, but you guys did some last year. On your speed options your linemen are releasing right now and looking at Linebackers and you guys are just saying screw the linemen, we aint blocking them. (if you are saying that they don't release because they're waiting for Denard to get over the LOS before they go to the LB's, well, you and I are watching different games.) If you want to talk about calls during the play when you guys slide protect with that whole "run pass" option you guys were talking about, well, we'll have to go into the techniques your guys are first using in slide protection. Aiming high above the thigh to keep defenders hands down, and listening for any go calls during the play.
I'd love to talk any blocking schemes you want, as you are up on all the latest techniques, and this is actually the first year I didn't have time or a buddy who wanted to go to any football clinics. I'm old, and I fit into that category of "Old dog, hard to teach new things to". I'm not as qualified in any of the techniques and schemes as you are, and I'd love to learn from you. I've only picked up a couple things from watching Denard and Michigan on film, and talking to some people whose job it is to break that stuff down. They do it for a living, but aren't as informed as you, so I'd love to learn from you. (actually that's sarcasm, but if you really do have an inside to what Denard looks for or what your coaches have him calling, I'd love to hear it, just because that's the fun part of football for me)
Help an old dog out.
Scrap the conference then.
I mean, why even try? We will NEVER beat a SEC team ever again.
Just being realistic here.
Go Blue and Go Titans!
Now you know how MSU fans feel when Michigan fans pound their chest about recruiting rankings to us and how that will result in a decade of dominance
"If you're worried about Wolverine fans, just move to Pasadena. You'll never have to deal with 'em."
Yeah, I didn't say that, and you're over reaction to it is typical. It's going to be 2 or 3 years, and it's not going to be easy. But come on, this thread is asking who wins a NC in the big ten. We've won about 3 1/2 in 50 years. That's not a good percentage. The SEC has what 6 or 7 in a row? Dantonio, Hoke, and Meyer might be retired by the time the Big Ten wins the next one according to percentages. Had the BCS stayed as it was, the Big Ten would have a better shot at a title in the next few years. With a 4 team playoff, I'm saying our league has a longer shot now.
Can it change? Absolutely. But it's going to take time. As I've already said, the SEC schools aren't going to stop recruiting and coaching them up.
We can beat SEC teams. I think Michigan has a good shot this fall. However, to ask us to go through our conference, then the CCG, then a playoff it's going to be tough. All I'm saying. To answer the question though, if it was to happen, it would be Meyer, then Either one of the other two. OSU gets to cheat and get away with more than we do. They have a better chance.
Same as Michigan State fans that tell Michigan fans they will never win again because they won the last four?
I really don't care though, I just think it's funny he is crying because people dare to even SPECULATE what teams might win a MNC.
If you don't like the thread D. Wags, don't open it then.
You overreaction to this thread is typical, but to answer your point. SEC teams aren't ALWAYS going to be great, they will have their down cycles just like every other conference out there.
This entire thread is just for fun, just to speculate.
If you don't like my opinion, don't read it. My opinion stinks just like anyones.
I have never seen anyone say that? Link? You can go back to some Walmart Wolverine in this thread saying that UofM will dominate for the next decade, though. I don't feel like going back a few pages.
Not only that, we've done very well against SEC teams. If anyone is our kryptonite, it's USC.

This post makes me laugh. Michigan and Ohio State have less NC's than MSU over the last 50 years of college football. Elite level recruits? What, like Michigan? Ha! 1997 was a long time ago in the eyes of 16 year old kids being recruited.
What makes a much bigger impact on chances of winning a NC is not prestige in the eyes of recruits. It's prestige in the eyes of the voters ranking teams preseason and all the other smaller polls that influence the BCS formula. Teams that sell and have a long tradition of winning get bumped up more than schools that don't have that same tradition. It's a self fulfilling prophecy. Team A is good because they have been good for a while, so lets rank them high because they're good. At the end of the year, they may have had the same season as Team B, but Team B is ranked say 22, while Team A is ranked 8 and in a BCS bowl. They then use that BCS bowl as a source of evidence that they're a good team and should be in BCS bowls more often. The system is a complete joke.
The biggest secret held by these sites is the fact that you have 15 or so kids that stand out and then a ton of kids that are all around the same talent level. To somehow rank them in order is a ridiculous task. Some people choose to believe the rankings while others take them with a grain of salt. In a general sense, recruiting rankings work but on an individual level, they are a joke. It's easy to say Alabama has better recruits than LA Tech. It's much harder to separate teams recruiting all the same kids that may not be such a standout talent. We can all say the 5* kid ready to play immediately is great. But how about the 3 or 4 star kids that make up the bulk of your class? How about the kids that may need a year to RS? How can you possibly predict what they'll do in 2, 3, 4, or even 5 years? Yet, even with me saying this, this post will be neg'd, ignored, made fun of, or whatever else. Except, you know it's true. To what extent? I don't know but you know it's true. The BCS favors traditional programs and these sites don't have anywhere near the staff to competently rank kids, nor the foresight.
And you say that I like to go off-topic. Nice breakdown, but most of that wasn't discussed before and you are going off on a tangent. If you can remember, we were discussing how Michigan's QB has run/pass options on certain plays. You kept beating the drum of olinemen releasing downfield and acted as if there aren't plays where the QB has run/pass options. What you don't seem to realize, and I hope you can understand what I am telling you, is that on certain zone read plays there is also a WR releasing downfield. The oline must be careful of going downfield as you stated, but it is a run/pass option for the QB, as we have stated.
The play starts out as any other zone read, QB reads the DE (usually, though as you stated there have been wrinkles added to attack the defenses), if he keeps it he has the option to run or pass. The first pass option is the bubble screen, but the oline isn't concerned with being called for a penalty for going downfield since the pass will be behind the LOS, and it isn't what I am talking about anyway. What I am talking about is the WR that would usually block the CB covering the bubble screen, he releases. The QB reads the CB or Safety off of that and has the option to pass downfield to him, or keep it and run. As stated, the oline must know this play is called in advance to keep from blocking downfield.
Take it for what it is worth, but this play is what I have been talking about the whole time.
Ohio State 7
Michigan State 4
Penn State 4
You're not including the Better Homes & Garden National Championship, which contributes to Callahan's accounting of MSU national titles. Forget the fact that UPI used to vote on #1 BEFORE the team's even played their bowl game, as in 1965 when MSU went on to lose to UCLA.
BUT DON'T EVER FORGET THAT1997 WAS SHARED!!!!
Hoke if any... Everyone will see Urban meyer without Tebow and its gonna be great!!
What is it you are trying to say?
Please don't tell me you were a butt hurt Canes fan.
That's even better comedy than Butte had on the other thread.
I will say if the Big Ten when's a championship it'll be Meyer or Hoke.
Dantonio winning an NC? Lulz that actually made me laugh.
What part of mythical national championship do you think is hardest for people to grasp? Until we go at least 8 team playoff it's never going to be welcomed by everyone. Um in 97 had a fantastic team but having to play wsu kind of sucked the wind out of a great season. Not their fault, they did everything they were supposed to do. The voters screwed them because they had to follow arcane rules.
Mythical champs are just that. It's who we think, not who proved it on the field.
with those options...urbs
It is possible in about 5 years. That should be enough time for Urbs to have a heart ache for his family and retire, allowing Pelini to coach at tOSU.
