I guess I put Ohio State above Michigan because Ohio State is still above UM and Michigan is playing catch-up.
Barton Simmons | 247Sports | National Recruiting Analyst | Twitter: @bartonsimmons
Based on? Like I said, I can see you making your point based on the coaching, Meyer has the hardware but basing it on recruiting isn't accurate if you look at the details.
These aren't the Tressell days no more. He never brought in the top elite prospect like Meyer has already.
Look at how many top 15' players that have Ohio State right at/ or near the top. Players from Texas, Florida, NJ, etc. Ohio State is quickly becoming the "IT" school just like Bama. There will be some nice battles in the future.
Of course.. no one said we was were on par this year.. except the incoming recruiting classes.
What may be missing from this thread is the concept of a battle tested proven team. I think if you have talent that only has to play one or two tough teams and can "cruise" through 10 games out of the 12 the play in a season, and can play at 75% they may get popped in the mouth when they face adversity and a team that is on par or a little better talent wise then they are. Where as a team that has to play against tough competition week in and week out is already conditioned mentally to step up when pressed.
But hey that's just the SEC line perhaps if you play an easier schedule it can allow you to be healthy and have fresher legs for the championship.
Who knows but come 2014 we will all find out.
Easy Barton... before you know it.. your address and photos will be all over 24/7...
I do think Barton should give scUM more props pulling in Peppers, Hand(possibly), and those 15' guys is extremely impressive.
I will say scUM has settle for less with taking Watson over Westpaul, or Wangler(sp) without chasing an elite. I don't think scUm classes has the depth like Ohio State classes will have.
Like aTm?... It's less about being "battle tested" and more about game experience. How the coaches prepare the team and how the team performs.
Based on UM going 8-4 vs 12-0 and losing head to head in 2012.
Not saying UM can't overtake them, just think that Ohio State is ahead going into 2013.
I agree. If you take Alabama out of the equation, tOSU is as good as any SEC team and a bunch of conferences become on par with the SEC.
The back hurts.
Your 5 year premise and "that conference is about to get dominated" is based off last year. Interesting.
OSU won 5 B1G games by one score, two of those in OT. Winning is the most important thing, but that hardly looks like the start of domination.
I don't know, I just expected more than this from you. And I am not trying to trash you, I have enjoyed your thoughts and agreed with them more often than not but this one is weak so far.
The thing that is being overlooked is that the SEC is just not as good as everyone makes them out to be. Outside of Alabama nobody else is really that great, lsu hasn't had an offense for years and idc what team it is if you lose 11 players from your team you are not gonna be elite the next year.
Texas AM has proved nothing besides even a blind dog can find water once in awhile, they need to do consistently to be taken seriously. Muschamp Hasn't proven he can put together a real offense or recruit as a head coach. Georgia lost a lot on defense and I believe they will take a minor step back because of it.
Bottom line is Ohio State has a super elite head coach who is recruiting elite players from ALL OVER THE COUNTRY and is primed to take over the college football world sooner rather then later. So all you southern fans can bring up the old days of tressel ball to help you sleep better at night but Urban Meyer and The Ohio State Buckeyes are here to give you all a loud rude awakening!
I qualified my statement with Michigan being the one contender.
Essentially what I was saying was that OSU had to win one game a year. You can flip flop Michigan with OSU and the question is the same. Was just using Ohio state because of last season's success. Wasn't a knock on Michigan who i do think is a legitimate contender out of the conference as well.
Regardless of where the composite had the OSU class, it just seems Barton liked OSU's class better for whatever reason. Maybe it doesn't just come down to the actual scores but what his opinion on each individual recruit happened to be or possibly he ended up seeing a lot of the kids that turned out to commit to OSU in the end so he knows OSU's class a lot better.
Bama lost 13 starters in 2011 and won the BCSCG in 2012.
Michigan fans are so jealous of Ohio State right now it is unreal.
Ok. Like I said, I am not trying to troll you. The game is going to be a battle going forward imo, Michigan won a close game 2 years ago at home, OSU won a close game last year at home. I don't see them dominating the conference on their own. JC and Wiltfong have been telling us Michigan fans that the calvary is coming and it looks to be true. Outsiders watching practice gush about the talent in Ann Arbor, but add that it is young still.
Yeah, that is what most would read into that.
Have you seen Alabama's commitment list? We have 18 recruits from 13 states. You guys have more recruits from more states than that? No one is recruiting more nationwide than Alabama is right now.
2009, 2011, 2012 Champs
I get it. That's fair. I wasn't really trying to paint it the way you took it. I fully believe that Michigan is bringing in the same caliber of talent as OSU. I was just using OSU because of the momentum of last season and Meyer's track record.
Coming into a Ohio State vs SEC thread arguing how you should be listed as us, and how we suck. Sounds like it to me.
Barton.. if you're not with em.. you're against em... Love UM mad... BBW's en route no doubt
OSU doesn't suck, they maybe one of the best teams in the nation. But yeah, that is what most would read into that.
Meyer I get, and is totally deserved.
