Do you guys have any idea what the final number on the table that was given to Kelly by Phil Knight was? I'm just curious how high he was willing to go. I have a feeling that deep down, Knight always knew that eventually Kelly was going to bolt for the NFL and maybe wasn't going to get roped in year after year after year.
Still kind of curious how bad he fought to keep him out of the NFL for at least this season before the possible sanctions hit. I'm not saying you guys are going to get hit either. Note that I said POSSIBLE sanctions.
I haven't heard a firm number but I'm sure it was not too far off of what the eagles gave him.
I was just curious. I figured that maybe Phil Knight just said that he wasn't going to do this dance with Kelly every year and thought Helfrich could be just as good. Time will certainly tell with that. I'm sure that UO would have loved to keep him, but Kelly made it pretty well known that he was eventually going pro.
Yeah it was just a matter of time for him to leave. The big tell with Helfrich is going to be the recruiting because as of right now it is looking like shit this year. With what looks like a few more to jump ship later this week. O well
I just watched College Football Live and they were claiming Helfrich has kept on to all your commits to this point. Of course ESPN and those guys don't know dick and I don't know enough about your recruiting class to know who is wavering at this point.
I didn't want to start a new thread. But could you Oregon guys fill me in on Dontre Wilson? I know he's visiting this weekend. Are you guys hearing anything positive/negative on your side? Any help would be appreciated.
And I shall rejoice in victory for another 365 days over That School Up North.
He's always said he'd be a duck unless coach Campbell (RB coach) left. Helfrich is keeping every assistant except the DL coach, so ducks are cautiously optimistic about Dontre. All that could change with a visit to tOSU though.
Did the DL coach follow Kelly to Philly? Also, has he named a DC for the Eagles yet. I've forgotten completely about that little wrinkle and how it affected us with Smart. I would have heard if Smart got the job so good for us on that one I guess.
Honestly at this point I'd say its pretty close to 50-50 Oregon and tOSU, before Kelly left he was a SOLID commit despite all the rumors to the contrary. All 7 Oregon coaches are supposed to be visiting Dontre tomorrow along with Daeshon Hall and DeMarcus Ayers. Ideally, we'd like to hear that he cancels his visit to OSU and re-solidifies to Oregon but would be not surprised to see him take a trip to Columbus still.
The way Dontre would be utilized within the offense and the system itself isn't going to change in any noticeable way under Helfrich.

I've heard that the rumor about Phil Knight attempting to write a check to keep Chip from leaving initially is not true.

I haven't heard that at all but I'm not as wired into your program as you fellas are for sure. Thing about a rumor like that is that it's just too easy and vague to really be true. Anyone could pull that out of their a$$es.
When Chip stayed, word on our end was that Phil had wrote him a check. When Chip left, word on our end was it was because Phil and UO wouldn't write him a check. Definitely no firm number either way.
Believe what you want. Here say on both ends, who knows what's true.
As for Dontre, I am optimistic, but would only put us at 60% with OSU at 40%. Now if you guys offer Carrington though you may get him.
