I would say in $1,000 increments. That gives them a small cushion on some of the expenses coming up. We raise $5,000 247sports will directly help 5 families.
We aren't world savers here. We can't help 28 families. That is unrealistic to even think.
Its just shady sending donations like this to third parties and just trusting it gets to where you intended it to go. That is why TMB does their toy drive the way they do it. Someone personally hands all toys to St. Jude. That same person also does special requests to certain children. One of the guys got a little boy an Alabama jersey, hat, and football. The boy took a picture in his new outfit and ball, and it was the most precious picture I had ever seen.
We can set up a 247sports Donation Fund and let a willing Staff member handle tBB Paypal.. Or a trusted member here.. The key though, like I think you meant, is finding someone in Conn. that will handle where and to whom the money we donate ends up in the right hands.
Danielle Hunter, Jamario Rasco, Anthony FREAK Johnson.. DL wrecking crew of 2013.
Also, we should find the Single Mother/Father or people that would need the most help with Funeral Funds, Therapy and all kinds of other expenses.
Or did you guys want to Randomly select the Families? I pray no one had 2 of their kids gunned down, if so, they would be on the top of the list.
That's the only kicker. How the money gets from the bank/paypal to the hands of who its intended to go to. I don't think Connecticut is represented on tBB. Could be wrong on that. It may be easier to write some sort of check, and mail it to the families. That way it goes straight to their mailbox. Put it in a Hallmark card
Setup a Paypal, get the 5 or however many we end up helping, get in contact with them or setup a way to pay directly from Paypal to them.
Just brainstorming here though.
Should be easy with all the posters on here. I'm in for at least 300. There are a few others that have said they will put in a good amount as well, a couple that said they will put up to 1k. You put us along with 10 or 20 bucks here and there and I think 247 could honestly put up a big pot for these families.
I also agree with MM. We shouldn't be expected to go crazy and save everyone. Just do our little part. Hopefully there are other people on boards doing the same thing that we are at this point. Every little bit helps but we can't avoid our own bills.

Yup.. That's a major issue and why we should take a few days to get everything right.. Give those people time to grieve man.
That is why I think it may be best to do it by mail. Get the donations into the pot, I believe there is some sort of paypal checks you can print out. You can get the addresses of the families fairly easy. Give them some time to grieve, lets have our donation period, and then mail them. They open up their mailbox, open up a Hallmark card and there is the 247sports donation. They don't get bothered, Don't have to contact anyone... Just mail it.
Again, just an idea. I'm down for whatever, as I'm not going to be the pot holder.
Yeah that sounds good.. We're just going to Brainstorm for most of tomorrow when we can get some fresh minds in this thread. Give it another day to figure out what we want to do but so far, this is a great idea.
I'll be anxious to wake up in the morning to any other ideas. A lot of different ways to do it. Some easier than others. I just hope the turnout is good. I know its close to Christmas time, and people have their own bills/problems, but hopefully its a good turnout. I say we finalize the plan tomorrow, post the plan on the team sites on Sunday, and then start the donation period Sunday evening. The donation period can go on for however long we like, so its not like we are rushing anything.
I'm going to sleep fellas. Let's just make sure that we stay on top of this and get it all figured out how we want to do it sooner than later. I agree with others that we need to give it a few days and let the families grieve, but that gives us all a chance to nail this process down.
Later man.. Thanks for helping out. We'll discuss some more Saturday for sure. Take it easy bro
The saddest thing I saw out of all of this was an interview of a girl who went to the school. The way she was talking you could tell she wasn't old enough to grasp what hat happened. Hopefully enough of them are too young for this to have a serious impact on their childhoods.

I think it may be best to let things settle down for a bit for a couple days. They will be overwhelmed with support. We can get the paypal account setup and donations going while we settle how and when we will hand off our donation.
I'm in for whenever you guys get something set up.
I think we should go ahead and setup the Paypal account. Leave it open for a week or two and use that time to figure out how best to use the money to help the families.
Hey guys i have found this https://newtown.uwwesternct.org/. I don't know if yal are wanting to do our own thing or if this would be acceptable to everyone but this is suppose to go to the families. We could do our Paypal idea and then send it to this fund,

This^ and I'm in. Will have to wait till I get paid on Thursday but will chip in a little. Wish I could throw down a G but got some serious out of pocket medical bills breaking the bank acct but will add what I can. Well done lesticals
My only concern with that is we maybe intruding on the families grief.
We are giving it time and not sending it tomorrow or anything. Call me crazy, but I don't see a family getting pissed about receiving a few grand from a group that says they are sorry for their situation.
Count me in when you decide what you guys want to do.
The average per capita of Newtown is like 90,000 dollars, guys. While I agree that donating to something is a noble idea, I doubt the families need any money, even if it is in the good intentions that you're talking about.
I think any donations would be better used for a charity - for children or maybe promoting mental health support. I dunno, just a thought.
That's a good idea GB, there are probably already multiple charities that could be donated to that are working to cut this sort of thing from happening. Working with children from the start and keeping them moving towards something positive.
Unfortunately, people can snap at any time as we saw here.
I like how someone downvoted me. I was just stating an opinion.
I mean, like I said, I understand where the idea of donating to the families is coming from, but how will they get the money themselves? Unless we can donate directly to their bank accounts, how does the money get sent to the correct place and distributed correctly?
