Do you demand that we stop celebrating Colombus day? The man was known for torturing and killing the natives of the land he "discovered". (I think the statue should be taken down I'm just curious)
Edit for links and quotes:
"Columbus and his men also used the Taino as sex slaves: it was a common reward for Columbus' men for him to present them with local women to rape. As he began exporting Taino as slaves to other parts of the world, the sex-slave trade became an important part of the business, as Columbus wrote to a friend in 1500: "A hundred castellanoes (a Spanish coin) are as easily obtained for a woman as for a farm, and it is very general and there are plenty of dealers who go about looking for girls; those from nine to ten (years old) are now in demand.""
"Other atrocities committed by Columbus and his men were reported by Michele de Cuneo, one of the Spaniards with whom he was traveling. One account tells of how they came upon a canoe and Indians and they attacked them. They thought they had killed one of the Indians and threw him into the water. Upon seeing him begin to swim, they caught him and cut his head with an axe. They later sent the rest of the Indians to Spain. He also gives a relatively descriptive account of his rape of an Indian woman; an act committed with Columbus’s blessing (Wilford 178-9). Columbus apparently believed it was his right to pass the captured women out to his men, and they, in turn, believed they did not need to ask for the women’s consent. As awful as it may be, rape was one of the less violent acts they committed against the Indians"
"Eventually, life for the Taino became so unbearable that, as Pedro de Cordoba wrote to King Ferdinand in a 1517 letter, "As a result of the sufferings and hard labor they endured, the Indians choose and have chosen suicide. Occasionally a hundred have committed mass suicide. The women, exhausted by labor, have shunned conception and childbirth Many, when pregnant, have taken something to abort and have aborted. Others after delivery have killed their children with their own hands, so as not to leave them in such oppressive slavery."

ECU grad, tOSU fan for life. Father since 1/12/13.
It's pissed me off every year. Though, I shouldn't complain given the number of days off due to teacher meetings no one cares about.
No one cares about Indians 500 years ago.
We do care about children being raped while you did nothing. Take my picture down... it can't be on someone who compares Columbus to a disgraceful pos.
That's pretty soulless.... Oh wait....
where itt did i defend joepa? (incase you forgot i didnt)
Using another poster's photo as your avatar: Really, really, really creepy.
I think they should be forced to leave it up, so that they're reminded everyday.
hes also my sig pic
I'd say the raping, pillaging, and murdering of hundreds of Native Americans gets him a reserved seat right next to Joe Pa in hell.
colombus's men raped women with his permission... what say ye ginger?
he must be gay.
ding ding ding we have a rational thinker!!!!
just as racist as the n word, bigot.
not native americans. learn your history
North and South America are known as the "Americas". Someone who already lived anywhere there prior to Columbus's arrival would be a native. Ergo, Native American.
MLK also beat his wife
