So which option is not as bad as the the other to you then ejb5212?--killing natives or raping children?
This post was edited by kris4153 2 years ago
obviously raping women.
Vikings were here 1st anyway.
Did any other schools knowingly turn a blind eye to one of their coaches as he f'd kids in the ass on campus? it looks like Jo and the boys did and that's the only violations that will matter here.
who's to say what is worse? here's what i will say though.... Christopher colombus killed people, raped women and sold 9-10 year old girls as "sex slaves".... Joe Paterno did not rape children.... So if you're keeping score at home, Paterno allowed child rape to occur while Christopher colombus made money by selling children to be raped, raped women and murdered people.... i just don't understand how people can be so up in arms about the statue but can read the links i've provided and not be disgusted that there is a national holiday for christopher colombus...

“If you remember me, then I don't care if everyone else forgets.” ― Haruki Murakami
The IRS doesn't punish murderers who pay their taxes. You seem to be slow so i'll make the comparison for you. In this case The IRS = The NCAA, and PSU = the murderer who pays their taxes.... see Murder is a crime, if you commit murder you are going to be punished by the justice system, since the murderer followed all the rules of the IRS the IRS won't punish him. in this case PSU officials commited crimes, but did not break a single NCAA rule.... so what logical conclusion can you draw from this?
Answer this: Why didn't PSU notify the proper authorities and fire Sandusky?
The only conclusion I draw from this thread is that you enjoy defending pedos.
That is a complete and utter falsehood. Created by racists to try to attack King. NOBODY ever said he did who would have any information pertaining to that and Coretta Scott King has never implied she was ever abused.
Do not spread lies you have no knowledge of. Its just feeding 50 year old racist lore.
What the holy hell does one thing have to do with another?
This is the most idiotic trolling technique I have ever seen.
according to louis freeh it was to protect the university from bad press. IMO that is the best conclusion we can make unless Curley, Schultz or Spanier actually confess and admit their motives/other evidence comes out... I fucking pray that they go on the record about this because i really want to know the truth and not somebodies opinion (and thats what the freeh report is, a factually based opinion)
they have nothing to so with each other... its just my curiosity...... why are people so disgusted with psu maybe keeping the statue of somebody who enabled child rape, yet do not seem to care that there is a NATIONAL HOLIDAY for a man who profited from child rape.... And I'm not trolling, trolling is effing stupid I just see a double standard and am a psu student so i want to see why people are so against child rape at psu yet are ok with a man who made money off child rape having his own national holiday
Well there is the old axiom about determining the truth. If you eliminate all the other reasons, whatever is remaining is the only possible choice.
So what possible reasons can any of you give for why Paterno, and company were not reporting Sandusky, in the numerous times they knew about him buggering kids?
They thought it was okay that Sandusky did this?
They thought that Sandusky was only pretending to rape kids, so there was no real crime?
They were concerned about how it would affect Penn State, and their own cushy jobs?
What other reasons can anyone come up with? If you eliminate options one and two, you are only left with the conclusions of the report.
you're close minded then..... Jerry sandusky is a pedophile and if i was legally allowed to i would end his life.... if you think that is defense you're obivously a Big 12 fan
It is saddening that you have to go back 500 years with some really poor reporting on what happened to come up with a comparison that you felt was worthy of what Paterno and company did.
The DIFFERENCE is, that 500 years ago, the actions of Columbus and company were accepted in the societies they came from. It is only the intervening 500 hundred years of societal changes in ethics that allow us to make these long after the fact judgements.
What Paterno and company did is wrong NOW...was wrong THEN and will be considered wrong for as long as our particular society exists. There is no lag time, or judgement of history with "enlightened" ideas. This is RIGHT NOW.
Get it? Comparing Paterno to Columbus is plain idiotic. It shows a real lack of critical thinking.
answer me one question please.... If what Colombus did (Rape/Murder) was so accpeted, why did the Spanish strip him of his role as governor of hispniola and imprison him?
It is an ENTIRELY different subject.
Why the holy hell are you talking about Columbus and Joe Paterno? They have ZERO in common....ZERO. (Well except they are both Italian)
Either you are trolling or you are really this stupid about stuff like this. I cannot believe a college student would think THIS is a good argument.
"Well Columbus got a holiday, and he mistreated Indians...so Paternos statue should stay.
Are you four years old? Little Joey gets to have only chocolate bars for breakfast, so YOU should get chocolate bars for breakfast as well?
Can you please come up with a contemporary comparison? Or at least one that happened AFTER there was a United States of America?
dude, please read my OP.... I THINK THE STATUE SHOULD BE TORN DOWN
Answer this question: knowing that christopher colombus made money selling children to be raped and murdered people for shits and gigs does he deserve a national holiday?
Ummm...why are you framing this question in a thread you started about Joe Paterno?
What does Joe Paterno have to do with Christopher Columbus?
That is where you lost it. Instead of just asking about Christopher Columbus, you tried to tie them together ethically.
Well the football program is part of the university and Joe Pa (the head FOOTBALL coach) was heavily involved in the decision making. What's to say that Freeh's opinion is not factual in some cases? He was the head of the FBI at one time, which is pretty impressive and hard not to take into account when basing the validity of his report. I doubt he would come up with erroneous statements. Freeh collected data to come to conclusions and obviously more date was pointing in a cover up including Joe Pa than otherwise depicted.
Plus Freeh is the least of your worries now... Its Mark Emmert and he is quoted as saying:
"This is as systemic a cultural problem as it is a football problem. There have been people that said this wasn’t a football scandal,” Emmert
PSU is screwed and the statue of a man known as Joe Pa, the one that helped cover up a university problem about a sexual predator, is embarrassing.
it's a yes or no question..... i'll ask it again..... knowing that christopher colombus made money selling children to be raped and murdered people for shits and gigs does he deserve a national holiday?
Emmert also said that he would punish us for any NCAA rules that we broke.... go read the rulebook and tell me how many rules we broke, i'll give you a clue, it's <1
Your's is a red herring. A fallacy. Divert, divert, divert!
No its not..its a "When did you stop beating your wife" question.
Why bring Joe Paterno into it at all? Why compare a statue of a disgraced football coach with a 15th century explorer?
By the way, the question has been answered in the last 30 years...as Columbus day has lost a lot of the luster it had in this nations past. As others have pointed out, most business's and schools do not recognize it. I never had it off, and I am a lot older than you. So society as a whole has been tearing down the metaphoric Columbus statue for a few decades now. If you were older, you would have seen how muted and unrecognized the 1992 "celebrations" of Columbus were....those would have been much bigger earlier in this nations history.
The thing that Columbus day is SUPPOSED to celebrate is the founding of the new world. NOT Columbus himself. It is the use of Columbus's name in it that opens the man himself to this sort of scrutiny.
