3. O Brien
We are college football
This will go well.
Agree with 1-8 and don't know enough about the other coaches to make an accurate list til

I think Fitz might be higher. Putting together ok classes with some of the major things working against him at NW is more impressive than some of the others who have a lot more tradition and lower academic standards. Granted, many of the schools are not in a fertile recruiting area like Illinois, but still, I'd take Fitz over some of the others purely from a recruiting standpoint.
Dont know much about most of them but Brady Hoke is doing good this year, but lets wait until Ohio State and Urban Meyer get out of these sanctions. I think Urban is the best recruiter in the league simply because of his time in the SEC and the great job he did at UF.
Damn Strong Football Team
Because one class that isn't even finished you're putting Hoke ahead of Meyer
Don't have much to complain about.
I agree. Fitzgerald's recruiting and on-field achievements are well above where any Northwestern coach should be. It's not like UM where you could be the biggest doofus of a coach and still pull in top 20 classes after disastrous seasons. UM essentially recruits itself. Getting average talent to Northwestern is a hell of an accomplishment.
For me, I guess it depends on your point of focus. If you are focusing solely on stars, I would say the OP had it right, or at least I can't argue with it.
If you focus on recruiting players that fit your system, and get the job done, I would put Beilema and Dantonio #1 and #2. It would be tough for me to rank Hoke based on that criteria, because he has only coached one year. Urban, based on his years at Florida would have to be up near the top.
I think 3-4 years down the road, Hoke and Urban will still probably be #1 and #2, but I think Dantonio especially, and maybe Beliema would be making real strong pushes in terms of overall stars.

Honestly, if O'Brien can hang onto Hack and Breneman with the shit that PSU is going through, then they have a good argument for 1 or 2. I'm not sure if anybody can recruit with those sanctions.
This is Michigan, fergodsakes.
He hasn't been as good as Hoke in Columbus though.
Last year he took a below average OSU class and finished in the top 5 in the country in the matter of six weeks. This year he has another top 10 class going, and the man hasn't even coached a game yet(and we're under sanctions). What exactly do you want from the man?
Hoke is in his second year though, and Urban is still pulling in a Top 10 class with postseason bans and everything in his first year. i'm not trying to knock on Hoke because I think he is great, but Urban will be a force soon enough. Already is really.
2012 Hoke 7 Urban 4
2013 Hoke 2 Urban 10
Urban will likely fall out of the top 10 because he is in so little 4/5 stars still. It's all a matter of opinion.
Lol ok man whatever you say. Repost this thread in about five years and we will see.
OBRien certainly is a great recruiter so far. We'll see now he does though a season.
Hoke isn't the best recruiter on his own staff.
Anyones list with Urban not being first is just being a homer, and I don't even like the guy.

You should prepare yourself to live with the consequences of your decisions, whatever they may be.
it seems like mattinson is the better recruiter for UM.
Get a top 5 class. I can't consider the man the best in the Big Ten when he's in danger of falling outside the top 10.
Pure name recognition. Look at what Hoke's done at Michigan vs. Urban at Ohio. 2012 Hoke # 7 Meyer # 4 2013 Hoke # 2 Meyer # 10
tough to do with limited scholly's, and its not even august yet. i'd say you should wait till february to judge tOSU's class.
Yes, but both teams are pretty much done with their classes. Unless Urban oversigns, he's going to be nowhere near Hoke.
No, pure history recognition. Look at the man's body of work over the years. It's not even close. You guys have a good one, and I hope your rivalry gets to where it should be again with these two guys, but Hoke is not there yet.
