But their Presidential nominee is trying to label the 19 year old as a "enemy combatant"
GOP senators, McCain, Graham, and McCual all want the 19 year old kept away from civilian courts so they gain the ability to use unlimited interrogations and detention.
No terrorist group or nation has claimed responsibility for this so how can they be labeled "enemy combatants"? Who were they fighting for?
This sets a precedent that anyone who murders is a "enemy combatant" and the government can do what ever they want while avoiding trials and justice.
The definition of terrorism is "The use of violence and intimidation in the pursuit of political aims."
Considering they didn't leave any manifestos or videos they weren't fighting for a political/religious goals.
Hell the Gabrielle Gifford's shooter was more of a terrorist then these guys.
From what we know so far they just wanted to kill for the sake of killing, this should make them more like the Sandy Hook shooter than the 9/11 bombers.
Unless the definition has changed to "any follower of Islam that makes a bomb is a terrorist" I don't see how these are guys "enemy combatants".
Now that police have secured the second of two suspects in Monday's Boston Marathon bombing -- who as of Saturday night lay hospitalized in serious condition under heavy guard and apparently in no shape to be interrogated -- the long and meticulous process of examining motives, methods and possible links begins.
I'm taking a wait and see approach on how this thing is being handled, as I feel a lot of people are running off of emotion when it comes to the case. But I wonder if it is wise to declare him an enemy combatant unless they have intel linking him to a political group of motive for his crime. I am sure 90% or more of people all assume this guy is a terrorist and placed the bomb for jihad purposes. But the American legal system was built to require more than just a widely held assumption. I think using the public safety assumption to question him without reading him his rights was smart though, as long as the questioning was focused. Last thing you want is anything you need for a conviction to get tossed for questioning without reading his rights, but if the questions were about other bombs, other bombers etc it was needed to stop other deaths and would not directly impact hanging the Boston bombing on him.
I don't mind the public safety 48 hour trial.
But whisking away a American citizen into a place where the public will likely never hear anything about his "case" is going to far. Due process is a thing and unless the politicians are making every murderer in the country a "terrorist" I don't see how they can do this.
It won't happen. Dude will have a trial, people are saying things based on emotion.
Why? Why is that too far? More than likely they are part of a terror cell inside the United States. They essentially killed people in the name of Islam. I semi get what you are trying to say but we aren't comparing apples to apples here when you bring up Newtown. The POS were waging war on American people. I think this is pretty obvious.
He shouldnt have a trial. First of all the days of terrorist groups taking credit for a attack are over. They know if theu dont we have a harder tinme getting info.
The failed time square bombing and the assemby attacks this last fall were not claimed and it was harder and took longer for us to gather information.
The only link to why they did this and who trained him is with this kid..why should we give him the right to say nothing?
Its obvious his older brother went to a terror camp. He disappeared for 6 months then after his parents mysteriously left the US to avoid backlash. Also russia informed the fbi hthe brother has terrorist ties
He has only been a citizen for a short time and his partner was not a citizen.
If you are giving aid to a non citizen terrorist what do you expect to happen
If the media wasnt making this political you wouldnt think twice about it.

Agree with N16.
Trying him as an enemy combatant would play directly into the Islamists hands. Their narrative, how they foment hatred, how they recruit, has always been that the US is "waging war on Islam". Which is plainly bullshit. As of now the only flag he's carrying is Islam. If he was tied to Al-Qaeda or any of their sister outfits they would have claimed responsibility. The US is at war with guys named Muhammad, not the prophet. And I can't even see what benefit a trial by military tribunal would have... He's obviously not a criminal mastermind. Whatever intel they need from the prick they will get. He will sing like a canary, regardless.
Sure Lindsey Graham wants this to happen. Because he's a pandering fool. A not insignificant segment of his voting base do actually believe that Jeebus is at war with Islam.

@James & @Coastal
Please be joking. He was a American citizen, more so then the 15 million illegals that reside in our country. If you think he should be whisked away into a CIA detention facility where the citizens of the United States will NEVER find out the answers to this you are a idiot.
That would be trampling over half the bill of rights while setting the precedent that any murderer can be charged as a enemy combatant.
As far as we know right now they didn't have any connections to foreign nations of terrorist cells.
Starting down the path of taking away unalienable rights from certain groups will just let the net widen as the government tests the boundaries of what they can do.
Only poor people like Obama.. FACT
No offense to anyone but it's sooooo true
Danielle Hunter, Jamario Rasco, Anthony FREAK Johnson.. DL wrecking crew of 2013.
So what I am getting here is that some of you think this is just like any random murder like a someone shooting a store clerk during a robbery and has no political/religious/hate america agenda. Lol at the stupidity ITT. It is not important what the Citizens of this country know it is important what the FBI,CIA, any anti terrorist organization can find out from him. If this is a cell and another bomb goes off killing someone in your family and it could have been prevented thru whatever interrogation means possible but wasn't because we took him "to trial" you guys would be pissed and all over the gov't for not doing more.
Don't care, had sex
Haha, don't worry I'm not a Obama supporter and I personally feel like he got voted in just because of his race.
I just hate when people make all encompassing statements like that.
I sit in the middle of the political spectrum and honestly don't have a clue what party I will vote for until I read about the candidates. I just made this thread to off set all of the far right nut jobs. (I hate the far sides of the political spectrum)
Hah, i'm just messing around man. I don't get into the political stuff on this site very often.
But day trading for a living, Obama has done no favors for any of us in the stock market. Had to switch and invest in Solar Energy and crap like that now.
I thought that was the only part of our economy that has had a huge rebound under Obama?
No way.. It's been pretty bad the past few years. Trust me
Sorry, I should have said that I just agreed that he shouldn't be tried as an enemy combatant.
As per usual you found a way to completely destroy a very reasonable point by going too far to the side of stupid.
"No terrorist group or nation has claimed responsibility for this so how can they be labeled "enemy combatants"? Who were they fighting for?"
"Considering they didn't leave any manifestos or videos they weren't fighting for a political/religious goals."
"From what we know so far they just wanted to kill for the sake of killing, this should make them more like the Sandy Hook shooter than the 9/11 bombers."
If only the poors like Obama we'd have a President Romney or McCain. Sheesh almost the entirety of the financial services industry was pro Obama for round 1. And once elected he promptly turned around and shat in Wall Street's mouth
no he didn't
Not even remotely true. Just about every rich person didn't vote Obama.
Anyways, I don't really care enough to debate on this so you guys have fun.
Many of the mega corporate rich voted for Obama because he gives them tax breaks and crushes the small businesses. Small Business Owners and people in industries such as coal and gas/oil were mostly pro Romney for sure

Not debating. Actually just asking where you got this idea. My opinion is anecdotal. I work on Wall Street. I also know that the majority of Silicon Valley is very pro Obama. Silicon Valley where there are more millionaires per square inch than anywhere in the country. Actually, I'd wager that out of the ten richest towns/communities in America 90% voted blue. At least for Obama round 1. No idea if that's correct though.
Yeah. He did. Not policy-wise. He tried, but at the end of the day he knew where his bread is buttered. Not to mention that half his staff consists of Goldman Sachs alums.
I meant in terms of his 'main street' vs 'wall street' populist nonsense.
Incredibly contradictory post is contradictory.
