Rep. Ron Paul, whose maverick presidential bids shook the GOP, said in the wake of this weeks elections that the country has already veered over the fiscal cliff and he sees no chance of righting ship in a country where too many people are dependent on government.

me or Ron Paul?
"People do not want anything cut," he said. "They want all the bailouts to come. They want the Fed to keep printing the money. And they don't believe that we've gone off the cliff or are close to going off the cliff. They think we can patch it over, that we can somehow come up with some magic solution. But you can't have a budgetary solution if you don't change what the role of government should be. As long as you think we have to police the world and run this welfare state, all we are going to argue about is who will get the loot."
Was just about to post this, bastard.
Article is right on the money.
This problem started waaay before this election but it's so true.
Romney loss, however, had nothing to do with handouts since romney will not cut the budget either.
The handouts in general need to be limited. Also, illegal people should not receive any benefits.
Military spending is the more ridiculous. Pisses me off that you can be a nurse or policeman in military but that won't qualify u as a civilian.
What are your thoughts about illegals getting benefits?
Dont like it. Tax them. I'm not huge on any foreign aid. Not huge on war spending.
Can't say you r serious about cutting fidgeting without looking at military
You do realize the money will run out at some time. Paul is right and you see the stock market responding this week. The only hope is for a grand bargain and if they try to kick it down the road, it will get ugly. The Fed can no longer save the market bc QE3 only last 1 month.
My son's message to Obama, Clemson, and Georgia
I feel that out military should always be top notch. It is very important. Im sure cuts could be made everywhere. No money to illegals would be a easy start IMO.
It seems easy to me. If you are not a legal citizen then your paperwork goes in the trash.
One interesting thing I saw was the US spent 62k per family under the poverty line last year. Can we just hand them 40k and call it a day and save 22k a family. Just cut out the government crap and it would be a lot easier. I am not for hand outs but If we can save 35.4%, it is a start.
I feel military is important. No doubt there could be changes.
BLF, I actually agree with you. I do think it takes a lot of cuts on the budget, including military and entitlements. I am ok with raising some taxes as long as there are cuts to go along with it.
BLF, the thing I am most concerned about is Generation x is going to get screwed in Social Security and Medicare. Since I save a good bit in IRA's and 401ks, they are going to means test all benefits. I have paid a heck of alot of money into the programs, maxing it out every year for the last 10 years. What is wrong with moving SSI to 69 or 70? the Dems refuse to do it for people who are 35 or so right now. Just crazy. I would agree there are stupid things the Pubs refuse to give on as well.
SS trust fund can only invest in Government bonds so right now they are getting 1.7% on a 10 year bond. What else would Dem's let it invest in? Just wondering.
Single payer will be horrible. I know you are for it but Health Care should not be guaranteed. The problem if the US goes to a single payer, all innovation will stop because people are greedy (I am one of them) and will expect a return on investments. Government sucks at investments. Look at all the solar panel companies that have failed.
Tax code wise, I am in favor of leveling the field and the government not picking winners and loser ie banks and energy companies and et al
BFL, what is governments function? I think it is what it says in the founding documents, life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. Government should not be subsiding anything. Internet seems to be doing great. I know it came from Al Gore but it really came from Colleges and then handed over to private groups to run with. Look at natural gas right now. Government is not helping much at all but they are producing more today than ever before. I just don't think government should invest in businesses or tax credits for businesses to do xyz
So you don't bother to read the article but have no problem proclaiming "butthurt" based on title alone. Why am I not surprised...
Scored 4 touchdowns...in a single game. Polk High!
aaaaaand you fall for the troll again..................
I guess Shane thinks Yeldon will flip to Bama after he enrolls at Auburn. Brilliant. Sell those subscriptions, BOL.” - TIGER
Did you get a reprieve? I thought you were on a long-term ban after that landslide?
As someone who has been an active duty submarine officer and am currently deployed with the NG as an Engineer in Afghanistan, I can say that he military is adaptable and not truly antiquated. Most things in the military serve a purpose.
I will say that our budget, accounting and logisitics could use some serious "Office Space - Bob" treatment. The same can be said for all federal agencies.
Best Example - Let's say you have $1M in budget category X and it is August and you have $500K left. The only legal way to spend the money in the time left is to buy toilet paper (which you don't need). You will end up with a warehouse full of TP so that you spend all of your budget b/c if you don't your funds expire and your budget is cut the following year. Thus no budget in gov't ever goes down (without a lot of pain and effort). This is a large reason why you have growing budgets and warehouses full of wasted tax payer dollars (plenty of they here right now).
