I can dig it as a Raps fan.
Gay isn't great, and is overpaid. But he's still a pretty good 3 in this league who can play defense at times, and can stretch the floor.
Ed Davis numbers have been good, but he's still too weak and not a good enough defender to ever be a good pro IMO. He's not a starter or even play a role on a contender IMO.
Calderon is a good player though. Despite his defense he gets it done at PG. He could be a good player off the bench, or as a veteran starter on Detroit. He can shoot the ball decently and gets guys their shots.
So everybody involved got nothing, except Memphis by unloading a huge contract..
Without self-knowledge there is no individuality
Pistons turned a 2 year bad contract into an expiring contract.

Damn that's the end of his career because once they trade you to the Raptors it's over.
I figured that was the whole purpose. They must be planning on making a run at couple free agents this off season..
Dumars has about 1 more year to turn this thing around or Gores is going to can him. This might work out, it might not, but Dumars had to do something.
Might not be a bad thing if they do get rid of Joe...
Calderon is a decent piece.
If Drummond, Monroe, and Knight progress like they should the Pistons will have a real nice core.
Drummond has Dwight like potential IMO. Monroe is a rock solid PF, who can pass, rebound, and has a decent low post game. And Knight can score, plus he is a pure outside shooter IMO, and has shown ability in college to be big late.
I still think Detroit needs a pure PG (heck, Trey Burke mid-first round maybe?), and an athletic SF who can stretch the floor. But they have some pieces to be a heck of a team IMO.
Drummond was an absolute steal. All I can do is at the Raps passing on him.
Vince Carter had the Raps as a good team when he actually cared. He was also an NBA superstar.
Raptors need another GM that is for sure. Colangelo is terrible, he overpays average talent on the regular.
Derozan 10 M, Amir Johnson 8 M, Bargnani 11 M, Landry Field 7 M, Calderon 10 M (until now).
His track record is so sad. The franchise is rich as hell, wish they would just pay top dollar for a top executive. Toronto is a great city, they just need the right guy running the franchise.
As a Grizzlies fan I was happy to get rid of Gay and now the offense can run through the best players on the team.
Prince is a veteran piece that can help spread the floor and know some outside shots.
What is Memphis doing? They had already cleared the tax
Exactly. I thought that was the reason they didn't sign Mayo and traded Speights.
Yh he's terrible none of those guys deserve that money with the exception of Bargnani.
Getting rid of an overpaid player who isn't vital to their success IMO.
They don't need Gay to be a good team. I think Gay could be a nice piece for the Raps though.
I know you guys will probably laugh but the Raps are going to make a run at Brandon Jennings.
He's tight with Amir Johnson and Demar Derozan, and rumor has it he loves Toronto.
If they could somehow land Jennings they would have some nice pieces.
Coach Hollins did not like Mayo as did every other backup PG that has been in Memphis the past few years.
Don't think he deserves it either. He would be a good piece on a already elite team. But for the role the Raptors have him in, he is terrible.
New ownership who are all BIG in advanced statistics, heck they hired John Hollinger.
A C or a PF who has perimeter shooting ability like Bargnani deserve that money but I agree he would be great on a elite team.
They need to trade him for Gasol, Bargnani would fit perfect in that offense.
And Gasol is exactly what the Raptors need.
Sadly it will never happen.
No one should laugh. I don't think he can really make a team better though, but he's fun to watch. In order for them to improve and compete they need to hire a good coach and have franchise player fall in lap through the draft. A center or power forward would be a nice start..
Rudy Gay plus Landry Fields plus DeMar DeRozan plus Terrence ross plus Linas Kleiza is over $96 million over five years.Over 56.7 over 2.
Shoulda taken Drummond.
Completely agree with this. Dumars making some bold free agent move now would be incredibly stupid but not suprising given his previous decisions. The pistons have a good foundation, they need a couple more pieces but they have to realize its a process.
I don't know what the raptors are doing honestly. Gay isn't going to make any significant difference, and he'll just add a ton of payroll for 2 years then bolt. Colangelo may be the worst GM in the NBA.
