Had to happen eventually.
At least we are probably still the only 2 people on this board to have been to a football game in Berkeley......minus maybe the USC fans.
Ya I was just making shot up and didnt really have a good comeback. Except Miami will be much improved team since last year.
No I did not lose a sig bet, but I am really really really ridiculously good looking.
Easy with those verbal daggers.
I think you are confusing the issues.
Ultimately you're probably right, but here's how I'm looking at it.
Unless you've had serious head trauma no one is forgetting how the NCAA rolls. The media certainly isn't forgetting. And that matters.
Donna's move wasn't hip shooting imo. It was calculated. She was saying, "Our cards are on the table. We're guilty as shit. But please, feel free to fvck with us. You're vulnerable right now and we're 100% ready to climb all the way up your ass." The risk wasn't that great imo. I mean what do they have to lose? They're already all in. May as well play the aces they were dealt.
Nothing lasts forever. The NCAA is living on borrowed time imo
I'm open to that probability. What am I confusing?
Would be surprised if there are any SC fans on here (that went to SC) that haven't been to Memorial. SC/CAL is THE road trip game since forever.
Yep....he has been shady forever. Needs to step down from his position
Pretty much nailed it.
Why should we have to go to class if we came here to play FOOTBALL, we ain't come to play SCHOOL, classes are POINTLESS
What exactly is "the denial" that you are talking about? And how does it relate to the "cultural issues" that Nova is proclaiming?
The denial is denying that a whole lot more people than "a few" aren't psychotic Joe Pa apologists.
The cultural issues are simple. The dude was a fvcking football coach. You raised him to deity level. He WAS PSU. He was PSU's identity. After the fall PSU's identity is now... Pedophilia.
Why? Because your football coach was your identity. That was the problem. That said, he is also the reason PSU isn't a glorified community college. Live by the sword die by the sword I suppose.
no kidding, another fan who has a program that is under the microscope who is praying times change
Color me totally shocked ( sarcasm )
fsufsu said... I've got about 10 great stories on Lane but all you need to know is he will never be a loser, that's for sure.
The guy who replaces him will be no different
Whoever sits in that chair is nothing more than a puppet for the NCAA and then the scapegoat when shit hits the fan
PSU was admitted as an AAU school (a status given to the top research schools in the US and Canada) in 1958, 8 years before Joe became head coach. Try again on the community college thing though.
"The 60 AAU universities in the United States award more than one-half of all U.S. doctoral degrees and 55 percent of those in the sciences and engineering."
1) Who denied that many PSU people support Paterno?
2) YOU (the public) raised him to deity level. Don't act like only in State College did people hold Paterno in high regard.
3) Penn State is rated the #1 school by corporate recruiters. It's all about educating students to get jobs, is it not? Was that because of Paterno?? Were corporate recruiters drawn to PSU because of a football coach? Was the Navy willing to dole out a $800 million contract after the scandal because Joe coached here? As shav said, the AAU added PSU before Paterno was HC.
The funny thing about you is that you accuse PSU fans of placing Paterno on a pedestal and then turn right around and say that PSU would be equivalent to a community college without him. Don't you see how those two messages are conflicting? Don't you see how silly that is and how the 2nd part besmirches all the amazing work that the faculty and students have done over the years? What a joke.

It's not just wishful thinking though. The NCAA's position is untenable. They are an anachronism.
They are on the wrong side of progress. It may be a gradual unwind (over years) but they are done.
I think I have to agree. They are all corrupt.
The AAU card? Stop. I didn't say PSU was that garbage. I was just being hyperbolic.
University of Arizona is on there too. UA grads can write their own ticket!
At the time when PSU was admitted, before Joe, the schools on the list:
Brown, Caltech, Columbia, Cornell, Duke, Harvard, Indiana, Johns Hopkins, MIT, McGill (Canadian Harvard), NYU, Northwestern, Ohio St, Princeton, Stanford, Berkeley, U Chicago, Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, UNC, Penn, Rochester, Texas, Toronto, UVA, Washington, Wisconsin, Vandy, Wash U St. Louis, and Yale
That's about as elite of company as you can get with respect to research universities. Obviously the community college thing was a hyperbole, but let's not act like PSU would not be a top notch public university without Joe.

Yeah I just looked at the list. How I cherry picked Arizona just to be a dick.
Pretty solid company actually.
Well now you've gone and ruined the argument
I've lost my mojo. Long day and I'm still in office. Too tired to continue taking a balls-out position on something I don't fully believe...
Yup..The Weekender...alumni train with the band and Song Girls.
Pat Haden would have lost his head if he hadn't gone into the PAC-12 negotiations insisting we play the schools up North every year, that and the Notre Dame rivalry played at the end of the season...tradition.
