Did I say people? "Having a object that is designed to kill in the home..."
Guns are designed to kill things easily and efficiently. Knives are designed to cut things. Not sure how you are comparing the two. Frequent argument I see and it's a terrible one.
The knives that are designed to kill (swords) are just as bad as guns.
EDIT: Also you talk about hunting. Then why the fugg are you guys all about handguns? Last I checked a dessert eagle isn't exactly a prime deer hunting weapon.

Well, I'm glad you like your country. I'm ok with mine.
I'd blame the "War on Drugs" before saying its ingrained in our culture.
The stories haven't changed since the day of the shooting when news networks were reporting that only three people had been shot and that Ryan Lanza was the shooter. You can't just create a massive conspiracy without even knowing any of the facts and absolve yourself by adding "just my opinion."
"I have no idea what America should do" (And now that's out of the way I'm just going to strongly opine on chit I know little about.)
Toronto... Uh, a population of over 6 million?
There are many restrictions on who can buy and own weapons in the US.
I've been hunting in Canada several times. In places like Saskatoon EVERYONE is armed to the teeth. Please explain? Christ, I was once held up in Canadian customs for three hours because I did NOT have a firearm. I had shipped everything ahead of me because NY's firearms laws are insane. They're probably even more onerous than Toronto's.
"If you want less people to die, you take away their weapons." Hm. What is... Something Joseph Stalin said? Consider the realm of reality for a moment and imagine what would happen in this country if the government actually tried to take away the weapons of law-abiding citizens. They'd start a goddamn war. It's not going to happen. Not now. Not ever. What you call a "shitty excuse" is called an ethos.
I don't live in the continental US either but we have very strict gun control. We also had a higher per capita murder rate than Jamaica last year, who usually leads the world. Gun related assaults, robberies, etc are also outrageous. I don't feel safe at all and it is illegal for a citizen to carry a gun. But guess who has guns in the islands...criminals.
Toronto's GTA is over 6 mill.
Guns are not a big part of the culture is Canada. Granted I don't travel to terrible cities like Saskatoon, but major cities like Montreal, Toronto etc. don't have many guns.
I am considering the realm of reality, that's why I said I didn't know what America could do. Point is, giving every person arms clearly isn't working out too well for America.
Nobody cares about what is going on in Canada and even if they did, Canada has nothing to do with US problems. They are not the same place and they don't have the same ideas or issues. For example, 80+% of Canada is white, 2.5% is black, 1% is Latin American, and the rest are small mixed groups of different Asians, Arabs, etc.
Canada could actually be a nice, peaceful place to live if it wasn't so damn cold and full of weirdos running around everywhere.
It's not just Canada that has similar gun policies and similar results in terms of gun crime. It's all over the world.
Weather sucks, but it's warmish 6 months of the year. And "weirdos" ? Maybe in the crappy parts of Canada, but Toronto does not have many weirdos walking around.
