U.S. will never drop another nuclear weapon and NK is not going to hit U.S. They act crazy, but they aren't that dumb. U.S. would know within 10 mins if they even fired a weapon of that magnitude and take counteractive measures. We will likely get sucked into battle (if NK did anything) because they attack south korea. We have several thousand troops stationed in SK and it would be a sh!tstorm if NK attacked SK.

They fought with North Korea against the United States during the Korean War.
So there is a previous relationship there.
More recently it has been balance of power politics. Supporting North Korea to keep the US spending billions of dollars on the defense of South Korea, Japan and wink wink "America"
Apparently China hasn't been able to establish any diplomatic channels with Kim Jong-Un, so North Korea may be burning the bridge with China. Which is kind of crazy.
I doubt there is any intention of going to war on North Korea's part. It is their way of legitimizing the "strength" of their new leader.
