There's no mystical energy field that controls my destiny.
Learn Greek, that's your best bet. Even then, the Greek writing didn't use punctuation or spacing and it's going to be 150-300 years post Jesus depending on what you're looking at.
I find your lack of faith disturbing.
Nah. I'll just get someone to translate, and if they find something that doesn't work I'll trust them to find an appropriate metaphor that I'll understand.

Here is why I put Mormons in there. Because its a very recently created religion that has a lot of followers, and it continues to grow. You made the reference to the concept that since Christianity had been around so long, that was some sort of proof that it must be real. When confronted by the idea that Islam has been around about 1400 years, and is just as successful as Christianity, you come up with this theory that every Muslim has been forced to either convert or die. I asked if Mormons were cultists, and you did not answer. Not surprising, since we know the racial makeup of Mormons and you are okay with that aspect of them.
I didnt mention the crusades. The entirety of the South American continent, is majority Christian, more than live in the US. That entire region was "converted" in exactly the way that you claim Muslims do it now.
By the way, if you exclude the Catholic Church from your personal idea of who is Christian, your religion goes from being the largest in the world, to about fifth in worldwide numbers.. If you are only going to let Baptists into your personal heaven, then you are looking at numbers too small to really care about.
In other words, if you take Catholics and Episcopalians and Presbyterians and Lutherans and whoever else you dont think measures up to your personal standards of Christianity, then your entire theory about Christianity being a growing thriving religion becomes bull. The church you are talking about is a speck.....hardly worth noticing. But of course you will greet with open arms the Catholics and others if it means comparing your numbers to Islams.....and then turn around and repudiate those same groups as not actually believing correctly.
What a freaking joke.
The force is strong with this one.
I like Korean Baptists.
You speak as if majority matters one iota to Truth. If Christ was God and came to earth and all flipped him off would the Truth change? Mormons received their "new teaching" from a supposed angel. In Galations Paul says that if this occurs that angel is to be accursed or cast out.
I am not judging Mormons salvifically, that is God's task but their doctrine is poor. They believe God used to be a man and that when we are redeemed we all get galaxies to rule over and we grow into the fullness God is in now. Aka, Demonic teaching.
Me too. I do business with some in Dallas. I've met with them several times and found them to be great people. The dad left Korea about 30 years ago. He converted to Christianity, and was then banished from the house. He and his father never spoke again.
Must have never heard of the Skeptics Annotated Bible.
In memory of Tusks.
If a bunch of people joined the KKK because it helped them politically or socially but they were caught befriending blacks and telling them they're real people just like themselves everyone would say they aren't actually KKK members, they're false converts. Same thing applies.
At times and in places Christianity has benefited people socially or politically, often through the gross agenda of the Catholic church, and at those times people have flooded the church with tragic results.
Nowadays, again this was a major central tenent of why I started the thread, is to address the issue of false conversion in the modern American church. It's sending people to hell and giving Christ a bad name (His name is untarnished but his temporal reputation is hurt). People join the church now because the "cost of discipleship" the book of Luke talks about has been preached by thousands of pastors in America to be "say Christ was God and died for your sins"......and that's it. Nothing could be further from the Truth.
It's very convenient for you that you happened to pick correctly.
You arent paying attention.
The person I was responding to, was trying to use the fact that Christianity has so many converts over so long a period of time as proof that its the real deal. When Islam, which is just as succesful in terms of sheer numbers, was brought up, he then made up some song and dance about a different level of conversion for those people, thereby nullifying what over a billion people believe.
So I brought up Mormons, who have not been around very long, yet have grown at an impressive rate. A number of people on this board who profess their Christian belief heartily are also endorsing a Mormon for president. So are Mormons "better" than Muslims? Islamic teaching has Jesus as a prophet who is revered, but not the son of God. Mormon teaching has Jesus wandering the American continent and sending angels to teach Joseph Smith how to read ancient text from a hat.
So if something as silly as Mormonism can get that many converts in so short a time, why is it impressive that Christianity can get so many converts in such a long period of time?
Everyone thinks they have picked correctly. If everyone is right, Heaven is going to be way too crowded.
I didn't pick.
38,000 sects of christianity and counting. All with their own idea on what the bible "actually" says.
There is nothing worse than judgmental pricks from some podunk sect who think they are the only ones to get it right. Then they run around screaming at the other 99% of the population saying they are going to hell.
Oh look. It happened in this very thread.
How do you know how big Heaven is?
We don't. But I've gotta pretty good hunch that it's decorated horribly.

i totally agree with you
Well excuse me for my ignorance but
- why would you think God doesnt want us to be happy??!?
- when is he not so sure that Christ is th only Way?? examples please
- how does he appease to th flesh??!?
God does not act against our temporal benefit but he in no way guarantees it. Jesus essentially told all his disciples that they would be hated for the gospel, their lives would be defined by them warring against their flesh and placing it into submission of the Spirit, and tought socialism amongst the church that everyone should work hard so they can offer something to the body and to those who have nothing because they've either been robbed because of their faith or because someone doesn't work aside from preaching the gospel. You are ENTRENCHED in a culturally relevant view of the Bible.
Youtube Larry King and Joel Osteen. It's embarrassing. That's one of a number of examples. He is a life coach who name drops Jesus and people flock to hear him. That's how he appeases the flesh. The gospel is a direct affront to the flesh and the unregenerate mind. The lost find Osteen's teachings and feel a warm blanket come over them. Oh God loves me, oh he wants me to have money and temporal happiness over and above that of the eternal, oh I don't have to war against sin because Christ saved me when I wanted Him to despite my life not changing at all. How lovely.
Pretty sure Al Qaieda said that, bro.
Out of all the guys posting in this subject, your arguments are perhaps the worst.
