you guys seem to like Ellis Johnson. He's a candidate for FSU, what could we expect IF he inks? Thank you.
He is a great DC. Always prepared and his players play assignment football. The only thing that bothered me was sometimes the players said his scheme could be difficult. When Coach Ward took over this year he simplified a few things and we got better with busted coverages etc.
He just isn't meant to be a head coach. I think it shocked everyone when he actually took the USM job
If you guys hire him you are getting a great one.

im hoping we take him. all the other candidates listed arent impressive. his defense at USCE was always strong.
he was a good recruiter wasnt he gamecock fans?
FSU Ambassador to the masses
Very good recruiter. He landed Stephon Gilmore, Devonte Holloman, and JD Clowney just to name a few
Super fit all around and he owns clemson. He is more of a box coach and cerebral guy but he is great and he gets along with position coaches and lets them do the one on one teaching. He was great for us, was big with getting gilmore, clowney, etc also.
thats what i thought. him odell haggins and dameyune craig would be a lethal combo
You guys gonna make a run at him?
He is not as aggressive as a play caller and did not blitz a ton. Like the Poster said above, his scheme can get complicated and players can get confused. One thing is he will always be prepared and will put 100% in to recruiting and preparing. He will most likely switch you to a 4-2-5 D bc he likes more speed on D.
My son's message to Obama, Clemson, and Georgia
god i hope so. the other candidates suck, for christ sake they listed brian van gorder and some other insanos are suggesting raheem morris
I just looked at that list. I think Ellis would be good for you guys
I saw where one of your fans posted they want Venables??? Did he see Clemson's defense this year? Lol
That's not in any shape, form, or fashion the actual list. When you are the source of info for a couple thousand subscribers you have to churn out something.
Weren't Gilmore and Clowney pretty much locks for South Carolina since they went to pipeline schools.
yeah especially since we will have to rerecruit everyone at this point. hes got the best pedigree and wont bolt again for quite a while to be a HC
Ummm...not really. Both Gilmore and Holloman were both committed to Clemson early in the recruiting process.
With Clowney, it was pretty much between us and Bama.
I did not know Gilmore was commited to Clemson, because I heard a lot of Gamecock fans calling him and Clowney locks on rivals since they went to schools where y'all got a lot of players
Kiffin was all over Gilmore at UTk as well and was considered the team who could pry him away. Ellis really impressed in that recruitment. Clowney I believe he actually deserves a little less credit for. Some kids you realize on NSD that no one else really ever had a chance, you just thought they did. JC was one of those recruits.
Great coach just doesn't like to recruit
Would be an excellent hire for you guys. He definitely seems to have the gameplan for your current biggest threat in the ACC. As far as Gilmore goes, he didn't briefly commit to clemson even though we thought he was a lock almost the whole time. Caught a lot of people by surprise. Holloman was actually a surprising pull to me from the tigers. Clowney was always thought to be a lock, but with the number 1 player in the country you're getting everyone's best so impressive to land him regardless.
Wouldn't call him an excellent recruiter or anything, but at FSU I don't think they need a DC that loves recruiting. Plenty of talent and kids wanting to go there.

Clowney always leaned to Carolina, but Ellis had to stay on top of his recruitment.
Delta....sorry man but he seemed to enjoy it at Carolina. I don't know what he did at Miss State, but at Carolina he did a helluva job
Selling the old MSU to kids probably took it out of him.

From what Tony Said, Clowney was a silent for about a year or so. He did say whoever who the Bama Carolina Game when we won, that was where he was going to school. He committed several times but his coach at the time did not want him to go public with it for some reason.
Ellis Johnson- many may disagree, but imo he is a top 5 DC nationally. Likes to be physical in practice, is somewhat grumpy sometimes when talking about his defense, and recruited pretty well(albeit a small footprint of area).
As mentioned earlier, he will probably switch your D to a 4-2-5. The guy did well everywhere he's been as a DC, but never succeeded as a HC. Most importantly, he knows how to own Clemson. Ironic given his past with Clemson.
Bottom line: you guys would be happy with his results.
This is accurate. There's some misinformation ITT. He really only had Rock Hill as a recruiting territoy because he has a lot of old school connections in SC. Lorenzo Ward had to close Clowney.
He's pretty much a glass half empty guy to a fault. He'd be dominant with y'all's D talent but only if you have a cerebral/captain type guy in the secondary, otherwise they'll look lost at times.
Also, he'll act like someone shot his dog every time you beat Clemson, particularly in Clemson.
Lorenzo Ward was not the only one to close on Clowney.
