Everybody else outside of FSU has a chance IMO
I think Indiana is on the verge of breaking out and winning some games. Not saying they will win the conference each year but maybe on a down year (if that's possible with Meyer at OSU) they could sneak in. Their offense is fine and they recruited really well on the defensive side of the ball
mkillian247 on twitter..... I say a lot of stuff you wont care about.
I am not as optimistic on Hoosier football, but I do think if you are right about the defense, the offense is solid enough to win some games.
Also, with the B1G being what it is right now with only one team, anyone has a chance if they can get by tOSU.
B1G football may be worse than SEC basketball right now.
adding tOSU in years a SEC team makes it to the game as well before Buck flock jump in.
You're talking about needing help....
Bama needed help to win its last two NC.
If Okie st would have not lost to Iowa St Alabama would not have played for the NC.
If tOSU was not on probation or Stanford beating Oregon Alabama would have not played for the NC. You gave to be good to play for the NC bit you also "need help" also.
Do I would not throw Miles under the bus like that.
He's not completely off base...although I do think he is selling aTm short at the moment.
Big difference between USCe and UGA is that UGA needs a coach that can get it done and USCe has their coach and still can't get it done.
I think LSU would benefit from Miles being thrown under a bus....literally.
Big difference between a one loss team getting in, which happens just about every year and what happened in 2007 IMO.
Besides, if Bama doesn't get in the game in the '11 season, that LSU team still loses to either Okie St or Stanford, IMO with the issues they had.
Michigan, Nebraska, and tOSU have won one in the 20 year time frame given. PSU has been a sleeping giant under jopa and could make a quick recovery after the scholarship limits are lifted. Those schools can recruit well enough to win a MNC. The rest of the schools don't do that consistently enough. Wisconsin was on the verge.
Will Wilson jump if he puts a couple of good seasons together though? Agreed though, the last class was solid for Indiana with a solid offense already in place.
I don't think Wilson being able to jump to another tier job would be a bad thing for IU. Of course they would have to replace him, but if he can put together 2 or 3 bowl teams together at IU, it puts them in a better position for the future and could bring in a better caliber coach the next time around than what they would normally be able to get.
At programs like IU, Ole Miss, and others that struggle to become consistant bowl teams, I think the goal is to hire the right up and coming coach to put you program on or back on the map in some cases, let them use your school as a stepping stone and then get the right guy after that and let them capitalize on the momentum.
I think in today's world of such lucrative contracts at the major programs, it's the way that the mid-level BCS programs have to do it these days.
It is the way, because it has to be. Stability is huge though, and I don't think there it is easy for the next coaches to just win. Michigan fans thought it was simple transition from Carr to Richrod. Bama had it's down years with Shula and DuBose. Look at Tennessee after Fulmer left. USCw with Kiffen. ND for years...
Iowa has decided they are better off then to recruit the state of FL.... No chance they sniff anything but the ass of the B1G until A.) Ferentz is gone or B.) Ferentz wakes up from his coma and realizes his recruiting strategy is suicidal... Everyone in the B1G w/ exception to OSU and scUM are my choices here, you don't win NC with 3-4 loss seasons and none of the other squads in the conference are likely to be fortunate to put together a solid enough season...
I agree, but it has to be the way for a program like IU. You just have to hope that they players that Wilson will have brought in are good enough to win for a couple of years to show that the new guy can be as successful if not more.
Somehow programs like Oregon spring up every decade or so from nothing to become contenders. Of course, IU doesn't have a Phil Knight sitting around either.
The B1G is a conference that a new team could pop in though. Penn St is mired in their issues, Wisconsin is kind of an unknown again, Michigan St is at a crossroads, and even Michigan isn't where they want to be, although I do think they are closer than they were with Richrod obviously. Moving on in the post-Denard era at Michigan is really the start of Hoke's tenure, IMO and we will really get to see over the next 2 or 3 years what himself and Borges were brought in to do. I guess what I am saying is that there are a lot of average teams right now and you have to think that 2 of them, along with tOSU have to step up.
I would think that it would be tOSU, Michigan, and then either Nebraska or Wisonsin, but really anything could happen right now.
IU just needs to put the money in the football staff like they do for basketball. Crean is making almost double what Wilson is making. They have they facilities to compete with the rest of the conference (just spent an insane Amount of money a few years ago on the stadium and weight room. The good thing is with Glass (AD) he isn't shunning football like the pervious ones did.
IU is comparable to UK, or Duke... football will never trump Bball, IU will at some point be a bowl contender again, maybe as soon as next year, looking at the sched its possible. 5-6 win season at best.
We may indeed not win it in the next 20 years, but I can tell you when we did make it in the last 3 years, at least we didn't show up and completely s*** the coop and get blown out. Ill take that. (Return fire)
Why So Serious?
The only team in the BIG i don't see winning the conference is m*chigan. All other schools have a chance (albeit extremely low) of getting over tOSU.
ECU grad, tOSU fan for life. Father since 1/12/13.
