And not just because it's a horrible conference (it is) but because each team will be playing in a bowl they have no business being in. WIth Ohio State and Penn State ineligible that means every B1G team that makes a bowl will likely be playing two slots up in the bowl hierachy. It will be complete mismatches across the board.
Gonna be ugly.
I agree we'll take a beating, but let's not act like Penn State was going to be competing for a high-level bowl. Ohio State? Absolutely. O'Brien and Co.? Not as much.
The Big Ten's best hope is that ND and a non-BCS team both grab BCS slots. If the Big Ten (as usual) gets 2 BCS games, it could get ugly.

I didn't think about that..... Lets hope IU can somehow manage to pull out 4 more wins and they can go to a bowl game well above what they should!!!
mkillian247 on twitter..... I say a lot of stuff you wont care about.
Also worth considering--
There's a real possibility that the Big Ten is unable to fill all 8 bowl spots, and that is without a second BCS team. Michigan, MSU, Nebraska, Wisconsin, Purdue, and Northwestern will make bowls, and Minnesota might (they only need to go 2-6 but their schedule is brutal), but I can't see Illinois, Indiana, or Iowa making a bowl game. If Minnesota doesn't get to 6 wins, the Big Ten could see only 6 of 8 bowl games filled.
I don't think the Big Ten gets a second BCS bowl. You guys just have to rely on MSU to perform well in the Rose Bowl.
Had there not been sanctions, PSU would have probably been in a high-level bowl given how terrible the B1G is (and we would have gotten spanked). PSU stunk last year and still barely missed the B1G championship. We didn't have much attrition before the sanctions hit either.
Big Ten would get smashed even if OSU and PSU were eligible. None of them deserve a BCS shot based on what I've seen. They have to get one but whomever it is might as well get prepared to get smashed by USC or Oregon(both will be in BCS bowls most likely, meaning one in the Rose Bowl).
No... Just no... You didn't just barely miss the B1G championship, you got spanked by the 1st place team. McGloin wasn't going anywhere with that offense. If Bill O'Brian doesn't come in, you don't see the improvement that you would've this year with him and your defense still is slightly above average. Not a high-level bowl.
If God dwells inside us, like some people say, I sure hope He likes enchiladas, because that's what He's getting
OSU will especially take it on the chin... Oh wait.
So you think if OSU was eligible, the Big 10 would roll? Assuming you're annointing O$U as the champion, how would you feel about playing USC this year? I feel bad for the B1G champ this year, they're going to get rolled this year.
We missed the bowl by a 3 point loss to Nebraska during a ridiculously emotional week with the team losing its head coach. Sorry dude. Win that game and PSU is in the championship. PSU went 6-2 in conference, would have been 7-1 and a B1G championship berth with a win there. Twist that however you'd like! And try to keep making the B1G sound so much better than PSU.
If we had beaten Nebraska (which was a very close loss), we would have been in the championship game. So yeah, barely missed is the appropriate phrase.
No, I don't.
But the B1G would have had much better match-ups across the board.
Why are we relying on Mississippi State again?
I'm not sure how anyone can even argue this point. Every team that would have been in a bowl that is ineligible hurts the matchups of every team below it that has to get bumped up to replace that team.
Don't be a smart-ass. I was clearly talking about Murray State.
A few months from now it's all over and we come after it like nothing happened! 1 year bowl ban.....pfffffft......walk in the park!
Look at all the other B1G teams stepping up while OSU is out of it this year.
They all spent the winter and spring figuring out who's coattails to ride with us down. Should have spent it practicing I guess. Don't worry little brothers well be back soon enough...

it would've been vacated anyway
Missed the point
"The B1G is going to get slaughtered come bowl season."
What else is new?
In good news, B1G should do better this week since conference play finally begins!
