With the upcoming 4-team playoff, I'd like to do away with the conference CG. The focus with the playoff and bloated conferences is no longer on winning a conference. It's like the basketball tourney; it benefits each team with $$$ but only really helps those teams on the bubble or below.
I don't like it because its not the college game I've loved for 40+ years, but it's reality.
I think when the WAC was 16 back in the day, they just picked the two best teams. I could be wrong though.
How would you decide the champ then? Just give it to the team with the best record? I like the CCG. I just don’t like the idea of semi’s for it.
I like it because now we have a playoff. Which is great and a 100 times better than what we use to have. I’m a lot younger than most of you guys in here but the “glory days” don’t really seem so great to me, only being able to watch a couple game’s a week if that, and letting the AP award a NC seems dumb to me. Let them decide it on the field. CFB should be a national sport, not a regional one. JMO though.

Here's what I don't follow, are we going to have a semi-final and a final for the BT champion?
If we go into "quads" will there be a playoff in that format? Then, the winner will have to come out of that mess and play two more against the SEC type teams? Good luck to everyone if we're going to do that, and even being the best in our league, to lay it on the line four times at the end of your season will be a battle of attrition with injuries as much as a battle of who will be the best.
Or am I wrong here?
I'm with Due, is there someway we can crown a champion for everyone to be happy without a playoff? I dont' see anyway around a conference championship game as there will be teams who just don't play each other. But how do we handle quads?
That’s what some people want but I don’t. It might happen any way’s because the SEC will probably expand to 16 before the B1G and some are speculating they will add two semi games. IMO it’s a bad idea.
I just want to take the two best teams in the B1G and have them play in the CG. I don’t think you should have a chance at the championship just because you beat the other 3 crappy teams in your pod.
IMO they should just make it like premier league soccer, have one big conference and at the end of the year the last place team gets demoted to the MAC league and the winner of the MAC league gets to join the B10.
Also, they should change the rules for transfering so that you can have student athletes jumping from school to school at the drop of a hat. You'll have coaches poaching players year around.
Only then will you have complete and constant chaos which will light up the message boards.
Ok. My error on KU being an AAU school. Still, it would be a poor fit academically (ranked below Nebraska), brings no football and is from a tiny state.
Here are the states that comprise the current B10 footprint along with those of schools realistically under consideration:
Texas (25.7 million) ... UT
New York (19.6 million) ... SU*
Florida (19.1 million) ... Miami*
Illinois (12.9 million)
Pennsylvania (12.7 million) ... Pitt
Ohio (11.5 million)
Michigan (9.9 million)
Georgia (9.8 million) ... GT
North Carolina (9.7 million) ... UNC, Duke, NCSt*
New Jersey (8.8.million) ... RU <----- B10 just added
Virginia (8.1 million) ... UVA, VT*
Massachusetts (6.6 million) ... BC*
Indiana (6.5 million) ... ND*
Missouri (6.0 million) ... MU
Maryland (5.8 million) ... UMD <----- B10 just added
Kansas (2.9 million) ... KU
Nebraska (1.8 million)
* Non AAU

Also, let's take the friggin' Dr. Pepper Ad off the BCS championship trophy. Seriously? You are going to advertise on a championship trophy?
If you are going to do it, do it right. Put Taco Bell on one side, Dorritos on another, KFC on another and then Dr. Pepper on the last one. Sell all four sides of ad space for maximum revenue. $$$$$$$$$
It looks like we're falling into 4 leagues with 16 teams aren't we? That will create a huge defacto playoff for college football. Two semi's in each league, one championship, you come out and play a semi and then a final. That's basically a 16 team playoff.
The kids are playing their tails off and the ADs/Presidents/Commissioners/ESPN/SEC are screwing it up.
The NCAA rule will be changed. It was changed back in the 90s to allow CCGs and again recently to allow the 4-team playoff that will begin in 2014. If the SEC and B10 both go to 16 and want the rule changed to permit conference semifinals or just to allow the teams with the best records to go to the CCG, the rule will be changed.

Why does the NCAA exist?
I know th stated reasons. But really, why does it even exist? To allow for random selective punishment of schools? Other than that, what is it's purpose? To suck the teet of of the SEC and Delany?
Here's the problem: We need giants at this time in our league as coaches. Like Bo, Like Woody, yes, like Joe once was. That's what we need. They need to be able to stand up to Delany if they know its BS, but there isn't a coach in this league with that kind of Cache. Izzo maybe in bball, probably not even him. Absolutely no coach in football has cache to step in front of this and say "whoa, lets slow down a bit and talk about it".
Do you think Bo, Woody and Joe in his prime would have anything to do with this? It would be funny the way those three would have turned him inside out in public. No way now.
Not only are we weak in football this year, our coaches are nowhere to be heard from.
The real answer is the NCAA was created and is designed to oversee non-revenue amateur intercollegiate sports. And it generally does a good job with those sports because there aren't billions of dollars at stake or fans and alumni willing to do just about anything for an extra W in field hockey. But football and men's basketball have exploded in popularity over the past 20 years and have become big business. The NCAA was not designed and is not equipped to properly monitor and regulate them as they exist today and the large amounts of money involved also lead to corruption. Football and men's basketball realistically should be separated and regulated differently, with new rules and by a new body designed specifically for that purpose. Punishing players for receiving an extra pair of shoes or a free meal when others are receiving tens of thousands of dollars or more under the table is asinine.

Somebody has to govern the whole thing. We can't have the likes of Saban, Kiffin, and Callipari terrorizing the citizens with no police around. Plus, we have to make sure the little guys at the smaller schools/non-revenue sports are protected or they'll be wiped from the face of athletic earth.
Someone has to do it. The NCAA is the only one, until the presidents and ADs figure out how to further increase their own powers while eliminating the association
They aren't doing a very good job with Callipari.
Saw that Saban is arguing already that if he loses the SEC championship game that UofF shouldn't be able to jump them. Guy wants the rules changed when it could potentially affect his school but stfu last year when it didn't matter to him.
Wags just spoke about coaches like Bo and Woody who could stand up to Delaney and Emmert. Saban is that guy in this era. Very few people are going to tell him "no".
All that matters is the now. He will bitch next year if a change hurts him.
Saw a thread on the RCMB, thought I'd bring the topic over here...
Who are you rooting for to win the Natty?
I'm pulling for Georgia. I remember chilly willy a poster that has left the group since the summer argued with me that Mark Richt is a bad coach. Would love to see them pull it off for self serving reasons so that it would add to my track record.
I didn't mind Bama winning their first three, but I'd like to see some one else in it for a change.
Nick Saban fights for what's good for NIck Saban. What Saban wants, Saban gets.
Harbough would have been.
laconophilia is everywhere...
Big East just added two more ... East Carolina (football only) and Tulane.
Shut up. Are you serious?
My immediate reaction is that it's pathetic, but then I think about it, and I can't think of who they would add...
