Stealing Sparty's recruits and owning them on the field since 1898
How can you look at RR's classes. They were mostly out of the top 10 and those who he did get ended up transferring. Under Hoke's full classes, we've had the 7th best class and now the number one class. Our recruiting classes have been above LSU for the past two years and around the same as Alabama.
Hard lean, cool? Likely too?
Your opinion here. Do you think Bennoch goes from a three to a four now that Texas offered? Why? What did he do to improve beside recommit gem MSU? We offered a three. Do you think he goes up?
YOUR have been banned from reading and posting on the Michigan Wolverine board.
Recruiting players who are four and five stars is like drafting with first and second round picks. Are you guaranteed to get a great player just because of their draft status? No, but you would still rather be drafting in the first round than in the fifth.
I care more about how their film looks, and who's offered, than how high their individual rating is. You're in just as much denial to believe higher ranked recruits don't improve your chances as you are to believe there isn't huge flaws in the system.

What were they for guys who don't really follow?
So they just look at who offered and where the player is "leaning"? The rankings have nothing to do with how good they are on film/stats/physicality etc?
Like I said I don't follow recruiting very closely. But if Benecoch does go up a star before his senior season simply because he's going to Texas now I guess I can see your point. Let me know if it happens.
The highly for profit and sponsored camps will say they " proved their worth" at camp, thus the increase. By "proving their worth" they mean getting an offer from one of what Peter likes calling "power schools" and what publishers like calling money makers.
Look the kids that are four stars certainly dint suck. But on film I'd live to see someone tell me the difference between a four and three. The rating and ranking system also follows the same type rules with many writers swaying opinion to "power teams". A playoff will certainly help all of this. The field will become more leveled like basketball is. In football one only has to look at ND for the foolishness of it all.
Just watch film. You really can see who is better after a while.
That's funny considering Rich Rod has two top 10 classes and a top 20 class..
you can talk all you want about how kids ended up transferring or not panning out, etc.. the pt is, at the time, UM had those classes, so please don't use excuses to somehow justify UM's losing ways with RR to recruiting
And let's see.. per Rivals:
2012- UM #7
2011- UM #21
Explain to me again how that's on par with Bama?
and who's offered,
This basically sums up what other posters have been saying.. a guy's stars have a greater chance to increase if one of the power schools offers him.. Highly doubt their overall skill change from month to month, but as the offer list grows, or certain schools offer that particular recruit, recruiting services take note, assume he's better than what they had projected, and add a star..
Do you really think (using Rivals), there's really any difference between a 5.8 4star and a 5.7 3star?
2012 UM # 7 Alabama # 1
2013 UM # 1 Alabama # 2
What's even funnier for UM fans.. OK, let's say you are right and beginning in 2012, the tide has changed in terms of recruiting.. Hoke is God and Dantonio has nothing left but his leftovers..
At what point in time do you really seeing an impact on the field?
It won't be 2012 with 9 guys back from the best D in the conference and 4/5 back on the OL..
I doubt it'll be 2013, considering MSU only has 10 seniors on its 2 deep and, if no one leaves early to the NFL (Big Will), MSU is set to lose only 5 total starters from the 2012 team (not to mention, starting in 2013, MSU misses OSU, PSU, Wisky from the schedule).
So maybe, you'll start to see an impact in 2014 (by that time, the UM kids from the 2012 class, when Hoke started to dominate, will either be RS frosh or sophomores and beginning to see the field), though the 2014 B1G conference schedule for MSU is @UM, @Purdue, @Minny, @IU, Neb, NW, Iowa, ILL at home- that looks like, at worst, 6-2, meaning a 9+ win season (@Oregon, no ND) seems likely again.
OK, so 2015 seems most likely- the schedule gets harder, and these 2012/2013 recruits will be mostly starters at this point for UM.
If that's where you see your advantage UM fans, I mean, feel free to tout and yell and scream all you want.. "Hey, by 2015, UM will be better than MSU and MSU will go back to being a 2nd tier program in the B1G!!"
Because the way I see it, MSU will continue to be extremely strong and a force in the B1G for the immediate future..
The 2013 class that's EIGHT months away from being completed?? The 2013 class that is open to decommit, recommit or decide to quit football all together until February?!?
You are already counting UM to have the #1 recruiting class in 2013 EIGHT months away???
And, in what universe (by your standards) is #7 and #1 the same as #1 and #2? If anything- Texas (#2 in 2012, #5 in 2013), seems more on the level of UM..
If no one else commits, it would probably be the 3rd best in the nation. We're almost at the points total of the # 1 team last year. We should get Treadwell and have a good shot at Fuller, Mathis, and Green.
My question is that in two or three years if Hoke is not winning the division and league or worse, still losing to Dantonio with msu's horrible recruiting classes will he be considered a horrible coach? Some fans are creating some real high expectations.
Good for them, but again I like to see products on the field
You can say what you want about who UM "might" get, but every top 10 class in 2012 had at least 2 5stars and according to Rivals, UM currently has 0.
Now, they will still have a top 5ish class really no matter what happens the rest of the way, but please don't compare UM's class to Bama's, who's been basically dominating recruiting the last 4-5 years..
You can compare them to Bama's class this year, and we should have a top 5 class next year as well. Who do you see jumping us? The only realistic candidates are Alabama or Texas which would leave us at 3 which is assuming we don't get another highly ranked recruit.
Nope. Michigan will be better than MSU in 2012.
I think there is a difference between a 5.9 or a 6.0 4 star and a 5.7 3 star.
Absolutely. With the way he is recruiting Hoke has no excuses to not win the division at least. The only case that can be made to not win the league is if Ohio State or Penn state put out elite teams. Hoke won't make excuses either. If he is not winning the league or at least the division he will tell you himself he is not getting the job done. Those expectations come straight from Hoke.
Jabari Paker is making his decision in November. Sound’s good for MSU.
Also it seems like UK has offered James Young. The 13 class has potential to be , with the Harrison twin’s, Young, Wiggins, and Chris Walker.
FWIW 2014 PF/C Cliff Alexander revealed that IU is his leader but UK was his “dream” school growing up.
Jabari Parker, the number one player in the entire nation (in the 2013 recruiting class), will be making his college decision in an announcement he plans

You say I am wrong and the facts don't support my statements. Well, explain the facts. Your spreadsheet is an amateur attempt at figuring things out. It has been proven time and again that recruiting rankings are an indicator of success.
Strangley, you also make the basic mistake of confusing correlation with causation. Just because the bigger programs recruit better and have bigger followings, does not mean the sites rank their kids higher to sell subscriptions. Did it ever occur to you that the famous name brand that is "USC" or someone brings in a lot of top level talent and fans because of their prestige?
Good for you. I like the attitude.
Given that neither of Hoke's vaunted recruiting classes have played a down of CFB, can we hold off on making proclamations? You don't know if UM has the 7th best class till they actually accomplish something on the field. ND had the #2 class awhile back, and generally recruited in the top 15. All that got them was a new coach, who's looking similar to the old coach.
FWIW, they did go to a BCS bowl in their first 2 years under Weiss. Been a faceplant ever since.
Michigan State does not and will not run the 3-4 defense.
Somehow I got Charbeneau mixed up with the bloggers on ESPN. I don't really read the detroit rags, plus isn't he the Spartan beat writer?
