Is MSU interested in Young? I honestly don't know, I thought there was some kid in Detroit that was doing very well but grades seemed to be an issue. Is he a UM target, or any interest there? I've heard of Parker, about a month ago I saw someone thought it was between Duke and MSU, but I really have no idea.
Now knowing what 1995 is like all over again! Thank you 247 technology!!
I hope everybody had a great weekend.
Looks like the discussion hasn't changed.
Looks like one of the top LBers in the nation for the 2014 class visited Michigan and was supposed to visit MSU. While he didn't pull a full Kulger and commit to Michigan, he did brush off the MSU visit to spend an extra day at Michigan.
Looks like alot of offers will be going out based on the SMSB camps and MSU camps, who are you MSU guys feeling good about?
For Michigan, an offer went out to Damian Webb, DB out of Cass Tech. He looked solid matched up against Treadwell a few weeks ago in a 7on7. Also, Bailey, a high 4* WR out of Florida looks to be visiting Michigan in a few weeks and is making his decision soon after. Looks to be down to Michigan and FSU.

LOL OK.. UM's one recruiting class is like Bama's one recruiting class..
Do that for 3 or 4 more years straight and maybe UM will be on Bama's level..
And LOL- basically saying a top 5 class for 2014? OOOK. Glad you are so confident in Hoke
If that was an absolute why would USC , auburn bama tosu all have to cheat so much? Oregon is getting there too.
ND wouldn't be on the comeback for the past 20 years.
You seem overly stimulated. Wouldn't you be more satisfied if you let us shoot out mouths off, then sit back to watch us eat crow rather than getting your neck hairs all up in arms?
Well at least that makes sense.
Michigan State does not and will not run the 3-4 defense.
Doesn't work. um has never lost a game or a recruit they really wanted.
I'll just say this quickly and I'll come back for a more in-depth post later.
I think a lot of you are underestimating this staff. Who thought Michigan would go 11-2 last year? Who thought we would have one of the best defenses in the big ten? Who thought we would score more points per game under Borges than we did under Rich Rod?
I think having probably the most proven coordinators in the conference is going to go a long way. I don't know if we'll be better than MSU but I think it's going to be a lot closer than many of you would like to believe.
I had Michigan as 9-3 to 10-2 last year. All MSU fans on here called me a troll for it, but I saw Hoke and company making a huge difference last off-season. I also had the Michigan defense improving into the top 30 last year, once again that was considered trolling by MSU fans.
Yep, props to you for that.
And your predictions for 2012 are . . .?
James Young is a very highly rated kid on pretty much every site but yes from what I have heard he has grade issues. On Michigan's end, I don't believe they are recruiting him at all because of that. Honestly, i haven't heard that MSU has shown much interest either. Young seems like a Kentucky type kid all the way. A kid not interested in school at all and will be one and done for sure.
Well if you read the post I quoted you will see that the MSU guy is acting like there is a huge difference between MSU and Michigan at the present time so I mostly returning the favor. Not to mention the guy was off in his post on a significant fact. He was saying the 2012 kids would be RS freshman/soph in 2014. In fact they would be going into their 3rd years in the system. Basically I was just giving him back his crap.
But if you want my opinion, Yes Michigan will be a little bit better than MSU in 2012. As much as MSU fans want to believe your D was so much better than Michigan's D, it's just not true. Michigan had a good solid D last year and I have faith in Hoke and Mattison that the D will be solid again this year. If a step is taken backwards it will be a small one. The difference will come on the offensive side of the ball. Michigan has a better returning run game and a more established passing game. Going into year 2 of the system I expect to see the offense take a decent size step foward.
I have been sayings 8-4 for months. Undefeated at home again, 2-4 away from Ann Arbor.
I also believe Michigan can beat any team on their schedule, but it is hard to win on the road.
MSU fans should know this, 14-0 at home the last 2 years, 8-5 on the road over that same time span.
I think the big concern for UM in '12 is the DL. Lots has to go right for them to approach last year's group, which was good, but not great. A good back 7 with a weak DL is not going to be fun. I also wonder about wear and tear; tough, physical non-conf + 8 straight Big 10 games.
Offensively, I think UM should be good. That said, UM's O, in any form, hasn't been much of a threat to MSU in recent years. It's a toss-up game and should be a lot of fun.
Any consideration to the thought that though it's year 2 of Mattison/Borges, that opposing coaches now have a full offseason + a season's worth of game film on each? That could mitigate some of the improvement.
Weird - If the recruiting sites just ranked according to the size of the fanbase that the recruit is likely to sign with after an offer, then USC would not have to cheat.
It is the scarity of actual talent that causes cheating. It turns out that most kids are actually open and ranked based on talent and there are many programs going after them (i.e., many people recognize their talent) that teams pay players. If talent wasn't able to be determined accurately, the big schools would just hire a bunch more athletic department assistants to review tape and find hidden gems. (Of course, you have to assume that despite the popularity of HS football in America that a LOT of crazy good athletes have gone unnoticed by the media, word of mouth, coaches trying to get exposure for their kids, parents who want a free scholarship, etc. It happens, but very rarely.
It turns out that four star guys are rare athletic talents and so schools cheat to get them.
We heard the same things last year about our DL. I have a ton of confidence that Hoke and Mattison know what they are doing on the DL. They will have those guys ready to go. Roh, Black, Beyer, Clark and Campbell will be solid.
The MSU game is not a toss up. Michigan is the clear cut favorite in my mind. It's at home. We have a senior 3 year starting QB. MSU has a first year starting QB and WRs. You can talk about Michigan's O all you want but it really is irrelevant considering the fact that we are talking about a different staff. You can use last year if you want but I seriously don't think that O is what Borges has in mind. Does any of this sound familiar Rocky? A lot of this are reasons you thought MSU was a clear cut favorite over Michigan last year.
I love how you say for every other team that you see an improvement in year 2 under a new staff but for Michigan it's opposing coahces now have film on them. Seriously, be consistent please. Not to mention, Borges struggled with Denard last year. I am expecting the offense to look a little different this year than it did last year. Please tell Narduzzi to just use the game film from last year.
Clear cut favorite? Not with Narduzzi and our defense still having Denard's (aka your offense) number since he has wore the Michigan uniform
"If you're worried about Wolverine fans, just move to Pasadena. You'll never have to deal with 'em."
Your DL also had 3 SRs on it. MSU saw a similar improvement in 2007, with 3 SRs on their DL and a new coaching staff. Then they left, the replacements weren't as good, and it took a few years to get back to respectability. Coaching didn't change, BTW, MSU has had the same DL/D-coordinator since MD took over.
It'd help your argument if your 3rd year starter at QB had had any sort of success against MSU. Arguably the worst games of his career have come against Michigan State. I don't think the Spartan D is going to be much worse than last year, so it'd take quite an improvement on the part of Denard to have success. FWIW, MSU also returned all their WRs minus Dell last year; UM's WRs are not exactly world-beaters at the moment.
So, the only things in UM's favor, from your post, are a 3rd year starter at QB who's had minimal success vs. MSU and the fact it's a home game.
Edit: One more thing about your DL. As good as it was last year, MSU's OL completely controlled the LOS in the MSU/UM game. 4/5 of that OL are back. Your DL in '12 would have to be better than it was in '11 to draw even with MSU's OL, and that's assuming that MSU's OL doesn't improve at all between '11 and '12. If your DL takes a step back from last year, then I don't see UM being able to handle MSU up front.

Notre Dame didn't have Matison roaming the sidelines.
Stealing Sparty's recruits and owning them on the field since 1898
But when they did, MSU beat them.
We will have 2 seniors and a junior starting next year. I don't see your point. Hoke and Mattison are DL coaches. They know what they are doing. Hoke said the DL is better at this time than they were last year at this same point in the year. If you don't mind I will trust that Hoke knows his team better than you do.
For the MSU game specifically, I expect the improvement on O to come from the running game and Fitz. He had like 2 carries last year. I expect Borges will learn from that and Fitz will be a much bigger factor in the game this year. So, no Denard does not need to improve drastically. Just a normal step up in year 2 for Denard and more focus on using Fitz by Borges.
You overlooked what i think is the biggest factor. Your QB. Inexperienced QB on the road. I will take Michigan.
Yea, Bell had a great game last year...
Here we go again..
We also have 3 respected DL coaches.
That guy just walked right into that one.
