You know why Michigan was selected, because they were ranked high enough to be eligible to be selected. And yes, the Michigan program and it's fans are more desirable to the selection committee than other teams that were also eligible. MSU wasn't even eligible to be selected, losing 3 times will do that.

Well, that and the head of the selection committee went to um.
Now knowing what 1995 is like all over again! Thank you 247 technology!!
The head of AllState Insurance went to Michigan, not the head of the bowl selection committee.
I think there's a difference, but I don't know. Does AllState an other title sponsors actually pick the teams that play in their bowl?
Agreed, Michigan was eligible and is a desirable program.
MSU was eligible once, but as we know, nobody wanted them.

As opposed to MSU who has probably the 6th biggest fanbase in the big ten.
Stealing Sparty's recruits and owning them on the field since 1898
How about you find an article from an actually source that represents "the entire media and nation." Like one from the NYT, WSJ, something that actually counts as the MSM...
You are being extra douchy today. Congrats.
Fans? I see one person in that photo with Michigan gear on. Admittedly, he/she/it is big enough to be counted as two. :)
He said current program as in the RR years have no relevance to the teams Hoke and his staff are putting on the field.
Are the RR years part of the Michigan program's history? unfortunately yes.
6th seems low. We've got to be like 5th.
Thanks, have a great weekend.
This was one of the first couple of hits on google when googling "Sugar Bowl is a fraud."
It certainly could be argued that Virginia Tech’s Sugar Bowl opponent, Michigan, is not the most worthy selection, either. The Wolverines lost head-up to rival Michigan State, and the Spartans barely lost in the Big Ten championship game to Wisconsin on Saturday. Still, the smart money says the glory-starved Michigan fan base will flock to New Orleans in big numbers and Michigan still carries its big-name cachet.
Like it or not, LSU and Alabama are the two best teams. The system got that right, but giving Virginia Tech a BCS slot shows how flawed it is. - College Football news

This is pure comedy right here.
something like that

You're right about that, used to be desirable enough where fans with zero affiliation to the school would ride the school's coat tails without attending one class there so they would feel like they are apart of something.
"If you're worried about Wolverine fans, just move to Pasadena. You'll never have to deal with 'em."
You bitch and moan about respect for MSU and then come at us with this nonsense. GTFO of here with this crap.
that's actually a compliment you know
Eligible, and as you bolded, desirable. I see they left out the fact that the 3 loss MSU team wasn't eligible, but then again, nobody really expects MSU to be eligible anyway. Thanks for the link.
bottom line is we made the Sugar Bowl and you guys weren't good enough to make it.
Do you even realize that, that is a compliment to the Michigan program?
I said used to be. We'll see how Hoke does with a tougher schedule. Wonder if any of the "die hard true blue fans" jumped off to Bama or LSU during the Rich Rod era. Watched them on TV when I was 25, affiliation!
