One of the most dissapointing films I've ever seen. Here's why:
1) Horrible casting and acting. James Franco is not very expressive as an actor. He played the part of a carnical magician. He wasn't believeable at all. Mila Kunis reads lines as dead as I've ever seen. It's as if she was in a middle school play.
2) A flat out horrible script and story development. So you have three witches, but no insight as to what powers they have. Also Mila's character falls in love with Franco in what appears to be 3 minutes of movie. There is zero character development and no time do characters feel multidimensional. You never care for any character.
3)Finally, the film was a horrible let down of what could have been. Its hard to imagine a story like Oz plus a modern day budget sucking, but it does. They pay homage to the orginal W.o.O by bringing in a lion, but no explanation as to who the lion is. The Scarecrow is referenced but in any sort of connecting.
Sorry so long but had to vent. What do u guys think?
It was ok.
Our quarterback does front flips, suck it.
I love you elite, but that movie sucked. They could have made that huge.
Be thankful you didn't open the thread where I said that I loved it.
Franco was the worst. He had two expressions-- fake smile and and blank stare.
What you said plus about 100 other reasons. The cinematography tried to replicate the WoO, and failed miserably on many levels. In the original, Dorothy got a bump on the head, did/didn't dream it all up, and everyone in her life was a character in her dream. Same thing in this movie except no dream, no logical reason all those characters are in Oz.
Can't fix the little cripple girl, but can fix the porcelain doll with broke legs. The Wizard is a lowlife con man that is just not a character you ever root for or even care about.
Seeing it in 3D makes it more impressive. However, I wanted less CGI, and more actual scenery. Head to New Zealand and film akin to the Lord of the Rings films. Don't just film all of it in front of a green screen. Also, I'm not really sure that's how I pictured Oz.
Be happy you didn't pay money to go see it in the theater. My daughter wanted to go see it when it came out so I wasted good money on that garbage.
God awful movie

Didn't even see it but after hearing the opinions expressed here glad I passed on it. Sad as I loved the WoO and had high hopes for this film.
