As I said, it's your "only claim to fame". And as the saying goes, the time for honoring yourself will soon come to an end.

We've been hearing that for a decade and yet you keep losing. You guys arent trending up anymore buddy. You had 1 decent season where you caught a few teams by suprise, won a couple of crap games and got blown out by anyone decent....this year you went back to typical UVA football. If i were you, id worry about the dumpster fire in CVille before i started running my mouth about a program that has won 13/14 and 9 in a row vs yours.
VT has their own issues, yes....but our programs are on completely different levels and the results prove that.

I'm not going to argue one way or the other. But your program just beat our "dumpster fire" program by three points with 6 seconds to go in the game and needed OT to beat what's currently the worst program in the league. You're getting ready to fire your entire offensive staff minus Daddy's boy. That's not very good under any scenario.
The current status of this thread is, "We're crappy but not as crappy as you." Last time I checked, that's still crappy.
Have you heard any rumors about who you all are hiring to replace the coaches you fired? Seems like it is taking a awful long time.
How about playing in a NC game, winning a BCS bowl (hell, even going to a BCS bowl). Winning your conference 4 times in 9 years, 8 10-win seasons in a row, 20 straight bowl games. Winningest active coach in CFB. Are none of those claims to fame?
Doesnt matter if you win by 1 or by 30 (weve done both)...a win is a win. You couldnt beat the worst VT team we've fielded in a decade.
You are not on VT's level and you know it. And fwiw, I dont now and never have thought of VT as being elite. I think we are a solid program with a lot of potential if the right moves are made at the right time.
To be fair, you can also change the wording of your statement to something like this: You finally had a year where we straight up sucked. The year where we were worse than we had been in 20 years, and you STILL couldn't beat us...I'd say that's more discouraging for you than us.
And to Raleigh, noone is stating our claim to fame is beating UVA. But the fact remains, no matter how piss poor you are or how many years in a row we beat you....you are still our most hated rival. So yes, we are going to "brag" or whatever you wanna call it about beating you. It never gets old. Plus this is a thread for UVA &VT, sooo....naturally I would say the rivalry will be talked about.
Winner winner chicken dinner.
Speaking of food......just got back from New Orleans......went to Mother's for a shrimp Po'boy and grits then went to Bourbon House for their seafood platter and some damn good Southern Gentleman stout beers. Hit Mulate's for lunch on Wednesday and the Rib Room for dinner. Whew.....
Now what were we talking about?
Must suck being the Hokies bitch year after year
I've heard rumors. I don;t know how true they are. I expect to hear something middle of next week.
Not really. I expeted to be right around .500 this year. A couple bounces here and there and that could have been a reality (if not better.) Unlike 2011, those didn't happen and we got what we got.
If you would have told me in August that we'd lose in Blackburg on a FG with :06 to go, I would have thought you were crazy. Afterall, this thread told me your running game was going to better without David Wilson.
For me this has always been a 4 year deal. A program that goes through a major shake up like what we did with Groh needs a good 4 years to recover. It had to be torn apart down to the foundation and built back up. A good year 4 gets you to year 5. A good year 5 while still still on a positive trend and you may have something solid. A bad year 5 and it may be time to get back to the drawing board. I personally feel like the staff changes are happening too soon. But hopefully they make some solid hires and that helps take advantage of the talent that's in the pipeline.
I agree Joe, should have been given another year before changing any coaches, the only thing IMO that should have happened that did was reassigning AP from ST coach.
WAHOO 4 LIFE!!
UVA Fans in terms of football have had no illusions of grandeur for quite some time. We do not claim to be elite nor have we been for a long time, if ever. You call UVA a dumpster fire, so ok you have beaten a dumpster fire for 9 years in a row. By your own admission what kind of accomplishment is that. I find it ironic that when UVA begins to win some recruiting battles that your fans declare that our staff must be cheating. Is it cheating when players are accused of rape and other criminal activities and yet they get to play? Is that cheating? Is it cheating when you pad your schedule for many years, even to the disgust of your own fans, in order to pad your record? Your schedule has been full of pasties for many years. It was an expressed strategy by your own athletic department. Now that your have began playing legitimate teams recently, you get your asses beat and embarrass yourselves. Now your remedy for this is to fire your entire staff, including Beamer, and accuse your rival of cheating. Was James Madison cheating? Was Pitt and Cincinnati cheating? The biggest cheaters of all had to be Stanford last year when they beat you like a drum on national television. Now the ACC is to weak for you, so it has to be the ACC's fault. So you petition your fans for a move to the SEC. Let me let you Hokies in on a little secret, you would be declaring every team in the SEC as cheaters because every one of them would beat you like a drum. Beat James Madison, then you can begin to think about Alabama.

They are all very good accomplishments I do not deny. You want credit for those things and you deserve it. However we as UVA fans have also had a lot of success, albeit not recently. Under George Welsh we felt the enthusiasm of being number one, going to bowl games year after year, BEATING TOP 5 TEAMS, and top 25 rankings year in and year out. During those years we had to contend with FSU when they were at the top of their game. You have not. We had to contend with the Mack Brown years at UNC, you have not. We had to overcome 21 of 22 losing seasons before the arrival of Welsh, you have not. I will recognize your accomplishments. You should also recognize ours.
Let's keep talking about Rib Room.
I'm pretty sure we had to compete with FSU at the top of their game as well. If we didn't then we would have a NC wouldn't we..... O and not to mention we had to compete with Miami when they fielded pro football teams in college!
In that case, have a wonderful weekend!
Haha...yep. Damn good place for ribs.
On my walk down Bourbon, I saw this place. Pretty much says it all (although I didn't buy one).
You want to hang your hat on one game with FSU which by the way you lost. Had you been in the league at that time it would have been one of many losses to them. And yes Miami in the big east, how many Big East titles did Tech win during those prime Miami years?
More than UVA has won in 60+ years in the ACC. I'm guessing you don't know our record vs Miami over the past 20 years. Oh yea, we beat #2 Miami, if that helps your caps lock beating top 5 teams argument.
UVA isn't, and never will be a football school. You don't have the fan base for it, nor the mentality. You're a spring sports school. Cue the one trick pony line. I'm sure you'll fail to recognize we just swept you in 3 sports, but we don't need it as a crutch for the only sport that matters.
You're right, we'll never be a "football" school, and quite frankly, we don't want to be. I think there is a ton more pride associated with having a very well rounded athletics department from top to bottom, with an occasional good-to-great football season thrown in every few years.
