I don't know if that is possible with Bud on staff? But I have no idea if he wants the HC job and all that it would entail? I also don't know if Frank is ready to put that out there because if a new guys comes in and is really good he sure as hell might not want to step down, kind of like what happened at Texas w Much.
I definitely think if someone comes in and does a great job they could earn the job or be in a position to have the in waiting title with a turn over deadline?
Even with out that I can't think of another program with as nationally known horrible O as VT, so turning VT into a legit O would mean a ton in the college football world and worth a ton of money. Vt has the exposure that can launch someone to a major job if done right, but of course that is a risk too, but worth it IMO to get us a real O.
In terms of pay, Stanford is private so the info is not out there but Stanford is known as a whole for not paying their assistants very well. Couple that with the fact that you are paying to live in Palo Alto and we could offer just a little more than he makes now and it would be a huge difference with the cost of living in the Burg.
In terms of why he would leave Stanford. He is from Charlotte and went to school at Howard, and I believe his wife is also an east coast person. It would be a chance to move back very close to home and be back where they fit. He also recruits VA/DC area for Stanford, so moving back here would cut back on having to travel across the country multiple times a year to recruit. Instead it is only a couple hours of driving.
Groh just earned some respect from me.. Wish he woul d have said what he really wanted to:
Retirement not in ex-UVa coach Al Groh's vocabulary Al Groh isn't ready to be put out to pasture any time soon, but concedes,
Resolve to perform what you ought; perform without fail what you resolve. You may be whatever you resolve to be - Stonewall Jackson
I think he got his point across rather nicely when it comes to what he thinks about Paul Johnson without going into intimate detail. LOL!! I also think next year will be Paul Johnson's last year at GT too, I've heard the alumni are getting tired of him.
WAHOO 4 LIFE!!
That is where I think VT is in kind of tough spot with hiring a new OC, you have Bud who is the highest paid assistant at $500K a year. Bringing in Pep is probably going to cost you between $650-$750K a year just to outbid some other schools that may go after him too. How's Bud going to feel about putting all these years in and some guy comes in the first year making more than him. Bud isn't the answer as the guy that suceeds Frank, if he were head coaching material he would have been one 10-15 years ago.

I think this bowl win gave him an extra year beyond 2013. If he lost it then I would agree with you. Obviously he is a prick. Only prick would go for it on 4th and 3 from their own 35 yard line. Which make me think, how many times did he go for it on forth down and not make it? Would you think that maybe if he punted more, then GT would have won a few more games? Just thinking out loud..
Yeah I don't think the bowl game saved him, he did most of his damage in the ACC with kids that he didn't recruit. Their recruitng classes have sucked, I think they are in for a bad season next year. The more the ACC teams play the triple option the less effective it will become IMO. He fired Groh to keep the heat off his back and get another year.
I see your point.. Paul says his time is almost up..
Bud won't be outpaid if Pep were to get 650k to Buds 500k. He has a $1Mil bonus coming after restructuring 3 years ago so thats equals out to $250k a year. I think then they will restructure his contract again to be around 650 or 700 once we free up some of this dead weight (Newsome and O'Cain)
I think VT will need to readdress the salaries of all current assistants to get into the FA market we are looking at, you want to go out on the open market, you have to pay the price that is out there...and in doing so you may have to take care or the guys you have been able to kind of put off because they were your guys...maybe
Bud doesnt get paid 500k so thats a moot point. Bud will make over 750k per year from 2009-2014, including bonuses for bowls, acc titles and all that. We can pay an offensive guy 500k, couple that with the face that Bud wants an offense that could take some pressure off of him and were fine.
The administration making this hire will be out in 2015 (at the latest) so they dont matter either. This is all on Beamer.

So Hoos, who has re-solidifed their commitment back to UVA since the firings of the wrong coaches?
THE ONLY THING I'M ADDICTED TO IS WINNING--CHARLIE SHEEN
Bud's salary is $502K a year. He has to be at VT until the end of the 2014 season to get the annuity. So what he makes a year right now it's a little over $500K. Pep is going to get $650K to$750K a year somewhere whether that's at VT or somewhere else.

All of them pretty much. From what's being reported, will be surprised if any of the visits some that were made actually happened. From the sounds of it on Twitter and other Social Media most of them assume as we do that Tenuta will be the new DC.
Yea his base is, but the million divided over the 5 years is 250, he and VT think of his salary as 750...as long as he thinks of it that way who cares...or we could think of him making 502 this year and 1.5 next year.
One heck of a job of damage control by London if he keeps his current commits. I believe you guys just lost 1-2 or total? One was an o-lineman I believe?
As I said, Bud will make over 750k a year from 2009-2014, when bonuses are factored in. If youd like to put some money up, ill take any bet youd like that his average income from VT per year is over 750k from 2009-2014.
You have no clue what Pep is paid now, nor what he will get elsewhere. Unless this is Dashawns uncle telling you this again, he was dead on last time.
FWIW I dont expect Pep at VT anyways, though id be thrilled with the hire.
It can be spun either way. All I was saying to get the annuity to make it average out to 750 is him staying thru the 2014 season.
It is true that Stanford keeps coaches salaries private, but please don't think I'm getting the $650-$750 from 247 or "sources" All you have to do is read up on other websites to figure out who's looking for a OC and the going rates for what they are willing to pay is $650+$750. I'm trying to have a serious conversation here and you gotta chime in with your dickhead comments as usual. What a prick!!
The one offensive lineman was the only one we lost, and nobody had an idea he was at UNC for a visit until he committed. We replaced him with a kid from GA within a week, may not be as polished at the same stage but has more upside.
For the record even though I think 5284 is a prick, I still think Pep would be a homerun hire for VT. Hell he causes us fits in N. Va already at Stanford one could only imagine what he could do recruiting for a school 4 hours away.
As far a Dashawn Hand is concerned, so what if he's more interested in VT than UVA. If he doesn't commit to play at VT it doesn't make a shit if your 2nd or 10th. It will take a small miracle like you guys playing for a National Championship to make him really consider playing in the ACC. You don't have to keep calling him his Uncle. I've talked to him again, his uncles name is Donald Hand he doesn't care who knows. Your more than welcome to check with your sources to make sure. Yep it is the same Donald Hand that played PG at UVA in the 1990's.
Whats your flavor? I have been drinking this mixed with this lately:
