Well I guess hiring Long will make Shane O Mac more attractive for the HC job at VT in a few years. The said part about it is that he sat in with his dad on these interviews. Good luck explaining that to the 804 to keep dominating it.
WAHOO 4 LIFE!!
Man you struggle to read. Again, I said I dont gauge VT against UVA. Yall suck, beating yall is no better than beating Duke, who were also 9-0 against. Im concerned with our showings against LSU, USC, FSU, and so forth. We needed a big splash to get to that level. This is the opposite and will bring us closer to UVAs level than FSUs.
Shane will have no troubles in the 804.
On the bright side I just saved $5,000 and a trip to Atlanta to watch us get stomped.
OK, just a little hint the rest of us college football fans already know VT is in a decline and will continue to until Frank retires, we've been saying it all year maybe you guys will start believing it. Please don't commit suicide when UVa smacks that ass this year. I see a little over half filled Lane Stadium crowds in your future. You can be even a bigger shot then.
I would love to sit here and post smart ass comments about Chuck Long all night long but I do have some respect for the other Hokie posters in this thread so I will continue this discussion tomorrow or maybe later tonight if I fell like getting back on the computer.
Man im so pissed
$100 this is a trial balloon. Beamer and Weaver interview Long. Nice guy. Gives a good interview. Tells a touching story about wanting to be closer to his son when asked why he decided to step away from the college game. Stellar resume from a college player perspective and had some decent years as a coordinator too back in the day.
However, they have reservations. So they get someone to float his name to gauge the reaction. Reaction comes back overwhelmingly negative. Beamer and Weaver press on.
If this is the case, I'd still be worried just from the simple fact that they thought he warranted the floater. You run the risk of negative PR backlash even with a simple trial balloon. Only way to overcome it is with a home run hire, which in this case, was your Plan A (Pep). You guys better have another home run hire tucked away.
Here is the official word. Long is most likely OC candidate. He has not been offered the position and probably won't be. If anybody can tell me what in the fuck that means, thank you. I'm complexly clueless. But after 600 comments and 20,000 views, that is what I got out of it.
It means VT sucks something fierce I think, or something along those lines
Blanding to FSU
fsufsu said... I've got about 10 great stories on Lane but all you need to know is he will never be a loser, that's for sure.
I really don't know what to say, this came so far out of left field. If they pay attention to the fans there is no way in hell they should make this hire.
He might put that myth to bed next weekend while he is visiting Charlottesville unofficially, while we have our big official visit weekend for all our commitments in 2013.
its beyond funny that UVA fans still think they have a chance, that is what makes recruiting fun though
I hadn't ready your post before posting something similar on our board. I can totally see this with the people that have connections on our board...and it would be a good move.
We don't need the homerun, but we can't afford to totally swing and miss, have to make contact
Strange that most sources say 3 or 4 besides Pep were being interviewed. Why would Long be the only name to leak out anywhere? And why are those in the know so adamant that he hasn't been offered?
He could very well pick UVA, but FSU will not go away, and Blanding is good enough to have a spot anywhere in the country until the last minute. Even if he picks UVA, your season could come into play, if it is bad.
IMO Blanding is/was better that Brown, and I wouldn't be surprised to see Blanding move up in the rankings and even to see Holmes up to high 5* before it's said and done. Blandings ball skills were really really impressive on both O and D, maybe more so on O.
Either it's a done deal with Long or it was floated out to gauge a reaction. Pep would have been great but we don't need him, we need someone that fits his measure ables, recent success, good recruiter, organized Offense.
Yeah but Quin doesn't want to play O. He know's his future in the NFL is at Safety and I can't blame the kid. I still don't have any doubt that he will be a HOO and most everybody else says the same. He likes FSU no doubt but he want's to play with his friends more. Unless there is some falling out along the way with that core group of kids I can see all of them head to UVA.
I can't get a straight answer was told a couple of weeks ago that he could committ next weekend now I'm hearing he may do it at our Junior Day and see if he can help get the ball rolling with some others to committ that day. That's the honest answer and if true I would prefer he wait until our Junior Day.
So coachrobbie says Donta Wilkins is much better than Hand and Teller. Somebody smack this fool.
I was told 5 people interviewed for it. But also was told it was Pep's if the money could be worked out. I was told that Frank was surprised that Pep stayed at Stanford. After last night's leak of Chuck Long's name and the firestorm that ensued I would be skeptical of anybody else saying they have an inside knowledge until the new OC is hired.
He's a smart kid to stay on D, too many want to have the ball in their hands, there are probably 2-3 kids a year that would be AA if they had choosen to play D instead of O...I really wanted Terrell on the D side of the ball, same with Caleb. IMO JC is a AA type Safety, with a All ACC WR Ceiling
Playa, +1, I owe you one
CR is on crack to think Wilkens is better than either of those guys, don't get me wrong is is good, but the other 2 only have one thing in common that CR cares about, they won't be Hoos. JO said he think Teller is better than Brown and Hand.
CoachRobbie used to come out and play away from the friendly confines of Hooville when he wasn't in man lust with one single coach, of course he was banned on the Hoo site back then so he didn't have much choice.
Maybe I read it wrong, but I took form the post he we saying that of all the games he had seen this year that the three had a played in people had a tougher time handling Wilkins than Hand or Teller. I don't think he came out and said that Wilkins was actually better.
JO calls it straight, if he says that about Teller I believe it also heard from another coach that Teller reminded him of Chris Long only Teller is more advanced skill wise coming out of high school. That's the kid that crushed me by not coming to UVA.
"If a player is from NOVA then there's a 99.9% chance I'll get the real 411 and actually see him play along with others who might catch em' in a game. Hand is a good player but not dominate and the samething goes for Teller who won't play DE in college but either a DT or OT.
Neither of these 2 players come close to Donta Wilkins who is dominate and has been for the past 2 years."
That's a copy-paste of what he said.....
