My hokie grad marine corp officer brother just showed up to surprise my sis as se walks
It won't work, i'm sure you have that UVa stink on you.
Derrick Nnadi is clearly one of the best in the state, and has the kind of intensity that drives a defense. I know the Crystal Ball says 100% UVA, but we are going to fight tooth and nail for him. He would be THE premier DT on our roster, and a player like him would still stand out among our deep and skilled DE and DB positions.
Was anyone paying attention to the Lawrence Marshall commitment? This defensive end was predicted 100% to Michigan State and instead committed to the more accomplished in-state rival.
But Michigan St doesn't have the Godfather and the Thouroughbreds pushing kids to go where they want them to go not where the kid wants to go, lmao. Nnadi is a beast and as a UVa fan I have a bad feeling this could be another Teller. Hope I am wrong but nothing would surprise me in recruiting.
That's awesome, congrats to your fam. Love seeing those situations.
It does kind of have that same feel to it but I dunno. I think it all depends on how long he lets it play out. The longer he waits the better I feel.
He is surrounded by people who want him to make a particular decision, so he will have a more difficult time making his own decision than Teller did. His friends and coaches genuinely believe the things they are telling him and want what is best for Derrick, so its not like they are liars or frauds. I just hope people like JC, Bucky, (and possibly Nnadi) can show what VT is really about and represent the 757 with pride.
VT is a family school who takes care of their players, just look at the record: both Vick brothers, all 4 Fuller brothers, Wang brothers, VanDyke brothers, Hopkins brothers, 2 Edmunds brothers, etc. Now we gotta understand him wanting to go somewhere he knows will be loved, and that happens to be the biggest reason why so many players choose to come to VT.

I'd add that it is now 4 Fuller brothers, and Alston Smith is obviously a legacy. We're even doing pretty well recruiting UVA legacy recruits.
This literally makes no sense at all
So other random players pick VT because you are kind to brothers who are good enough to play for VT ?
Lots of schools have brothers that play for them, when you get one its almost a shoe in that others in that family follow in their footsteps
fsufsu said... I've got about 10 great stories on Lane but all you need to know is he will never be a loser, that's for sure.
unless their last name happens to be mihota for example
The phrase you're looking for is "shoo in", and you are wrong. Ask the Long, Mihota, or Walker brothers from UVA.
It's more than brothers. Bruce Smith sent his son back. Frank brought his son back, as a player and coach. Torrian came back. Cornell came back. Bud has never coached for anyone but Beamer. Vincent and Nina trusted us with all four of their sons. Every recruit that visits mentions the family feel.
It says that people that have sent their sons to VT like and respect the way they were treated while at VT. VT does very well with siblings, IMO that says a lot. And it isn't always that way everywhere. Ask UVA, as said above, they have missed on some big time talents, Long, Mihota (brother played at UVA) is a 4* in the 14 class that is committed to VT, Walker (brother plays at UVA) is a 4* that isn't considering UVA.
You are off base on Long. he committed to play baseball at FSU out of HS. Long did not have the grades to get into UVA.
FSU is in the ACC, they should have the same standards of admittance as UVA, but I will 100% grant you that even if he did have the grades and he/his family knew he wasn't going to put forth any work to get grades, UVA wasn't for him...he didn't have the grades even if he did have the grades for admittance.
But UVA did miss on Long, had he choosen UVA or not I suppose no one will ever know.
NoVa that new pic is the "tits"
It's not about where you're from, it's about what you've done..
you are joking........FSU and UVA have the same standards for admitting athletes.....see Drew Harris.
Yet Morgan Moses did? Sure....
Drew Harris is an NCAA case. IF he is eligible he can go where he wants. We can do this see -so and so- for lots of each other's recruits.
You guys keep using Long as an example. Kyle wanted to play baseball, and went to FSU to do so. The fact that he got in trouble and opted to go to Oregon had little to do with FB, or UVA. In fact, when he was in HS, Kyle was quoted as saying that if he chose to play FB, he wouldn't ever go to a school that would play UVA, because he loved UVA and Al Groh (ironically enough). The youngest Long ended up committing and attending UVA to play Lacrosse. So, we got 2 of the 3, but you wouldn't use that fact, only what helps you out. Yes, we lost on Mihota, and I'm not sure why, or why Walker isn't interested, but even VT doesn't get 100% of their legacy recruits, no schools do. Mike Glennon chose NCSt over you, he was a 4* guy.
This is from Skipper Sounds above:
"It's more than brothers. Bruce Smith sent his son back. Frank brought his son back, as a player and coach. Torrian came back. Cornell came back. Bud has never coached for anyone but Beamer. Vincent and Nina trusted us with all four of their sons. Every recruit that visits mentions the family feel."
Additionally, the previous poster was talking about having Alston Smith on the roster as proof of the "family environment". But, he neglected to mention that Smith only had offers from teams like W. Michigan, East Carolina, Hampton, and ODU. The kid simply wasn't good enough for almost all D1 schools, but he got an offer from Frank because he was Bruce Smith's son.
Lastly, how does having Shane Beamer on staff prove that VT values family? First, he was almost on the chopping block at USC-E because he's simply not a good coach. He talks a lot, and says a lot of douchey things, but he hasn't proven to be a good coach yet. So, he got a pay raise to come coach under his father, and this proves VT values family? It's no better than when Al Groh hired Mike Groh to be his OC. It was nepotism then, and is now with SB. Also, you have Cornell Brown and Torrian Gray on your staff... we have Marques Hagans, and Anthony Poindexter. What's your point? I'd venture a guess that most college football staffs have at least one former player who is now coaching at his alma mater? Let me guess, the Hokies invented this too? Of the 12 schools in the ACC this past year, only Maryland did not have an alum on the staff of their football team.
He had to go to prep to get fully qualified. He might not have had the requisite score on the standardized tests, nobody on this board knows. But, you can throw this out there all you want, because you don't have to have any facts to be on a message board.
Look, UNC is considered an elite school right? But they got Dwight Jones in school, and he couldn't get into CLEMSON??? Morgan Moses could have definitely gotten into VT, or FSU, or anyone else after his year at prep school, so don't bash a kid when you are completely in the wrong.
Is "almost on the chopping block" like being Mike London?
I have a very good friend that is a HUGE USC-E fan, alum, and E-Board geek like the rest of us. Shane being on any sort of negative list would be news to him.
It's easy to tell when the direction of an argument strikes a nerve with a fan base...they get very defensive. VT does do very well with legacy recruits. Sometimes you are simply better just passing on an argument rather than defending a point to view.
So, you're calling Alson Smith offer a "favor" from Beamer to Bruce? Wow! It's not like we're talking about Will Wahee here.
Will Wahee is on the 2 deep as a redshirt freshman, is Alston?
Doesn't take much to crack UVA's 2 deep. C'mon now.
