The Suicide rate among regular Americans is the same as

  • can't find the retired nfl suicide rates, but the average for that age group (35-44) is roughly 15 per 100000 (which is fairly close to all age groups).

also note, this is from 10 years ago, but only one i could find with age groups.

Note the relatively low suicide rate in the 5-14 range. But keep in mind that very young children can, and sometimes do, die by suicide.

Also note the significant increase in the suicide rate in the 75+ range. The elderly are particularly vulnerable to suicide, and it is up to us to be alert for warning signs, and to get immediate help for those in need.

  • I never realized i was posting on a board comprised of neurologists and psychologists.

The study of brain damage to long term football players has been going on for years. Jr will be another study and the publicity will bring the study to the forefront for a few days. There may never be a rock solid answer. Some players may be more susceptible to trauma than others.

As far as being depressed over leaving the game Jr was very involved in his community and charities and showed no outward signs of depression other than the two incidents.
