The Wire = GOAT IMO
Is there an appreciation thread where I can talk with people that know what the f*ck they're talking about? TIA.

Three W's In My Life: Ward, Weinke, and Winston
I stopped reading the thread at "dexter"
you say The Wire is redundant and retarded???
Here is a season of Dexter.
He goes to a crime scene and withholds evidence so that he can secretly find the killer himself.
He breaks into said killers house/apartment and discovers a "trophy" of some sort confirming that it is a serial killer.
A "good guy" suspects that Dexter is doing something wrong or is weird.
A "bad guy" is also stalking Dexter.
Deb says fu(k 1000 times.
Masuka makes dirty jokes and hits on girls.
Dexter contemplates his "dark passenger."
Dexter kills extra random criminals along the way to finally killing the main serial killer in the end.
Nailed it. Best part of Dexter was naked Rita
I love me some naked Rita!
That reporter chick that used to hook up with Quinn was pretty on point as well.
As you can I see I watch the show...it entertains me. But the storylines are redundant and the acting is weak for the most part. To even mention Dexter and The Wire in the same sentence is ridiculous. IMO Dexter is a step up from Sons of Anarchy...and a lot of that has to do with them being able to show tits and say "fu(k"
Dexter is one of my favorites too Billy. You are wrong about Sons of Anarchy though because it is great. I used to hate bikers too but now after the show I kind of like them. It is roughly based off of Hamlet and is one of the best shows ever. I would also recommend just getting HBO GO besides buying all these seasons. With HBO you can watch every episode of every tv series hbo has put out on you Xbox. I am on the final season of the Sopranos right now and love it. My favorite shows are The Sopranos, Dexter, Sons of Anarchy, Spartacus, The Walking Dead, and American Horror Story. I just read something a week ago where the Sopranos won for best writing ever for a tv series. I will try to find it and post it.

While I don't think it's that bad of a show, I agree with OP that it's far from the "GOAT" label that gets placed on it. Acting is sub par and the plot is just ok. The wife and I just finished season 1 and will continue to watch it but not overly impressed right now.
The first seasons of all of the following shows were WAY better (in no order):
Homeland (best show on television)
Game of Thrones
The Walking Dead
Ray Donovan (not even finished yet and still better)
House of Lies
The Good Wife
Sons of Anarchy
ALL better than The Wire

Oh look at that.... a nice little DV for my opinion... you people, sheesh
The only shows on that list that are in the conversation to better than The Wire are The Sopranos (my personal favorite), Breaking Bad, Game of Thrones and Homeland. I'll add Boardwalk Empire to the list. First season is slow but really picks up in season 2. Maybe Entourage although I wouldnt put a show in that genre over a drama any day.
Before I start my reviews let me say that with the exception of The Good Wife I have seen every episode of every show you listed.
Dexter - see my above posts
The Killing - Holder and Linden are great actors. Seasons 1 and 2 had too many plot twists just for the sake of having them. Every episode there was a new suspect. The ending was a let down as well. Season 3's storyline is played out and predictable. I still watch it every week and think it is a good show but not close to The Wire.
The Walking Dead - Acting is terrible. They try too hard to reach the mom audience when the emotional crap. Yes, I understand a zombie Apocalypse would involve some tears but they try to touch our hearts way too much. The first season was great, second season was terrible, third season was decent. At least they got them off the damn Farm. Rick hallucinating is pretty stupid. I'm sure that means the infection is getting to him.
Shameless - One of the best shows on TV. Excellent acting, even from the children. I just wouldnt put it up there with Sopranos, Breaking Bad, Homeland, and the Wire.
Ray Donovan - This show just started. How could you mention it with these other great shows??? First of all, they have too much shit going on. It almost feels like a USA show. Ray Donovan is a great character. Voight is a good acter and his character makes me feel uncomortable which means he is doing a good job. The supporting cast, however, sucks. The children are annoying. The wife sucks in every show she has been in. Of course a mick family from Boston would have a boxing gym. And of course one of the brothers is gonna be a badass that got hit too many times so he walks around shaking his arm. And of course the other brother is going to a slow, impressionable drug addict. The agent or whatever he is has a small role but he plays it well. The other jew lawyer or whatever is annoying.
Californication - One of my favorite shows but it has taken a Weeds-like downturn over the past 2 seasons. I almost stopped watching it during this past season when they did the airplane episode. Jesus I can't believe how bad they fu(ked that show up. Hank Moody will always be one the best characters ever, and his relationship with Karen is one of the best love affairs on Tv. She is great for the most part, as is Marcy. Charlie is funny but over the top.
House of Lies - Good show. Entertains me, but there is nothing really great about it other than Marty Con. I like where its going but I just dont see it in the top tier of tv shows.
Sons of Anarchy - Better than expected. I refused to watch it for a while because I already decided it would be terrible. But it wasnt. Subpar acting for the most part. I liked Gemma, Opie, Tig, and Jax to an extent although when he tries to get intense/anxious he over does it. The plot was exactly what I expected but they pulled it off...until they went to Ireland. That was the start of the downfall. Its like the writers sat around and said, "hmmm we need a change of scenery. Lets send these guys to Ireland to hang out with some Irish boozers. How are we gonna get them there? Yea lets kidnap a baby. Thats gold!"
Billy has lost all credibility from here on out to me, "He is Dead to Me"
The first two seasons are slow and set the plot for the entire series. The show gets really good in season 3z. Stick with it.
If you like Dexter more than the Wire. You dumb.
That is all.
If you want the ultimate, you've got to be willing to pay the ultimate price. It's not tragic to die doing what you love.
Homeland (best show on television) - Could make an argument
Dexter - No
Game of Thrones - Maybe
Breaking Bad - Maybe
The Killing - No
The Walking Dead - Heck No
The Sopranos - Maybe
Entourage - Hell no
Shameless - No
Ray Donovan (not even finished yet and still better) - What?
Californication - lol
House of Lies - Are you serious?
The Good Wife - No really are you serious?
Sons of Anarchy - No
Seasons 3 & 4>>>>>>
